Man, that young lady is simply amazing... can't wait for the conference and ncaa meets still coming up.

Followed your link, and I don't have any recent experience with these things, but it looked like it reads that she finished 7th out of 18 finishers - and 24 total that started the race. She was the only amateur? Saw Henes finished 5th, almost 9 seconds ahead of her...

Yea, she was the only amateur in the race. Got the USATF qualifying time, so she'll race that over the summer.

The 5000 collegiate record is a weird one. Jenny Simpson actually ran a 15:01 indoors (on an oversized track, so it doesn't count as an indoor record), so that's still faster than Tuohy, but Tuohy broke her outdoor record. That 15:01 just floats in the aether as illegal for indoor but also not outdoor. Additionally, there are a 14:55 by Lisa Koll and 15:00 by Jessica Hull, but they occurred out of season (I think the runners graduated and then hit those times shortly afterward).

I was there for the women's 1500 and 5k finals on Saturday. The stands (and areas around the track) were packed almost full on Saturday. It's only the 2nd ACC track and field championship I've been to, but I would say the crowd was pretty darn good.

Twelve female athletes and four male athletes are preparing to represent the Wolfpack in the 2023 NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida May 24-27.

A week after winning the individual ACC Championship in her first collegiate 10,000m, Katelyn Tuohy has declared for the 1500m and 5000m races at the East Regional. The NC State distance talent is in search of her second straight outdoor 5k National Championship.

Joining Tuohy in the 5000m will be Amaris Tyynismaa, who submitted a time of 15:53.07 at the 2023 ACC Outdoor Championships in Raleigh to win the individual conference title for the event.

Sam Bush, Kelsey Chmiel, Grace Hartman, Savannah Shaw, Jenna Schulz, and Allie Hays have also qualified for the 5k race. Chmiel earned First-Team All-ACC honors in the 5000m last weekend in Raleigh, while Hays received Second-Team.

The action doesn't stop there for Chmiel and Hays, as they both qualified for the 10,000m as well. Hays set the school record for the event at Raleigh Relays in March with a first place time of 32:21.13. Chmiel came fourth after clocking in at 32:55.19. The two will be joined in the 10k by Gionna Quarzo and Mariah Howlett, who are coming off First-Team and Second-Team All-ACC performances, respectively.

On the men's side of things, Gavin Gaynor has qualified to run in the 1500m. The graduate student is enjoying a successful 2023 campaign that saw him win the 1500m crown at Penn Relays with a time of 3:40.24. That time would stand as his personal best until he clocked in at 3:40.05 at the ACC Outdoor Championships last weekend during the event prelim to finish fifth.

The Pack then shifts from distance to sprints, as Ally Henson looks to build off of her Second-Team All-ACC time of 13.36 in the women's 110m hurdles.

Cam Murray will represent the Pack in the men's 110m hurdles. The Atlanta-native took home the individual ACC Championship for the event with a time of 13.46.

NC State will also have athletes competing in multiple field events. Jamar Davis will be taking part in the men's long jump and triple jump, while Jirah Sidberry will be the women's representative for the Pack in those events.

Sidberry's leaps will be her first since winning the ACC Championship in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.35m.

In the men's portion of the field events, Davis will be joined by Kyzaiah Stone, who is competing in the high jump. Davis (TJ) and Stone (HJ) are each coming into the regional with Second-Team All-ACC honors in their respective events.

So Katelyn is running a 1500 meter "final" at 5:15 PM and then a 5000 meter "final" at 8:10 PM on the same evening?!?

Will that actually happen that way?

Yea, probably.

There's always plenty of people who put in for two events and then just pick one at the last minute, but she'll probably go for the double.

OK. I have to ask the stupid question again.

Does Katelyn really run both of those on Saturday?
