NC State softball was unstoppable in the second day of action at the Wolfpack Classic as the Pack defeated Fairfield, 16-1 in five innings before tossing a combined no-hitter in the 9-0 five-inning win over Mount St. Mary's on Friday at Dail Softball Stadium.

The Wolfpack (8-1) looked to be in peak form as NC State scored 25 runs in only 10 innings while limiting both opponents to a combined one run and three hits.

FAIRFIELD RECAP
NC State only needed the first three innings to put up a season-high 16 runs to cruise past the Stags (1-3) in its opening game on Saturday.

Logan Morris started the scoring for the Pack as she drove in a run with a double to center field in the first inning. Later in the inning, Randi Farricker hit a three-run homer that left the stadium quickly over the left-field wall to give the Wolfpack an early 5-0 lead.

In the second inning, NC State added five more runs to its total, highlighted by a two-RBI double to right center field by Michele Tarpey. Taylor Ensley was able to record her second and third RBI of the game in the third inning with a double down the right field line to give the Pack a commanding 14-0 lead.

Maddy Schmeiser came up to the plate in the third and recorded her first career hit which was an RBI single through the right side of the infield to put NC State up 15-0. The Wolfpack's final run came in the third off a fielding error.

In the circle, Sam Gress improved to 3-0 after tossing 3.0 innings, giving up only two hits while striking out three batters. Farricker filled the stat sheet with a 2-for-3 day at the plate alongside three RBI and three runs scored while Morris and Sam Sack added perfect performances going 3-for-3 and 2-for-2, respectively with each of them scoring a pair of runs with an RBI.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S RECAP
The Wolfpack carried its momentum from the first game to its nightcap as Kaylee Lambrecht led off the game with a home run to left field. In the same inning, Morris hit a two-run bomb to centerfield to give NC State an early 3-0 lead.

With a 5-0 lead to begin the second inning, Lambrecht hit her second homer of the day, also to left field to increase NC State's lead to 6-0. In the third inning, Ensley hit her first career homer to add on to the lead. Carson Shaner drove home the final run of the game in the fourth inning with a RBI single.

Aisha Weixlmann (4-1) earned the start in the circle and was untouchable. In 4.0 innings pitched, the sophomore tossed nine strikeouts with no walks. Maddie McPherson came in to close the game in the fifth and struck out the side to complete the combined no hitter.

Weixlmann and McPherson's combined no-no was the first combined no-hitter since Kama Woodall and Brittany Nimmo achieved the feat on Feb. 24, 2018 in the 8-0 five-inning win over Wagner.

Brittany Jackson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Lambrecht added a two-homer performance with two RBI.

NC State softball split its games on Saturday as the Wolfpack defeated Central Connecticut State, 13-3 in five innings before falling to Delaware, 12-4 in the nightcap of the NC State Invitational at Dail Softball Stadium.

NC State (13-2) was able to knock off CCSU (0-7) in walk-off fashion but was unable to keep its hot bats against the Blue Hens (8-5) as Delaware snapped the Wolfpack's nine-game win streak.

CCSU RECAP
NC State hit five home runs against the Blue Devils to hold them at bay and earn the first win of the day.

Taylor Ensley led the way at the plate for the Pack as she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Taylor Johnson also had a perfect batting performance as she went 2-for-2 with two home runs, three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Aisha Weixlmann (5-1) continued her dominance in the circle as she earned her fifth win of the season after tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and only allowed one hit.

Sam Sack began the scoring outbreak with a two-run shot on a 3-0 count in the first inning. Carson Shaner stepped up to the plate right after Sack and hit a solo home run, her team-leading sixth of the season to make it a 3-0 ball game after one.

In the second inning, Johnson hit a no-doubt homer to left center field that scored Randi Farricker to increase NC State's lead to 5-0. In the ensuing inning, Johnson smashed her second homer of the game, a solo shot to center field.

The Blue Devils tacked on a run in the fourth off a sacrifice fly to right field before adding two more runs in the fifth from a two-run home run. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Alaina Smith hit an RBI-double to center field before Libby Whittaker hit a two-RBI single up the middle to give the Pack a 10-3 run.

With runners on first and second, Maddy Schmeiser stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off three-run home run to left center, her first homer of her career to allow NC State to run rule CCSU, 13-3.

DELAWARE RECAP
NC State could not find a consistent offensive rhythm and dropped its first home contest of the season to Delaware.

Kaylee Lambrecht, Logan Morris and Sam Sack all racked up two-hit performances with a run scored. Lambrecht added two RBI to her stat line while Morris and Sack each tallied one RBI. Maddie McPherson (3-1) suffered the loss in the circle with 3.1 innings pitched, giving up seven runs on five hits.

The Pack seemed like it kept its momentum from the first win as Morris began the game with a solo home run in the first inning. Delaware responded in the third with an RBI triple and a three-run home run to take a 4-1 lead it would not let up.

NC State tried to battle back as the Pack came within one as Lambrecht tallied an RBI-double in the third before Sack hit a leadoff home run in the fourth to trail the Blue Hens, 4-3. In the fifth through seventh inning, Delaware added eight runs to limit any hopes for NC State.

Lambrecht recorded NC State's final run with a home run to left field, her fourth of the season.

The Wolfpack (14-2) trailed the Blue Devils (0-9) in the first inning but responded with just enough runs in the middle innings to hold off any hopes of CCSU earning its first win of the season.

Michele Tarpey of NC State softball racked up four RBI to help the Wolfpack clinch the weekend series against Syracuse with a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium.

The Wolfpack (18-3, 2-1 ACC) answered a late rally from the Orange (10-6, 1-2 ACC) to earn its first ACC series win of the 2022 season.

Tarpey had a career day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a season-best 4 RBI with two doubles. Logan Morris followed behind with a 1-for-3 outing with a home run. Maddie McPherson went the distance in the circle to improve to 5-1 on the season. In 7.0 innings pitched, McPherson racked up four strikeouts with only walking one batter.

Syracuse scored first with a sacrifice fly in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Tarpey responded with an RBI-double to right center field to tie the game at one apiece. Once again, Tarpey hit a double to center field, this time clearing the bases to give the Pack a commanding 4-1 lead after three innings.

The Orange did not give up, as the team added three runs in the fifth off two singles to knot the game at 4-4. In the bottom half of the fifth, Morris stepped up to the plate and hit a solo homer to left field, her seventh of the season, to give the Wolfpack the 5-4 win.
