Despite the hourly outrage from CNN and our liberal friends here it appears President Trump was correct again when he called out DEI hiring practices just after the accident.
We're not going to wait for the actual investigation, it's just DEI? What about the tower being understaffed because someone was sick so that one ATC was handling landings and helicopter traffic? That plays no part I suppose.

Look, I'm no fan of DEI policies, but events like this are rarely boiled down to one single thing that lead to an accident. It's just incredibly short sighted to declare that DEI is the only reason this accident occurred because the real reforms that may be needed will be ignored.

According to the lawsuit the FAA is facing, they have turned away 1000 qualified applicants in favor of DEI.

Do you not think that those 1000 applicants could have filled in across the nation. Would having 1000 MORE applicants not help?!

Why is this so hard to understand?

why is it hard for you to understand that it's not the ONLY reason this accident occurred, and that the lessons learned from the other causes of this accident are most likely going to be more important than hiring practices.

I never said it was the only reason this accident happened. But would having 1000 MORE people, who the FAA turned away for DEI, be a bad thing?

Again you and Civ simply refuse to admit the democrats and their DEI policies have done tremendous damage to the FAA.
I nor you know what the staffing needs are for this particular tower nor do we know how people are scheduled for working at DCA. Let's figure that out and fix it before we decide that a policy is the issue. I think we'll find it was not as big as it's being made out to be

You just can't admit it.

Would having 1000 MORE qualified people (the FAA turned away) hurt or help staffing across the country? Give me an answer.

We know very well staffing for ATC positions are at an all time low. We have know this for at least the last four years if not longer. Maybe you have been on Mars during that time?

Now that I educated you to the under staffing across the FAA, do think 1000 MORE qualified employees (who were turned away) would be a bad thing?

I remember the day I showed up for work and Notices To Airmen (NOTAMS) had been changed to Notices To Air Missions. Same with "cockpit" to "flight deck". Instantly felt like there was a laser like focus on improving the safety and day to day operations of commercial aviation.

It doesn't. It shows where the priorities of the FAA have been recently. It was extremely sarcastic on my part.

Because we don't know what caused the accident.

Trump literally started spouting off about DEI when search and rescue/recovery operations were still underway. It was grossly inappropriate. There will be a time to research causes and lay blame, and that time ain't when bodies are still being recovered from the Potomac.

Why is this so hard to understand?

BS! You hide behind that because you KNOW the democrats have really effed up pushing woke/DEI.

Let me ask. Would it hurt to have the 1000 applicants (that were turned away) now working for the FAA? Would that be a bad thing?

There's nothing to hide behind. I don't know what caused the accident, do you? Does Trump?

Trump had four years to staff up the FAA/ATC's from 2016 to 2020. What action did he/Congress take in those four years? Did any changes they did make improve staffing at the FAA/ATC?

Do you know what the biographical assessment was intended to measure? Here's the description I've seen:

Quote:

The FAA's biographical assessment was a screening tool used to assess applicants' behaviors and experiences. The test involved multiple-choice questions on topics such as decision-making, handling pressure, and risk management.

Decision-making, handling pressure, and risk management seem like great things to screen for in one of the most stressful jobs in the country, no?

Regardless, my understanding is that the biographical assessment was deleted in 2018. Has the FAA still struggled to attract and hire enough quality candidates in the six years since? If so, why?

Thousands of highly qualified applicants that make near-perfect grades and standardized test scores are turned away from Duke, Harvard, Stanford, etc. every single year. Does that mean that the applicants they do accept are unfit? Obviously not.

These are all relevant to this conversation.

The bottom line is there is nothing wrong with this administration analyzing and changing policy as they see fit, including DEI. It's why they were elected and frankly some of it needs to change.

That can be true, and so can the reality that blaming Obama, Biden, the Dems, and DEI for a crash that literally happened hours before; for which there had been no investigation; and when bodies were still being pulled from the river is profoundly lacking in tact, empathy, and leadership.

Explore the **** out of DEI's impact on this accident, hiring practices, etc. But when families are still being notified that their loved ones have been tragically killed, if you're the President, do them the favor of engaging compassionately, going to the crash site, and generally just being a decent human being instead of rambling on about DEI and questioning where he'd even go if he went to the site ("What am I going to do, go swimming?") like Trump did.

Wish I could say it was mind boggling that people are arguing that staffing issues for ATC haven't been an issue for FAA for years, but considering who is making these arguments it's really no surprise. Pitiful.

You're crazy. So you think that DCA would be fully staffed with ATCs if only they'd been willing to hire white people? That's why you think they have been chronically understaffed for ages? Somehow DEI is responsible for our new army of mentally incompetent ATCs and the fact the 5 ATCs are always doing the job of 8?

I think we'll find it was not as big as it's being made out to be
I heard that the target ATC staffing level for DCA is 30 and current staffing is 19. No idea how accurate that is.

Call me crazy but I'm starting to think the 1000+ qualified applicants who were turned away in favor of DEI hiring policies could be helpful here?

You're crazy. So you think that DCA would be fully staffed with ATCs if only they'd been willing to hire white people? That's why you think they have been chronically understaffed for ages? Somehow DEI is responsible for our new army of mentally incompetent ATCs and the fact the 5 ATCs are always doing the job of 8?

Jesus you guys are easy marks.

Not fully staffed but to think 1000+ qualified applicants, who were turned away so democrats could check boxes, would not be of any help is dumb…even for you.
If you want to ague that there shouldn't be a "race" component to hiring that's totally fine. But you're making the leap that the people they brought in were obviously less qualified. You sure about that? Or is that more "they're eating the pets!" crap that you guys gobble up. The ATC union doesn't seem to think any of their ATCs are unqualified.

And if a STAFFING SHORTAGE is what it causing the problems, what does DEI even have to do with that, exactly?

I just did. Maybe, maybe not. I have no idea what hiring needs are for the FAA and neither do you.

What is the staffing issue, exactly, that you've seen for the last 20 years? That there are too few ATCs? Or that "DEI" has been filling the ATC ranks with people who don't know what they're doing?

One of the members of the National Transportation Safety Board has said that the American Airlines jet had a slight chance of pitch right before impact. So maybe one of the warning systems on the jet had the pilots trying to correct. Impact happened between 300-350 feet of altitude.

appreciate the information, again before DEI practices were implemented. Seems to be a systemic issue within the FAA. And that should be considered as a concern to be addressed as part of this investigation.

Increasingly, this looks less like an FAA issue and more of an Army one…but DEI is still the common denominator. Looks like the pilot was a White House aide just a few short weeks ago. If this was a training/recert flight from out of Fort Belvoir as some reports are suggesting, going north into the metro air space seems insane.

No, she was not an aide. She was a social aide. That's a big difference because it's a big nothing burger. You have to be a soldier serving in DC to do the job, it's not full time, and a lot of soldiers do it.

A White House social aide is a commissioned officer in the United States Armed Forces who helps guests at the White House. They are responsible for the personal needs of visiting dignitaries and help facilitate interactions with the President and First Lady.

Responsibilities:

Assisting the Social Secretary
Representing the President and First Lady
Ensuring events are conducted efficiently and with dignity
Assisting with diplomatic protocol at state events
Assisting with annual meetings with Congress and the federal judiciary

Selection process:

Applicants must be commissioned officers with a rank no higher than major
Applicants must be assigned to Washington, D.C.
Applicants must pass a Yankee White review to demonstrate their loyalty to the United States
Applicants must undergo a rigorous background check

Commitment:

White House social aides are volunteers who serve an average of five to six events a month
Social aides also have a full-time job

I nor you know what the staffing needs are for this particular tower nor do we know how people are scheduled for working at DCA. Let's figure that out and fix it before we decide that a policy is the issue. I think we'll find it was not as big as it's being made out to be
I heard that the target ATC staffing level for DCA is 30 and current staffing is 19.

I'm sure the people they brought in are capable of doing that job. My point is that the FAA turned away 1000+ qualified people so the democrats could check boxes.

FAA embroiled in lawsuit alleging it turned away 1,000 applicants based on race that contributed to staffing woes

I understand that. The Army messed this up. Maybe with another set of eyes ATC might have saw it.

I'm not offended, I fail to see how this accident would be prevented if she like dudes. By all accounts she was highly qualified to do the job. That and Werewolf has zero proof of this woman's sexual history and therefore shouldn't comment on it as fact because he read it on the internet.

If a white heterosexual guy was the pilot I would feel the same way with the record that has been presented so far
