The latter is preferable to acceding to extortion. And these outrageous and harmful add-ons to the existing CR amount to extortion if no one wants a shutdown.
well you guys are going to get what you want.
Polymarket says you're probably right, though it's not what I want. It's just that the alternative I want even less and I say that even as I'll be layed off should the shutdown proceed.

So, are you saying you would take a more hard line that the so-called Populist Republicans? That appears to be what this post is saying. If so, then names listed, in your previous post, should be commended…

Looks like Johnson needs to make the CR a one-page document and he can get full Republican support. Send it over to Schumer and let him shut the damn thing down! It's time for Johnson to grow a pair!
I think it'd be hilarious for the government to be shut down during Trump's inauguration.

Oh well, a permanently shut down government is what people voted for whether they realize it or not, so go for it! Republicans will rightly get 100% of the blame and the upcoming midterm election will be a lot of fun.

Shutting down the government may be what people want. That is the people that voted for Trump. I know I do! Put a 100% clear CR, on the table and let chips fall where they may. If it doesn't pass, well, we don't have many days until Trump takes office. Also, we have less days until both houses are in control by Republicans.

Between now and then, not a lot is going on. So, shut it down, like it really is anyway. Starting on January 20th, 100% of the workforce start coming back in the office, or shut those that don't…. Well, shut them down!!

The private sector doesn't work this way. Why some thinks it's ok for the Federal Government to work this way, show thier stupidity.

A lot of variables at play here. Both sides are posturing for their "wants and needs." If Trump's election means that Congressional spending will be subject to more intense scrutiny and all of these "riders" being attached to the bill are finally being red flagged - then that is a win for everyone. All departments of our government especially at the federal level have become subject to boondoggling. Cages have to be rattled. The majority of Americans I believe welcome this attempt at accountability. For the sake of all that is just, fair and common sense our government at all three levels needs to be cleansed and start fresh. It will never be perfect, but it can certainly be better. Hopefully this is the beginning. If our democracy is to be saved, statesmen and stateswomen need to become just that again: workers for the people and not in it for themselves or their financial backers. Time will tell.

The WSJ is basically lipstick on a right wing turd, so no, no thoughts on the article. I just hope Biden pardons about a thousand more people so you'll have one more thing to bawl about before he shoves off.

Anyway, please move the "But But Something Biden" stuff to the Biden thread... this is the Clown Car thread.

Fellas; let's get to the bottom of this thing and see what's real and what's not. Of course, we likely disagree on GW Bush too. Of course, 20 years ago I thought GW Bush did a good job too.

"But Chip Roy is just a fiscally conservative Republican!"

-Supported Liz Cheney
-Supported George Floyd
-Thought Trump should be impeached
-Supported Pence on J6
-Worked for John Cornyn
-Wanted Ken Paxton impeached and removed from AG
-Certified election fraud in 2020
-Anti-Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024

I have no doubt you believe all of that, but man, what a fantasy world you're living in.

All that this budget episode accomplished was to strip out funding for childhood cancer, lower prescription drug costs, and a few similar things, and set things up for a billionaire tax cut next year. In other words, the deficit will be going way up in 2025, not down. It just won't be for anything that helps you personally.

You fantasize about statesmen serving the people, but then elected Team Billionaire. So good luck with that. They're here to usher in a new era of government of the billionaires, quite literally by the billionaires and really obviously for the billionaires. At least it's refreshing that they've finally stepped out of the shadows and are being brazen about it.

You got to start somewhere. Sure, there will be cuts that will hurt some but that is the unfortunate reality of the situation. The excessive spending of frivolous pork barrel projects from both parties has to stop especially these projects going to other countries. I don't care if it was a Democrat or Republican who initiated it, but something has to be done differently. Yes, I am a realist but I also believe that there is still some good left in people. Merry Christmas!
