I guess we disagree on the term "attacking". In my opinion President Trump is telling the Pope to stay out of it.

Another thing. You ever notice Trump "attacks". The Pope "comments". Why is that?
the Pope isn't a political figure, nor is he a political opponent. Therefore the verbs are correct.

I don't like the way he has his phrased some of his comments regarding the US but his general message is about peace. It's not a political message. He's not advocating for Iran to have nuclear weapons.

It became a political message when Donald Trump took it as a personal insult. That the Pope can't control

And you're projecting how Republicans do business. Some folks knew Swalwell was a player, but he'd never been accused of anything. When he actually was, it was over. Meanwhile a Republican congressmen had been accused of the same crap for a year and Speaker Johnson swept it under the rug to not lose a seat... until Swalwell resigned, at which point the Republican quickly resigned, too. Politics above all.
