Why would we not stand with a Western ally and democratic nation under threat? What message would abandoning Ukraine send to China, Iran, and North Korea?

The US and the West's efforts to date have already signficantly reduced Russia's ability to project power. Ukraine doesn't need to win the war, they just need to continue fighting Russia to nominally better than a stalemate, and they're absolutely doing that. Russia has been in an economically and militarily compromised position for years and barring an incredibly stupid and shortsighted abandonment of Ukraine by the West, Russia's position will continue to weaken over time.

Now, if only there was something we could do from afar, with our Western allies, to apply significant economic pressure on Russia...


So just keep doing what we're doing and the war goes on forever? No thanks. Are you willing to send your kids (troops) over there and end this? Yes or no?

one issue it seems that has been found is the 4 week delay in secondary sanctions for oil and gas. I don't think that's a good thing, but I'd like to understand the reasoning behind it. Because it's allowing China in particular to stock up on Russian gas.

But if you want to be a historian, it was Newt Gingrich in the 1990s who innovated the strategy of crapping on norms to get ahead, the beginning of the end of bipartisanship, and it's been a downward slide ever since. The issue with the White House demo is as it almost always is with Trump - rules and norms and perceptions don't apply.
