They literally have nothing else to outrage over. Geezus, this is hilarious.

That explains why only 23% of ALL Americans approve of the East Wing demolition. Even only 44% of Republicans approve... I guess the rest have ballroom construction derangement syndrome, too. Must be highly contagious.

Lol, I'd bet not even 23% of Americans know about it. Only ******s like you cry about it. Love your stupid Axios "poll" that you think says "23% of ALL Americans" though. I'm also CERTAIN it's totally accurate and not your standard far left propaganda. "LOLOLOL"

cool. Now show me the poll where Americans approved of a pride celebration at the White House where the trans fella exposed his breasts?

Guess what? A lot of stuff happens at the White House where 50% of the population doesn't agree with it.

Wow, the epidemic of OMG MORTGAGE FRAUD by all of Trump's enemies keeps spreading! You'd almost think Trump's toady Bill Pulte, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, has been abusing his position to conjure up these comical allegations against everyone.

Guess what? A lot of stuff happens at the White House where 50% of the population doesn't agree with it.

The problem with the analogy, as is so frequently the case on here, is you're comparing Presidential conduct to a rando. Compare Trump to his predecessors in office.

Biden or Obama or Bush or any other President would have been skull-drug for lying about tearing down half the White House, circumventing conventional approvals, collecting anonymous "donor" bribes, and then tearing it down anyway to make room for a "privately funded" monstrosity. The right-wing media ecosystem imploded when Obama wore a tan suit that one time. Imagine if he did what Trump did.

But, there are probably 15 or 20 things we could all identify that are more important to talk about today than the East Wing, which of course is the theme of the Trump presidency. It never matters that he burns the food, because there are four other skillets on the stove that are always on fire.

yeah, right now it's still not a big deal. If the donors get a quid pro quo out of it in the future than it will be a big deal and rightly so, but there is zero evidence of that occurring.

So, who cares if the East Wing was torn down to make a better use of the space.

Being in the industry and knowing that the whole project would have been very hush-hush, can you imagine being on staff for the site planner that undertook the work, when the schematic site plan gets thrown up on the screen the first time during the project kickoff meet and the project lead says to his team by way of explanation "We're gonna tear down the East Wing and build a ballroom bigger than the West Wing"

To be a fly on the wall and see all the "Holy Sheet" looks around the table would have been something.

A quid pro quo would probably be impossible to prove, but almost all of the donors on the list have major contracts with the government and/or huge exposure to tariffs. You don't think Trump is the kind of guy that would reward them?

Lol, you're a hoot.

The issue with the White House demo is as it almost always is with Trump - rules and norms and perceptions don't apply.

Every other President before him would have been castrated by the media not just for doing this but all the grifting and lying that led up to it - the "privately funded" ballroom that's really just an accumulation of bribes from anonymous donors and corporations; saying he's not going to touch the East Wing and then just demolishing the whole thing; skipping regulatory and Congressional steps that are normally required or abided by; not paying a bit of attention to scale or cohesiveness in the design and decking it out in gold because he's his typical self-aggrandizing, trashy, and gaudy self...

It's hilarious that him taking bribes to fund unilaterally demolishing half of the White House is considered "not a big deal" for his presidency by some.

What's telling is that relatively speaking, they're absolutely right. He's so constantly flooding the zone with malfeasance and bull**** that it actually doesn't rate.

Smapty, do any of the people, that sit squarely on your side, anything wrong? Do the people you stated above actually exist?

Can you honestly not think about it for five seconds? You seriously think illegal aliens are out protesting, begging ICE to snatch them up? You think the No Kings protest was packed with violent criminals, when there were ZERO arrests in NYC, and over the 5 to 7 million protestors nationwide only like a dozen arrests total?

You don't think it's infinitely more likely that MAGA was just flooding the zone with bullsh** in order to discredit a massive (and peaceful) nationwide protest?

It's the East Wing. That was built in 1942. It's not historically significant. Honestly, it's a good idea to have a larger facility for the President to host.

At this point, the norms and traditions are out the window and have been out the window since 2008. It'll just continue to escalate now because neither party has control of their flank lunatics.

I guess you're also confused why they don't build skyscrapers all over DC? It's a scale issue. You can build a "bigger" ballroom without building a f'ing arena twice the size of the White House right next to it. And the Jefferson Colonnade that they're planning to trash as well is actually historically significant.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder that non-MAGA Republicans also live in their own fantasy world where every increasingly insane/corrupt/anti-American thing that Republicans do can be brushed off with a "both sides". Obviously Trump's glorious autocratic takeover (that has Werewolf jerking himself into a coma) is all Obama's fault.

meh, Jefferson can pound sand, he built that ugly campus in Charlottesville. Besides, there's dozens of other things to be mad at. Like a government shutdown caused by the Democrats.

Yes, we started the road we are on in 2008. Every President since then deserves blame for this current fever dream of populism.

There are always dozens of things to be mad about with Trump, that's kinda his thing... flood the zone with constant sewage in order to get away with constant criming.

Lol, if you think Obama and Trump are even in the same universe then you've definitely been getting high with Tucker Carlson or something. But if you want to be a historian, it was Newt Gingrich in the 1990s who innovated the strategy of crapping on norms to get ahead, the beginning of the end of bipartisanship, and it's been a downward slide ever since. The Tea Party and MAGA are direct descendants of his "revolution".

Of course Trump has taken that trend and launched it out of the solar system, but this isn't just him. The Heritage Foundation think tanked an entire playbook (yes, Project 2025) to abuse every norm left in the country and burn our two-party system to the ground. I know you guys pretended Project 2025 wasn't real during the election, but you were wrong (or just lying). And we're right on schedule!

I absolutely knew Project 2025 was real, and I've said repeatedly it's being enacted as we speak. That's good!

Now, go read it and let's debate just one section of it. Will you do it? Come on Smapty, will you read Project 2025 and allow for the two of us (that's right, just you and I debate the merits of just one section) to debate it?

This is more misleading, bad-faith partial information that y'all are thirstily drinking down.

Obama didn't decorate the White House to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

He updated a tennis court so he could play basketball on it, and had a few million dollars in aesthetic updgrades.

The rest of the projects were allocated before he arrived and/or major structural/electrical/mechanical/telecommunications/remediation work that was decades overdue.

Again, the objections here are the lying/grifting/bribing/scale/regulatory circumvention issues. Obama didn't do any of that. No past president did either.

MSM: Obama "renovates" White House…
Smapty cheers!

Also MSM: Trump "demolishes" White House…Smapty weeps.

Translation: Obama good, Trump bad…got it.

Hokie, what are you implying in the bolded comment?

2008 was the year we as an electorate decided we no longer preferred functional government
