The NSA likely has anything of substance that the rogue elements are attempting to scrub. This could be optics. I trust Trump. It's bigger and more compllex than meets they eye.

After Trump and Vance's deranged rant in the Oval Office yesterday, here's the scorecard for who has publicly expressed support for Ukraine versus publicly expressed support for Trump:

Maybe we should come up with a name for our new global alliance. "Russia & Two Friends" probably makes the most sense.

We could have achieved whatever the desired diplomatic outcome was yesterday without leading Zelensky into a made for TV media trap and berating and condescending to him about thankfulness and his wardrobe.

The affect and demeanor and presentation was colossally unprofessional and inappropriate.

The glib and smarmy question about his clothes, from a reporter that hasn't dealt with anything 1% of the difficulty of what Ukraine's leaders are dealing with, in the midst of Ukraine fighting for their land and sovereignty, was not the most important but it was definitely the grossest given the power dynamic and his reliance on the US and others for literal and geopolitical survival.

Zero surprise at this point but Trump turning everything into a circus does not benefit America or anyone else except Russia and China.

Nah. In MAGA country, the main important country is America. Unlike you mentally ill cucks, insulting/threatening our country, our president, and vice president in the Oval Office in front of cameras is completely unacceptable. It's no surprise you and civ support Z. You are enemies of the state. Historians will document the mentally ill poorly.

Then all these guys should step up and keep funding a war that's simply not winnable. I think the American people are tired of wasting billions on endless conflicts.

To be clear, civ wants to continue giving billions of dollars and letting millions of people die by supporting a leader that was led into a "made for TV media trap and berating and condescending to him about thankfulness and his wardrobe."

Lol. Dems are not serious people.

What a straw man.

Why not try to achieve precisely the same diplomatic outcome you want by, you know, being diplomatic and professional?

Instead, now the world's focus is on the tone and presentation of the summit instead of the content.

This is really no different than basically every other issue of consequence while Trump has been president. The rhetoric and tone and presentation becomes the story instead of the actual meat on the bone.

Even Lindsay Graham called out these European leaders on X this morning. He told them to be his guest and defend Ukraine from Putin and told them it was about time they defended their own continent. When you lose a pathetic warmonger like Graham you know you fkd up.

Although this is also Graham pivoting and taking a strong stand on an issue to save him from a primary challenge. He's done it before on abortion and Kavanaugh. Hopefully it doesn't work this time.

Are you completely forgetting Zelensky walked into this meeting on the heels of Trump inexplicably calling him a dictator and blatantly lying and saying Ukraine started the war?

Understanding the tone that had already been set in the days immediately preceding the meeting, by Trump and Trump alone, layered against the reality of everything at stake for Ukraine, Zelensky's demeanor in the meeting was contextual and understandable.

I do not condone Trump saying those things and he was wrong. According to Rubio, Zelenskyy insisted on going to the White House to meet regarding the deal so if he were that bothered by those things he should've never come. The agreement could've been signed several days ago but he insisted on going to meet with Trump and it's pretty clear what his intentions were.

Life's not that simple. The future of Ukraine is in the hands of its allies so not meeting wasn't an option.

He had to meet, but there's no way to not be a little raw from being called a dictator and having been told in the international press that the guy you're meeting with said your country actually started the war that's devastated your country over the last several years. Especially when it was your country that got attacked, and especially when the guy you're meeting with seems eager to ingratiate himself with the leader of your attacker, who himself looks and smells much more like an actual dictator than you do.

Speaking of Rubio, just let him run the show. He actually conducts himself with the requisite professionalism befitting the stakes and visibility of these talks and seems more interested in resolution than inflammation and grandstanding.

Your reasoning/justification for Z's behavior is like a little girl in middle school. You are remarkably immature. There is no justification for his behavior the last 10 minutes. It's clear you have never held a leadership position. Or hell, even a sales position.

Truly crazy how mentally ill you are now. You used to actually try to feign objectivity when you were lying about your political affiliation.

It was all about Trump wanting to end the war which starts with a cease fire that Zelensky said he does not want to do.

Nothing is being compensated at this time just agree to wanting a cease fire.

The whole world knows that the USA has to be part of any positive outcome for Zelensky.

Sign a cease fire agreement, don't say that it will not work to the country that is keeping your country a country.

Very simple!!

Here's an idea:

Instead of calling Zelensky a dictator and saying Ukraine started the war and taking a completely and unnecessarily adversarial and paternal stance with an ally for no good reason, do the following:

1) meet with our European allies behind closed doors
2) explain that we have a desire for continued solidarity with Europe on Ukraine, and also for Ukrainian sovereignty
3) explain that we also can't fund a forever war and need to start setting the wheels in motion for an end to hostilities in Ukraine
4) outline the time over which our financial support of Ukraine will taper down and ultimately end
5) look to our European friends and allies for input regarding whether they intend for their financial support to step up commensurately and continue funding an ongoing war that we will ultimately not financially support, or whether they too are aligned with us regarding the need to end the conflict at some finite point in the future
6) after getting aligned with them, meet with Zelensky as a group to explain the same and determine what he views as realistic and achievable compromises given the totality of circumstances and the diminution of US and European support for his war moving forward
7) meet with Putin and tell him that we have met with our European allies and together have the resolve to outlast Russia's ability to fund and support Ukraine's ability to fight this war
8) explain further that it is in Russia and Ukraine's best interest to end the war by coming to reasonable compromises about the issues at hand, including maintaining Ukraine's sovereignty and providing it protection, and also ceding some land to Russia perhaps even with some economic incentives for Russia to agree and behave moving forward

This type of approach keeps us aligned with our allies; respects and supports Ukraine's sovereignty; works towards ending our financial support of Ukraine's war effort; works towards ending the mutual destruction of Ukraine and Russia and their soldiers and civilians living in and near the war zone; and allows Russia to save some face without making it seem like Trump is Putin's toe-sucker.

Obviously, the specifics of any strategy may vary, but there is no upside to this process being such a circus and so belligerent with allies.
