USAID is looking like an enormous can of worms. Maybe Elon will talk about it tonight on his DOGE briefing at 12am. I'll be in bed, but will be interested to see what is discussed tomorrow morning.

#SIeve & #Gobbler, I know you want the echo chamber to go away. It's those MAGA people that dominate the conversation, blah, blah, blah.

Do you boys know what a "target rich environment" is? Look it up. Gonna be like center console fishing for MAGA on a school of red snapper.......LOL Just find a spot on the boat and start pulling em' in. You'll continue eating crow, fellas.

#Gobbler, allow me to put the red snapper analogy into context for you.

It's kinda like being on a bluegill bed for us #MAGA types. You can relate, I'm sure. :-)

Market is currently crashing. Russell 2000 -3.41% alone. Yikes.

We're about to see real pain

Left or Right. Nobody wants to see this. If you do then you're just sour at society in general

Tarrifs were a real stupid idea. What an idiot. I thought he was just going to play hardball. Oh well.

It's been a long time coming, the threat of tariffs is at most a trigger…and any black swan event was due to take it down anyway. I'm not saying it to defend Trump but investors ought to appreciate just how severely overbought and over-valued these indices are. In fact, higher bond yields starting from several months ago have to be considered at least a co-trigger for an equity bloodbath. And for that, you can blame Congress, party control not withstanding, for unconstrained, runaway spending. Accruing more debt from spending while struggling to make payments on existing debt was never going to end well. Got gold, silver, and platinum?

Been in the works for eons and was stalled to dump on Trump. The Trump team is wise to allow the inevitable to go down in 1st few days as opposed to fighting it.

Oh, I thought this was just about Fentanyl. It's nice that Trump at least acknowledged that prices are going to go up. Also, remember that celebrated United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from his first term? Well Trump just violated that agreement.

All this winning for China and we get to pay for it too! But hey, what's a little bit of pain as long as we piss of our allies while rewarding our enemies, and we get to shoot our foot off too? Win win!!

Gobbler, allow me to provide some context.

I don't have an issue with auditing USAID, and I think it's a good idea to fold it into the State Department. However, I don't think the program should be stopped, because of the concern about Russia and China, which is what Elon Musk is promoting. That, is where I think the bad idea is at.

To some extent, I agree. Biden handled the Ukraine war badly, and Trump won't do any better and possibly worse. And that might be the only situation where one could possibly do worse than Biden.

Because of the corruption in the South American governments is rampant therefore very little aid actually gets to the people in those countries. You really need to get out more and experience more.

You do realize it's not the other countries causing this it's greed of corporations, who were side by side with Trump at the inauguration.

The Biggest Companies Donating to Trump and Harris' 2024 Campaigns

That indirect access to corporate wealth has helped former President Donald Trump raise nearly $382 million for his candidacy. Vice President Kamala Harris has raked in more than $1 billion since entering the race just three months ago,

Nothing says "this thing is trending in the right direction" like drawing fawning praise from genocidal oligarchs.

Putin says Europe will 'stand at the feet of the master' as Trump's tariffs alarm allies

What in the world would Reagan have to say about this?

Oh wait, he already said it.

The following is what I'm rooting for:

Trade balances
Drug smuggling to stop
34T debt - figure out a way to slow, then stop adding to it
1.7T yearly deficit - balance it and ultimately get a surplus
Sound dollar

The following is what I don't care about:

Stock Market (its over-valued)
Investment bankers (they've gotten filthy rich from 0% interest rates - easy money)

So, Lets just see how this really affects people as it matures...

There don't seem to be many economists or people in industry that think tariffs are the way to achieve any of these things but I like your list as aspirational goals. We should all agree that these would be beneficial outcomes for the US.

What about inflation?

The price of eggs and gas was all we heard about in here for months leading up to the election.

What about the housing crisis?

Housing unaffordablity was a huge problem before actions that will undoubtedly make houses even more expensive to build and more expensive to finance.

What about humanitarian objectives for impoverished nations? What's our responsibility and ability to bring the weight of the biggest economy in the world to bear on issues like famine, disease control, and economic opportunity for developing nations? Beyond ethical considerations, what are the national security benefits of doing so?

What about our obligations to our allies and trade partners, including those obligations made by Trump during his first term? Should we not honor those and pursue win-win outcomes?

What about the constitutionality of fake government officials with insufficient security credentials vastly overstepping their authority to monitor and influence Treasury policy intrude on and shape federal offices?

This devil-may-care attitude the administration is taking with multiple issues of key domestic and global importance is completely unnecessary and counterproductive, at best.
