I think independents watched and thought that the interviewers immediately tried attacking him and tried for the gotcha. I think it was an adversarial interview initiated by the interviewers. I think his response about black or Indian is hilarious in hindsight because of how hyperventilated the left has gotten about it since. It accentuates how that's pretty much all you have to run on.
