My perception has been that tarrifs are bad and will cause inflation and "be damned" the people that would receive these jobs.

I still think tariffs are stupid and taxes, but yes, if we didn't declare every tariff a national security issue, and Congress did their job instead of tariffs being raised and lowered and initiated daily, I wouldn't like it but I'd except it.
