No, I believe in due process. If they get their day in court and deemed a terrorist threat, then you can deport them. So, I would like for us to follow the law.

You want 20 million ILLEGALS to get "a day in court" ?!

You want to ignore the Fifth and Fourteenth?!

Yes. Yes I do. They are ILLEGALS. Why is that so hard to understand?

Why are you asking me?

You're the one having a terrible time understanding the Constitution.

The legal precedents for the Fifth and Fourteenth applying to all persons, not just all citizens, are well-established and clear.

And obviously due process is vital to avoid the exact circumstance we're in now, which is where the wrong people get put on planes.
We've reached a point in time when the folly of the Warren and Burger courts is recognized for the insanity of their rulings and it's time to go back to Constitutional original intent for the good of the Republic.
I don't know if your comment relates to due process and equal protection being applicable to all people in the US jurisdiction but if so, that precedent predates Warren and Burger courts by nearly a century.

And I'd argue that such precedent has as much validity as that of the Dred Scott decision, and should be set aside.

Isle, I know who Reich is (I called him a leftest above); however, his numbers are close, in not actual, fact. That is the problem we have in this country. To much easy and new money has gone to the wealthy that's killed the middle class.

So, yes, I agree that Reich is a hack; however, let's discuss the data…

Hey, I've read the constitution and studied the damn thing probably more than anyone here. Hell, I keep one in my car (crazy huh?).

Now, I still think there is enough ambiguity and/or interpretation that doesn't make this conclusive. Yes, I think those people could call for a habeas petition and get a hearing; however, I'm not 100% convinced that what was done is illegal, yet!

Now, I was reading this article from my favorite site, on this subject in the constitution…. This does support the illegality of the actions, by the Trump admin.

Go read the article I posted above, or you get it here.

https://tenthamendmentcenter.com/2017/07/25/the-full-scope-of-the-fifth-amendments-due-process-clause/

We definitely are in an area that presents some clarity issues. Additional reading that supports Trump is here:

https://www.nafsa.org/regulatory-information/alien-enemies-act-1798

BTW, the Trump admin is using the reasoning, in the above article to support their actions. Now, for anybody that's stating definitive opinions are really espousing their thoughts, nothing more.

The stock market is a proxy for expected future economic productivity. It's the best early signal for how proposed policies will affect the economy long term. It's not a perfect measure but it reflects the sentiment of investors and business.

Denying the stock market matters has long been a talking point on the left. Trump was literally campaigning on how the stock market would be so much better under him right up until election day. He embraced it as a perfect measure right until the narrative changed.

So basically you want to set aside all precedent, new and old alike, which goes against the very foundations of our legal/judicial system, for what reason exactly?

ETA: And the irony is rich that you want to set aside well-supported precedents due to their antiquity to clear the way for the administration to use a very questionably applicable Act from 1798.

I'm minimally in the stock market. I haven't cared about the market in 25 years. None of it makes any sense, to me. Too much fluctuation and the idea of shorting the market keeps me out.

Now, your post was an attempt at educating me; rather, you didn't comment on the data in Reich's post. I'm starting to see data, other than Reich's that supports his sentiment. In fact, if you listen to Trump, outside of the normal media talking points, his whole premise is based on this wealth gap.

The question is: how did we get here?

Yes! I had this debate with a NC Supreme Court Justice. Nothing says that a court has ruled correctly. They typically rule based on their world view of the law and constitution. Every ruling should be open to new interpretations. Example: Roe V Wade.

If you disagree, just go read the dissents on any ruling.

Roe v. Wade was long held up as a legally tenuous ruling and fell quickly by American judicial standards as a result (that, in concert with an unprecedently conservative court).

The applicablity of the Fifth and Fourteenth and due process and equal protection towards all people has enjoyed no such questioning or scrutiny and has been affirmed many times over the last 150 years.

Cary how dare you buy more than you need. The Trump administration wants you to do with less. They want to dictate what you do as a consumer.

Remember when that top down from the federal government nanny state stuff was rightly frowned upon in these very forums during the last administration? They shouldn't dictate washing machine performance, eliminate natural gas stoves and water heaters, shower flows, dictating from the top how people should spend their money. Now that the Trump administration is doing the same thing and we're all fired up about it.

But it's really funny to see y'all parroting leftist drivel and pretending to be conservatives

So what are the stated goals so far by the Trump admin for these tariffs?
  • Bring iPhone or whatever manufacturing to America, TO BE BUILT BY ROBOTS (or probably illegals). No new jobs, but anything you buy will now be more expensive, though, thanks to more expensive inputs.
  • Lower the trade deficit, a scary sounding "deficit" word. Of course lowering the trade deficit weakens the dollar, and is like asking a bank to stop charging you low interest rates so that you won't have as much money to spend on stuff. The reason you have 10 TVs and some schmuck in another country doesn't.
  • Provide revenue for tax cuts that PRIMARILY BENEFIT THE WEALTHY, with tariffs that PRIMARILY HARM THE MIDDLE CLASS.
So which one of these goals improves the situation you've identified for the middle class? Could it be that the problem is that you keep falling for the same scam over and over and over and over and over?

Smapty, I agree and stated so in a previous post... What is the ultimate goal? I don't think it's clear at all.

Pharma, in my opinion, should be brought back to the Western Hemisphere for manufacturing. That said, I don;t really have clarity on US manufacturing. Now, regarding my 10 TV's, well... I'm in a different tax class than most, so, I can.

You agree that all of the stated goals so far would make things worse for the middle class? So you think there's a secret fourth goal that will vindicate what MAGA is doing?
What are the stated goals? Let's define what we think are the stated goals and I will give my thoughts..

Trump continues to be the best evidence of horseshoe theory

Hokie, between my two houses, I own 10 flat screen TV's, in use. Yes, that's excessive if I truly look at it from a different perspective, other than I want something.

Crazy.
Being that nobody claims to know what the Trump Admin is doing, how can you say that (bolded)?
Administration has said it multiple times, Lutnick, Miller, Bessemer, as well as some others.
and... Like I said, that's not going to affect me. The middle class, well... priorities in live, right?

You dumb**** brain dead Qanon/MAGA idiots always have a boogeyman. Thing is whatever cataclysmic, earth shattering bullshattery you predict is right around the corner never actually happens. Meanwhile the rest of us normal people, trying to raise a family, save for retirement, pay for our children's education, etc suffer from your stupidity

Even said by the economist of the left. Good find…

Reich is a hack and not an Economist.

But it's really funny to see y'all parroting leftist drivel and pretending to be conservatives

This is the really scary thing.

There is zero evidence the administration's tariffs are grounded in any sort of halfway cogent, rational macroeconomic strategy.

They're literally dragging the world economy into the ****ter for completely made-up, nonsensical reasons either because they actually believe that stupidity or because they want to pass the Trump purity test and throw their support behind whatever crazed idea he comes up with next.

And his ideas ain't exactly 4D chess. I think this fits here.

No you didn't... You provided your commentary, from your world view, of the goals. That doesn't make them the goal... Learn how to separate your feelings/views from the reality...

Hey cool! Trump just "paused" his unhinged tariffs for 90 days for "reasons?" and dropped everyone down to 10% which seems totally low now. Except for China, who now has a 4 million percent tariff, because they weren't "respectful".

Lol, hoo boy!
