Isn't that what he lefties were screaming for 4 years? Saying that President Trump was shredding the Constitution?

Just asking... I know many on here could care less but do any of you lefties ever look in the mirror at night and feel the least bit guilty about the hypocrisy of yourself and your party?

I won't hold my breathe waiting on an answer.

That's why there is such a HUGE problem with the employment shortage.

Lefties are lazy. Damn lazy. And they'd prefer for the government to provide them with everything. Zero self reliance, accountability or pride.

It's shown on here daily. Just look at the Covid thread.... "wear a mask because the government said to..."

Well... they also said not to, that the masks don't work and if you get vaccinated you don't need one. The lefties are so willing to be led blindly they can't see the forest for the trees.

Again... I apologize to "lazy" for using the term to describe the lefties. "Lazy" deserves better as an adjective.

Cannot imagine how frustrating it is for small businesses / restaurants to have to deal with the labor shortage. One thing to debate and agree upon a minimum wage increase overall....but for the government to incent people to now work, thereby competing directly with small businesses.....there is something very wrong with that.
I saw a CFA the other day offering $13 for summer workers and $18 for employees.

Do we even know when these benefits that enable this behavior (and competition) end?

When I am at the beach, Atlantic Beach and Beaufort restaurants are in HIGH-DEMAND for employees. They have to shut down different days because of help. Some shut down for lunch, etc... It's a real problem.

Minimum Wage - nothing to debate! It's a bad idea to pass a law for one person... any law passed for one person has a direct negative affect on another person. Equal protection, huh?

The CFA is facing what we call "Supply and Demand"... The demand for employees is greater than the supply. When demand becomes greater than supply, you typically get inflation. In this case, natural (well, not really because the government is causing a big part of the issue) salary increases.

I know a couple of residential landlords that haven't been paid rent in over 18 months at their properties, and the truth of the matter in reality is that the tenants have more money in their hands than ever, but they know that the government isn't making them pay - so they don't and instead spend that money on more booze, beer, cigarettes, scratch-offs, internet gambling parlors and whatever else their lowlife selves put value in.

i'd not want to be in the low-end home rental business for anything (Though I'm sure some have become very wealthy doing so).
For that matter, reading some of the comments above, I'd not want to be in the vacation home rental business either.
Chem, if one has plenty of cashflow, then, owning rental property is not always a bad thing, regardless of the type of property. One thing you have to think about is the value of the property, long-term.

Property, generally speaking, has always been one of the best investments you can make. I'm more of a commercial person...
And I'm a Commercial Broker... one of the best, if I might say so myself.

Well right....i get why CFA is paying so much. And its unfortunately, government enabled, which is problematic.
My question was -- what is the current end date planned for these benefits being handed out for Covid relief, which is creating this false competition with business.

As for min wage -- I'm not arguing for or against it....simply stating there is a means about which our government can elect to increase it. In this case, that has been bypassed in favor of payed benefits for those not working, which has, in many cases, essentially created an increased min wage due to the s&d you reference.

Saw same results when in IOP and HHI -- restaurants so understaffed they simply can not keep up (and in some cases, either shut doors, or reduce services). I'd guess this is true in most vacation destinations, which generally don't have enough locals to support peak seasons.

The progressive war on wealth spreads to trusts

This is a very helpful article that explains how some of the huge tax increases proposed by President Unity will be imposed. In this instance, they are targeting our life savings that have been preserved for the benefit of our children. All these massive spending bills have a cost. It is truly frustrating to watch a lifetime of saving and scrimping for the benefit of our children be washed away with the stroke of a pen.

The only good news in this is this isn't a law YET! We need to push back with everything we've got to prevent these thieves from getting their way.

Simple solution. Vote out the lefties. They want people beholden to them so they vote for them. Look at the African American population that has lived the last 50+ years voting lefty because the lefties are/were going to make their lives better?

Which cities have the lowest education standards, lowest test scores, highest unemployment, highest crime rates, highest single parent households, lowest standards of living?

Any of you lefties care to chime in on that? I can tell you. Ones run by your party.

If you control the money, the media narrative and the populous through that media you get Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, Detroit etc... all cities run by lefties with a high number of African Americans.

I wonder when or if they will ever wake up and realize the only people the lefties are helping are themselves. i.e. AOC complaining about her $2,000 a month rent, the transportation secretary's husband complaining that they could only afford a "1 bedroom apartment in D.C." even though they have a home in South Bend, Indiana and a vacation home in Traverse City, Michigan which is one of the most expensive places in the Midwest, Ice Cream Queen eating $12 a pint ice cream on national TV, etc.... the list goes on.

When you order a $#^t sandwich for lunch guess what you get? A $#^t sandwich.

Lefties.. you are the $#^t sandwich in case you can't figure it out!

I've seen the same labor shortage at my local Starbucks. This is certainly no vacation location.

The benefits are supposed to end in September. Several states have removed themselves from these extra benefits already but lawsuits are successfully reinstating them.

Right -- the owner of Prices Chicken Coop (RIP) alluded to this issue when he closed that restaurant a month or two ago.

Thanks for the date...I knew several states had tried to discontinue. The government should NOT be competing with businesses like this

Now see, this is an adult-person post. No name-calling, and no lumping people into divisive groupings. Congratulations!

As for the post, I understand and agree. He closed b/c he can sell the property and make a lot of $$ w/o having to work......that is the American Dream, and we should all be happy for him.

But, he did call out the labor issues....and I'm sure the headaches fro a guy who's been in the business for 50 years make it a much easier decision to get rid of all the employees, and sell off the property.
**I am sure he would have done it sooner or later anyway.

Pretty concerning. I'd hope that this could be fought in court, at least for trusts set up before this goes into effect.

If I'm reading this right, this could be really awful for family businesses that owners want to pass it down.

That's true. The more obvious penalty that will hit many folks is the removal of the "stepped-up-basis." For many families the home is their most valuable asset. See the example below to understand the impact.
Quote:

As we know, Biden intends to eliminate the stepped-up-basis rule for assets transferred to beneficiaries upon death. Under the plan, beneficiaries will assume the same basis in inherited assets as that of the decedent. In the case of a family home, for example, children may inherit a home with a fair market value of $500,000, but which was purchased by the decedent for a small fraction of that and held for decades.

For example, suppose the home was purchased for $50,000 and $25,000 in capital improvements (e.g., new garage; finished basement) were added over time. In that case, the decedent's basis is $75,000. Under current law, the beneficiaries inherit the asset with a basis equal to the fair market value of the property $500,000. If they sell at that price, there is no capital gain.

Biden's plan will eliminate this so-called "stepped-up basis." That means the beneficiaries will inherit the property at a basis equal to that of the decedent's in this example, $75,000. When they sell the property at fair market value ($500,000), they are taxed on capital gain of $425,000.

The result is that wealth is transferred not from parents to children, as it should be, but rather is divided among children and the government, as part of a deliberate plan to destroy the concentration of capital in the hands of private citizens.

That example should be plainly evident as impacting pretty much anyone.

Unfortunately, what the Dems do with many of these types of taxes is create that divide of "us vs them", where the "thems" are the super wealthy. So people think these taxes will only impact the bazillionaires who's kids grew up as world wide jet setters doing nothing, and so who cares if they only get $500M from daddy, instead of $600M.

But the reality is, it would significantly hurt pretty much anyone at any level of wealth....including those celebrating it in ignorance as a way to get back at the rich guy.
