Yep, my aunt and uncle were very vaccine-hesitant and had the mRNA concerns for months but ultimately did finally get the J&J vax last month.
They were holding out for Novavax but with that timeline continually getting pushed they eventually got J&J when Omicron started surging.
I read that the J&J production stop is temporary; that they've got millions of doses in inventory; that the plant currently making J&J will start back up in the next few months; and that other facilities have also been hired to produce the J&J vaccine, they just aren't up and running yet.

As an update to a post I had late last week regarding masking in schools and the flawed "study" the CDC published on their website, someone has done a really good job explaining the issues with the study. As I just commented to a WRAL Tweet this morning:
"We have reached a point where those who want to continue masking mandates in schools must provide evidence these mandates are effective in achieving the stated goal and are not causing harm. So far, they have not provided evidence of effectiveness."
I am sure the mask mandate supporters will be responding and accusing me of being an agent of the Koch family or a member of a "death cult" soon. It is their typical ad hominem response, when they can not provide any legitimate data to back their position.

This was in part my argument why I thought mask mandates would not work (one that was shouted down on this particular thread I might add), in addition to doubting the effectiveness of shirt sleeves as virus stoppers. I still believe that by in large, the majority of people who got sick with OG covid got it in their own home, or in a setting where they otherwise didn't feel like they needed to wear a mask. Even the most ardent mask wearers I know weren't wearing them in their own homes, and were prone to letting their guard down around people they trusted- family, friends, neighborhood kids, etc. Not even taking into consideration those given a false sense of security by wearing a cloth mask who could've spread it. Unfortunately, we didn't seem all that concerned about determining where folks were getting it, only counting cases.

Honestly, the way NYC is, I'm surprised they had 914 Teachers/Administrative staff that didn't take the vaccine. Education, in NYC, is predominately very liberal and follow the edict's of the left. <shrug> I guess it will be whatever is the dominant variant at the time or whatever is circulating. Like last spring's wave was only like 60% Alpha (and the remainder was like Gamma and Iota *or whatever, don't have the other variants at my fingertips right now).
Right now we have three main variants of Omicron circulating in the U.S. The originally identified B.1.1.529 and then BA.1.1 (which I believe is a sub of 529) and BA.2.1 (so called 'stealth') (I think there may be a BA.3 as well... but whatever).
The timing of the waves, IMO, are mostly independent of what the variant is. We were going to have a winter wave... I think Omicron made it LOOK a lot different than if it was primarily Delta all the way through, but it was going to happen.
So, if someone decided that we should call BA.1.1 - Pi and BA.2.1 Rho, does that really change the fact that they are already out there and exist?
There have been barely any other variants that have gained new traction recently. I don't think any new variant would have time to be seeded before spring.
Would have to find something new that gets seeded in time for summer waves (or maybe a unrelated virus for the next season if COVID is exhausted for now?)

Could there be another variant that arises and supplants Omicron? Yes. Could it be more infectious and more severe? Yes. Could it be more infectious and less severe? Yes. It is what viruses do. They mutate and sometimes they are more severe and sometimes they are less severe. Ultimately, they get a foothold if they can evade existing protection from our immune systems. As such, they have to evolve in a way that evades the defenses (like Omicron did) or they do not survive long.
We know the virus has already found animal hosts, so it can not be eradiated, no matter how many hamsters have to be put to death (yes - that is a thing - see Hong Kong). The virus has been found in mink and it has been found in deer. There a likely other animals where it can survive, mutate, and be transferred to humans. It will continue to mutate - this is what complex, RNA based viruses do. Some believe Covid will eventually mutate its way to something akin to the common cold and this is possible. I do think it is more likely it will go through a few more cycles of increased transmissibility and possible increased severity before it gets to the common cold level. If it gets too severe and easily kills its hosts, it will be a very short-lived variant, which is why milder variants have a better chance of survival and ultimately, why it will get to the severity level of the flu or the common cold.

This is also how your immune system works. As your antibodies wane, you become more susceptible to becoming infected, but the other layers of defense will keep most people from becoming severely infected. Those people who have health conditions that put them on the edge are most at risk. The vaccines basically "primed the pump" of your immune system and from that standpoint, they did work. They allowed people's immune system to experience the virus without having to actually experience the virus and its nasty side effects, so the next time it sees the real virus, it has some level of defense. It is why I chose vaccination instead of waiting for my body to see the real version.
I would argue that the vaccines did do a good job, even against Omicron at keeping people from developing a severe infection. They did not prevent infection, but neither does your immune system as your antibodies wane.
