In the Wake Co. area, Johnston County just voted to make masks optional in schools, starting on Feb. 21. One school board member voted to keep masks in place. They did include a stipulation that says if 4% of the students/staff are in isolation, masks go back in place for 10 days.
In Wake County, Raleigh and Wake County voted to keep the mask mandate for at least two more weeks and after this period of time, they will discuss it again. I am going to have fun voting this November. It does not matter who is running, since I will not be voting for a single incumbent in any of the city or county elections.
I so hope they are at my polling place to campaign on election day, so I can tell them to their face that they are too stupid and corrupt to get my vote.
Students and staff will be required to wear masks indoors for at least another month. https://t.co/0T9cisQyzd

"The poll found that many Democrats, especially younger Democrats, seem to be overstating their personal risk from Covid. In response, some readers argued that exaggerating individual risk is actually a good thing, because it leads to more support for Covid mitigation policies, like mask mandates and limits on public gatherings." <== refers to poll NY Times ran last week

"The benefits of universal masking in schools remain unclear. Studies in Florida and in England, for example tend to find little effect on caseloads. One study that did find an effect has been largely debunked."

"Other experts believe that the universal mask mandates are almost worthless. Among the reasons: Medical masks are designed for adults, not children, Michael Osterholm, a University of Minnesota epidemiologist, notes. Even masks designed for children slip off their faces. Children take off their masks to eat. Add in Omicron's intense contagiousness, and the benefits of the current mandates may be tiny."

Children who go to New York City public schools are required to wear a mask outdoors as well as indoors.
The introduction of the 5-11 vaccine did not loosen these rules at all, and they applied to children regardless of vaccination status.
Democrats' plan to fight COVID is working - cases are down & vaccines are widely available. Now, it's time to give people their lives back.

Just In: An average of 83 people per day are dying with COVID in NC. That is the highest the death rate has been in almost a year. https://t.co/CBIXbV0hSx

WRAL sucks at context. As I addressed elsewhere, NC DHHS added 3 deaths from January 2021 and 1 from December 2020 this week (amongst other backlogged deaths).Daviewolf83 said:
Yet another scary headline from WRAL, meant to scare everyone into compliance. The thing is this - it is lacking context. What period of time are they measuring and what measure are they using? Is it deaths by date of death or is it deaths by report date? If it is by date of deaths (the only legitimate measure), the number is actually 43 per day - if you include deaths back to January 1, 2022.
It seems like a pretty big deal to over-report deaths by 40 a day.Just In: An average of 83 people per day are dying with COVID in NC. That is the highest the death rate has been in almost a year. https://t.co/CBIXbV0hSx

The next time WRAL gets something right in regard to their reporting of covid will be the first time WRAL gets something right in regard to their reporting of covid...Daviewolf83 said:
More evidence the mask mandates are working. Look how much better California has done limiting their cases, compared to those anti-maskers in Arizona. Thank goodness California had the will to institute a mandate across the entire state. Otherwise, they would have looked as bad as Arizona.
Oh wait - something is wrong. How could the mask mandate in California not produce a better result than Arizona? Must be the difference in weather or Arizona is cheating and hiding cases.
I know it is the wrong side of the state, but this is one of my favorite charts lately.TheStorm said:The next time WRAL gets something right in regard to their reporting of covid will be the first time WRAL gets something right in regard to their reporting of covid...Daviewolf83 said:

Yes. After just a few days. But I've kept a cough for 4 weeks now.Mountainman97 said:

I keep the data for the top 7 most populated counties on a separate tab from these other 7 that I was charting, but the other day noticed the the **** disturbers in Union's curve looked a little similar to their neighbors.
Look at all the benefits of mask mandates in Mecklenburg!!

To be fair, i do feel the majority of us in the community are doing our very best to use experience and judgement to understand the disease and its management options to offer the best guidance and care to our patients that we can. Those who care for you and your community are typically less influenced by policy, administrations (govt or hospital), and outside pressures than some think. At least that's what I've perceived here throughout this thing.

The "ask your doctor if X is right for you" ads bother me as well. If I thought I had to come up with the correct drug for myself, I think I'd be "doctor shopping" to find a more competent one.bigeric said:
I have felt for some time that it is somewhat unseemly for Big Pharma to be advertising their expensive new drugs to the general populace. Especially with the admonishment to "let your doctor know" of all the drugs are taking, as if your doctor isn't the prescribing physician. Otherwise they could be encouraging doctor shopping in order to get the latest and greatest drug.
