No new Antigen tested deaths were reported today
Typical Monday with low number of deaths reported and lower number of tests. It is obvious that daily testing has increased significantly over the past couple of weeks and I expect this may continue for some time. The average number of daily tests (as reported by NCDHHS) has averaged 31,666 daily tests for the past two weeks. For the 30 days prior, the average daily tests were lower at 26,493 tests/day. The percent positive tests has averaged 6.2% for the past two weeks, which is above the 5.5% average for the 30 days prior to the 14 day period.

10/17(2), 10/13, 10/11 <== Antigen Deaths
I expect the media to make a big deal about 53 deaths being reported today and it is a big number. Almost half of these deaths came from Congregate facilities and as you can see, they cover deaths back to late September. The deaths that jumped out to me are the ones from 10/16 and 10/17, where NC saw 11 on each of these dates.
I looked into the county data and there are a few counties reporting higher than normal daily deaths for the county. Some of these could be some of the Congregate deaths. I have listed the counties with higher number of daily deaths reported today:
Alamance (4)
Bertie (3)
Buncombe (4)
Cabarrus (4)
Craven (5) <== almost 10% of their total deaths reported to date
Randolph (3) <== almost 5% of their total deaths reported to date
Stokes (3) <== had only reported 5 deaths in total until today's report of 3
Wake (5)

No new Antigen deaths announced today
Looking at the counties where a larger than normal number of deaths were reported, I see the following details. I suspect a few Congregate facilities are seeing some deaths and these are showing up in the increases in overall deaths.
Bertie(3) <== this is in addition to the 3 from yesterday. In two days they have recorded 6 of their total 19 deaths
Cleveland (5)
Gaston (3)
Nash (3)
Robeson (3)
Surry (3)
Cooper and Cohen have a press conference today and I expect them to provide some signals at to potential changes in the policies currently in place, in reaction to the increase in cases and hospitalizations.

2,120 Deaths are now Congregate (+23 from yesterday)
52% of Deaths are from Congregate setting (46% of deaths were Congregate today)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2,400 positive cases over 35,363 new tests (DHHS reports 34,093). 6.8% positive rate (DHHS reports 5.9%)
Dates of Death Reported 10/22:
10/21(7), 10/20(9), 10/19(6), 10/17(4), 10/15(2), 10/13(2), 10/12, 10/11, 10/7, 10/2, 9/28, 9/26, 9/22, 9/20<== PCR Deaths
** The reporting today is missing the date of death for nine (9) reported deaths. This seems to be a rather larger number of missing dates and I suspect it may be related to the delays in the Congregate settings update.
10/20, 10/18 <== Antigen deaths
** One Antigen death was removed (10/15), so two Antigen deaths are missing the date of death.
Looking at the counties with three or more daily new deaths, I see the following details.
Guilford (4)
Mecklenburg (4)
Nash (5)
Pitt (3)
Rowan (3)
Stanly (3)
Watauga (3)

2,716 positive cases over 35,347 new tests (DHHS reports 33,620). 7.7% positive rate (DHHS reports 7.3%)
Dates of Death Reported 10/23:
10/22(2), 10/21(6), 10/20(3), 10/19(5), 10/18, 10/17(3), 10/16, 10/15, 10/14(3), 10/13, 10/12, 10/8(2), 10/5(2), 10/4, 9/27(2), 9/26, 9/6 <== PCR Deaths
** The reporting today added six (6) dates of death that were previously missing from the report.
10/22, 10/17, 10/14, 9/24 <== Antigen deaths
** Antigen deaths removed for 10/5, 9/27. Two(2) Antigen deaths are missing a date of death.
As Wayland mentioned, there are approximately 708 cases missing from the county reporting today. The sum of the county cases totals 2,008 cases, but NC reported 2,716 new cases today. I assume the delays in reporting were due to the missing county case data. The strange thing is the death reporting by county is not missing any deaths.
The counties reporting three(3) or more deaths today are:
Pender (3)
Rutherford (4)
Sampson (3)
