Roy's got a new graphic. Wonder what the task force will do.

Ahh... apparently this is audio only.

If they stopped kissing each other's asses, patting each other's backs, and thanking everyone for their leadership, they could get a whole lot more done in these meetings.

So much for doctors being able to have their own opinion about how to treat Covid-19. Dr. Simone Gold who is the originator of the Front Line Doctors, was fired yesterday because she "appeared in an embarrassing video." A doctor with 20 years experience in Emergency Room medicine has been cancelled because she can think for herself and believes HCQ is good way to treat Covid 19.

For better or worse, our public school system takes care of a lot of the basic needs for a pretty large number of children. I know local schools here have had programs to continue to provide food to kids, but as your article points out, that's only part of what many of those kids need. It's a tough situation, but there's definitely a section of students that are really hurt in multiple ways if there aren't on campus classes.
It's a real damned-if-you-do/damned-if-you-don't situation as far as opening schools. Some sort of option to allow kids to choose virtual or in-person instruction would be ideal. Those that really need the support of the system can still get it while those that can't or won't risk it - maybe a grandparent or high-risk family member at home - can opt out. I think Wake County took some sort of survey to see what people wanted but my kids are beyond public school so I don't know exactly what they're doing.

I didn't see anything on your link about where she was fired from. I saw this below from USAToday that said she's a concierge physician, meaning she has direct access to Patients through her own practice. Based on her making the rounds on Fox News and Glen Beck, it sounds more like she's on a publicity tour? Her LinkedIn makes it very clear she's self-employed in a number of different avenues...

"Dr. Simone Gold, who has identified herself as an emergency medicine specialist in Los Angeles. In May, she gained national attention for being a part of a group of Pro-Trump doctors who advocated for quickly reopening the economy. On her website, she claims she "works as an emergency physician on the frontlines whether or not there is a pandemic." On LinkedIn, she says she works as a "Concierge Physician," an increasingly common field of medicine where patients pay a monthly or annual fee for access to a physician, according to AARP. She is listed as having a renewed and current medical license by the Medical Board of California and self-reported to the board that she completes 30-39 hours of patient care per week."

People make up stuff for media attention all the time. Remember Jussie Smollette?

It seems weird to me that even before she claims to have been fired, journalists were trying to find out about her and could not verify any employment other than her medical license is active. At one point she worked in an Urgent Care clinic in California several years ago but she does not appear to have been actively working as an emergency Dr recently. Did a quick check on Wake's LTC situation with all the deaths lately.

Wake has added 23 nursing home deaths this week based on the ongoing outbreaks reports.

I just took another look at the death reporting by week and found that only 49% of the deaths reported this week are deaths that occurred this week (66 out of 134 reported). The remaining 68 deaths are from weeks prior to this week. If you look at each of the following weeks, you can see which weeks had more lag in reporting than others.

Week Ending (total and percent of deaths form that week)
7/25 (143 deaths reported, 72 from this week (50%))
7/18 (124 deaths reported, 70 from this week (56%))
7/11 (105 deaths reported, 49 from this week (47%))
7/4 (71 deaths reported, 47 from this week (66%))
6/27 (99 deaths reported, 49 from this week (49%))
6/20 (102 deaths reported, 43 from this week (42%))
6/13 (103 deaths reported, 45 from this week (44%))
6/6 (98 deaths reported, 66 from this week (67%))
5/30 (132 deaths reported, 94 from this week (71%))

I never said that. You compared her to Jussie Smollette and like I said she is smart. No I trust her because I have listened to her. She knows what she is talking about. She should not be censored or fired for stating her opinion. There are lots of doctors who agree with her and lots that don't. She has had success prescribing HCQ to her patients, so her opinion should be evaluated.

Journalists (and I use that term loosely) say they can't confirm one's employment record, and that fact lends credence to a questionable record.
All of a sudden, we now accept news media as gospel?
Should it be confirmed Lin Wood has accepted her as a client, that for me would refute the medias assertions.

Appears the virus is back to doing what viruses do in some of the countries that were held up just a few weeks ago as success stories. Here are today's daily new cases graphs for Australia, Germany, Spain, and France. Appears the virus is starting to raise its ugly head in all of these countries. Many of these countries went so far as to shutdown 90% of their businesses. This demonstrates that even with severe lock-down policies in place and areas that saw tremendous numbers of cases in the early days, the virus is going to do what it is going to do.

On the other hand we have Sweden. A country that did not lock-down their economy. A country that has not closed their elementary schools, and a country that has pretty much shunned the wearing of masks. Sweden did not do a good job in some areas of their country in preventing deaths in congregate facilities and this has lead to a high death rate. While their deaths per capita are higher than the US, they are not as high as the UK. The UK took severe measures to control the spread, but they saw deaths in excess of Sweden. It is also suggested that Sweden's population did a much better job of avoiding large gatherings and this contributed to their positive response. A high percentage of the Swedish population also lives alone and this is something that many believe has given them an advantage over other countries.

In summary, the world is in an on-going battle with the virus and this battle is likely to continue beyond when a vaccine is available. Governments and health agencies can try different policies to slow the spread and attempt to control the virus, but in the end, a virus is going to act like a virus. Covid-19 is one of the worst viruses we have seen from an infection level standpoint and efforts to control it around the world have been and will continue to be extremely difficult, as you can see from the graphs. As Dr. Fauci stated yesterday, "I do not believe it would disappear because it's such a highly transmissible virus." He went on to say, "I don't really see us eradicating it."

Also have to remember when not looking at a positive % rate asjusted case graph, that March and April cases are likely low.

I think some of the stat guys started doing something like (percent positive in decimal)x100x(Dectected Cases) to try and normalize things.

Will have to try and dig up what they are doing.

Thanks for the info on the countries that are experiencing a resurgence of the virus. I haven't seen this mentioned by the media, but then again maybe I just missed it. I'm sure they will get around to covering it since they have used the supposed success of these countries to show how much better their response has been to the response of the United States. I look forward to the updates from the media.

This example is why I have tried to avoid the blame game with regards to the virus. Well, except for my criticism of the five or six incompetent and/or sadistic governers that pushed infected patients into nursing homes. Health professionals, politicians and journalists have all been wrong at some point during this pandemic. It's understandable, we are dealing with a virus that no one knew anything about a few months ago.

If these countries do see a resurgence of the virus then it might prove that you can't hide from it as much as you would like. Perhaps herd immunity is the ultimate end game.

I saw a graphic this week of states with increasing covid cases. It was basically the Midwest across to the Rockies and every state in between. If the numbers in the South and the Southwest are declining as some reporting seems to show then maybe those states are next. If so, that would basically cover the whole United States as having gone through being a covid hotspot. First it was west coast, then northeast, then south and southwest and now possibly the middle of the country. We'll see. I just thought about it when I saw the graphic of increasing cases and noticed that was really the last part of the country that hasn't been a hotspot yet.

Will be interesting to watch Sweden the next few weeks and see how flat they stay. Most of their soft spots have probably been exposed already.

As opposed to shutting down and then slowly reopening, every time you reopen you expose more soft spots, and cause mini outbreaks.

By just reasonably social distancing and continuing on, don't hide the links as much.

On a side note, DHHS apparently thinks it isn't important to post updates today. 2 hours late and no notice as to why.

A doctor with 20 years experience in Emergency Room medicine has been cancelled because she can think for herself and believes HCQ is good way to treat Covid 19.

Stealth edits to hospitalizations everywhere. DHHS keeps going back and deleting old hospitalizations.

Yesterday they reported 1229 hospitalizations, Today, they say there were only 1180 people hospitalized yesterday??

They say they changed it. Apparently some hospital was double counting patients and they just figured it out. GJ guys.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has been transitioning the collection of hospital data from a manual system to an automated one. As part of ongoing quality control measures, NCDHHS identified an error in our hospitalization data for the Metrolina Healthcare Preparedness Coalition (MHPC) for July 25 through July 31. This data has been corrected. The graphs below include information showing how the numbers have been updated.

So, they reported the first 4 days over 1200 ever in hospitalizations this past week (T, W, H, F), but now we find out they weren't actually real...

all the while the ongoing cases as a % of tests dropped to it's lowest running average of 6.934% yesterday since it was at 6.924% on June 12... but yet, we're still somehow in a case spike?

That about sums it up. I didn't see any big headlines yesterday "NC DHHS has been double counting hospitalizations. Hospitalization numbers lower than previously reported".

But I am sure anytime there is an odd data lag error or aggregation oddity that causes a spike, they will be right on it.

She sounds pretty similar to every single politician, news outlets etc during this entire covid crap. I ain't saying I do or don't believe her but you throwing out that line that someone will buy whatever is thrown out down the road, is the exact same thing you're doing with the media coverage you decide to watch.
