Why did you leave off the 405,399 of WW2? Seems awful convenient.
Just saw this and yes, I saw the WW2 numbers and knew that would now work. The 5 years and 4 months of World War II American deaths (April 21, 1940 - Aug. 18, 1945) did take an American toll of 405,399! I thought the 7 Wars/Conflits would be enough but I see your comment lands 4stars****....not surprised! You didn't mention the Civil War either and I had 3 GG grandads and 1 GGG granddad die in that one. Civil War ~ 620,000; 4 years, 27 days.

WWII - 76,059.8 American deaths/year
CW - 151,838 American deaths/year

6,800 US death occurred in the Revolutionary war - 7+ years
15,000 Americans died in the war of 1812 - 2 years, 8 months
116,516 US deaths in WW1 - 4 years, 106 days
33,686 US deaths in Korean War - ~ 3 years
4418 Iraqi Freedom - over 1 month
2586 Persian Gulf War - 42 days
2349 Enduring Freedom - 13 years

Covid- 19 American deaths - 196,277 / 6 months and 13 days (as of yesterday) I hope that number stops there but my uneducated guess is it "could" be greater than 405,000 in 1 years time?

And the CDC said that only 6% of the number were from COVID only. That means 94% had other, mostly primary, conditions causing death with a COVID positive.

I don't know what to make of all these numbers....

We've been over this. The CDC did NOT say that only 6% of covid deaths were because of covid. They said in only 6% of the death certificates did the doctor simply and ONLY write "covid." On 94% the doctor CORRECTLY AND APPROPRIATELY included things like respiratory failure or ARDS which were the proximate COD secondary TO covid. The table you reference is for all to see and interpret. The 6% is a fallacy and only proves that 6% of the time the doctor did a lazy ass death certificate.

I'm all for pointing out all the inaccuracies and BS that are keeping us shut down, but let's not get in the habit of spreading inaccuracies the other way either.

Carry on.

Mormad - You should just make a copy of your post and paste in every now and then when the 6% number comes up. It will definitely be mentioned again and just pasting in this post will save you some time by not having to re-type it.

Congregate continues to drive deaths in NC. Second worst week for reported Congregate deaths in NC

Top 2 weeks for reported Congregate deaths are both IN SEPTEMBER

Over 75% of deaths reported this week were Congregate OR Unknown Setting

Less than 25% in General Population

I'd be curious to see how the US's method of reporting cause of death differs from the same internationally.

To get context of how we're doing you can analyze both absolute death figures and also compare Per capita figures relative to other comparable nations.

If other countries report deaths the same as the US, that's instructive.

I think it should be fairly obvious that we are the only country counting the "with Covid" numbers as "from Covid"... all you have to do is look at the numbers and use common logic (which I realize is in short supply anymore nowadays).

Has NCDHHS ever explained why (or more importantly how) they figure their percent positive rate differently than using the actual numbers they post for us on that given day? *and I'm guessing that you forgot to change the (DHHS 4.6%) from copying over the template from the day prior...

Thanks for the catch. Yes, they were at 5.4% today.

They end up throwing tests on previous days reporting and changing those values. It makes it hard to track which tests get assigned to which days. Still don't know the numbers they use to calculate their percentage.

They end up throwing tests on previous days reporting and changing those values. It makes it hard to track which tests get assigned to which days. Still don't know the numbers they use to calculate their percentage.
So maybe, no one can accurately verify or track their numbers (other than themselves theoretically )?

Here are a couple of charts that shows the changes in the percent positive originally reported by NCDHHS and the updated percent positive that can appear the next day or several days later in the reports. You can see from the blue bars that it is not uncommon for NCDHHS to lower the percent positive after announcing higher percentages.

Also, NCDHHS does a similar thing with adjustments to the daily new tests. I have included a chart that shows the originally reported daily tests versus the updated daily tests that can updated in the next report. You can see the number of tests run will typically be adjusted up the next day the report is issued.

I think it should be fairly obvious that we are the only country counting the "with Covid" numbers as "from Covid"... all you have to do is look at the numbers and use common logic (which I realize is in short supply anymore nowadays).

Why should it be obvious?

If that was the case wouldn't the "excess deaths" number be pretty close zero instead of currently between 200-260k per the CDC?

You guys do realize Alex Berenson looks really dumb here, right? Who is Alex Anyway, and when did he last determine a cause of death and fill out a death certificate?

I think the point is very valid when determining deaths caused by a virus versus deaths with a virus. I don't think he looks dumb at all.

That's cool. But tell me what those people died of when they died "with covid." Tell me what you're seeing, brother.

There's also a link provided by the Milwaukee coroner in the comments that lists all the deaths. That may help too.

How about dying of dementia with Covid?

It's also interesting that the Milwaukee letter says pneumonia is often not the UCOD, but if you look at CDC website leading causes of deaths, it lists influenza and pneumonia.

Do people die of dementia? Or do they die of other things because they have dementia? (The answer is the latter)

That death certificate lists covid as the cod, and dementia as a morbidity.

We love to argue only those who are old and have co-morbidities listed on those certificates have to worry about dying from covid, and then when they do die we love to argue that they died of the co-morbidities instead of covid so that the numbers don't have to look so bad.

I only chose dementia because I went to leading cause of death on CDC website. Down the page I saw a study where CDC did a study of dementia mortality from 2000-2017.

"In 2017, a total of 261,914 deaths attributable to dementia as an underlying cause of death were reported in the United States."

I think the books can be cooked however they need to be due to how COD and comorbidities are reported. I also think we are smart enough to collect the data to distinguish between those who died of Covid and those who died with, which we are making no effort to do.

Edit to add... I did not read the study. A quick scan brought me the quote I used as I felt it helped make my point.

Here's why i think he looks dumb:

1. He insinuates that old people with chronic disease like parkinson's, DM, HTN, COPD, PVD, heart disease who also contract covid all die of the chronic condition and with covid, instead of FROM covid WITH Co-morbidities.

2. those certificates, to me, actually separate out those that died WITH covid vs those that died FROM covid by using cause A and cause B.

3. His comments after the tweet confirm his lack of understanding what he's seeing in those death certificates and his lack of knowledge regarding disease processes. He's flabbergasted by the fact that they listed a person as dead from covid when they had 5 co-morbidities like no patient like that could ever die of covid. "You can't make this up."

Whatever. It doesn't matter. But i see nothing wrong with those certificates, nor do i see anything political about them.
Mormad
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The key word is "underlying." People don't die of dementia, they die with dementia. With complications of dementia. Pneumonia, failure to thrive, malnutrition, etc. Cause A pneumonia, cause B dementia and whatever other Co-morbidities felt significant.

And if we're following those numbers for public health reasons (as we are covid numbers since it's a pandemic), then we'd want dementia listed on the death certificate (just as covid is, either as the COD or alternatively a "cause B") so we'd have accurate data regarding all the people who died with dementia. And then if the Dems cried that dementia was a terrible problem that could be better managed if they won, would we make such a stink over who died with dementia vs those who died from it if that were possible?

I think you bring great perspective b/c this is what you do so I appreciate it. However while you can clearly understand how death certificates work the point is that the general public cannot... and you have said that yourself. While you say Alex looks dumb for downplaying he's only trying to point out what everyone else is doing with these... and that's adding to the death total that people are feverishly tracking everyday without context. Everything in our society right now is fueling fear and he's one of the few voices that is trying to contradict that. So while the certificate itself lists cause A versus cause B are they not all going towards to the tally? If not I apologize but I'm under the impression that they are and this is just one city. All across the country who the hell knows what's being reported.
packgrad
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They are all counting towards the tally, and that is the point.
Mormad
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, just as they did in the tally of those dementia numbers you pulled. How do you think they got those numbers?

There is nothing wrong with those death certificates. You, I, nor i promise you Alex Berenson can look at those death certificates and dispute their validity. He's doing so, and using ridiculously poor logic. You like it and defend it because it fits your narrative, despite its flaws. Again, he looks at a death certificate that lists "complications from covid infection" as the COD and then states the person didn't die of covid because they had Parkinsons, afib, htn, diabetes, and pvd. He assumes they died of one of those things and the covid is a lie, and then says, "you can't make this up." He's flabbergasted, but I'm also flabbergasted at the sheer stupidity in such logic and ignorance of disease. I'm sorry that he is so wrong in this. Pointing out things to calm fear using poor logic and complete misunderstanding doesn't sound so pragmatic to me. Filling out death certificates correctly isn't the issue here, how you think they're being used is the issue. Alex shows ignorance in blaming the reporting, instead of the interpretation. I'm saying the reporting is accurate and appropriate. If we want to argue how that data is USED to keep us down, I'm behind you all the way.

Look, i want life back to normal. I want to go out to eat. I want to go watch sports. I want things opened up intelligently based on the science as we understand it today. I'm sick of the political bullsht. But i also can't support such poor interpretation of things people like him don't understand and putting that all over Twitter like it's authoritative and accurate just because it supports my end game. I want things open, but let us keep it honest, real, and objective because the other side isn't.

Your last sentence is the point I'm talking about. I'm not blaming your colleagues for how it is being written up. If someone tests positive for Covid while they're in hospice, then they don't count as a Covid death, IN THE WAY THE DATA IS BEING COLLECTED TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR THR POPULACE. In the puritanical pandemic data collection, fine have at it.

Don't think I'm backing my colleagues here. Im not lol. There is a very short and distinguished list of docs I'd trust to take care of my loved ones. I just want my wolfpack brethren to have some working knowledge of the purely medical mechanics here so they can use this info correctly instead of emotionally.

Are all of these accurate? Likely not. That's not reality. And i suspect the people filling these out are doing so as accurately as they can based on the data available to them about that pt's death. They aren't thinking about the election, the governor, blues or reds... They're just doing their job. For, i suspect, seemingly puritanical reasons.

I get it, my man. I just wish the people using the data to make such decisions were as smart as me

You and i definitely want to same thing, my friend. Just viewing it from different angles.
