I read a few comments about getting or being excited about baseball.
I'm not sure I can use the word "excited" when it comes to describing my emotional state when I watch baseball.
Football, that gets my blood pumping. Baseball I watch because for me it's enjoyable. I can go to the park sit for a while, have a hotdog and Pepsi, and relax. It's a long game. It's a game to appreciate, but I just don't get that sense of urgency with baseball. Lots of games, very streaky, for me that makes it hard to get overly excited.
The emergence of NIL has made it even more difficult, across all sports, to develop fanfare for the individual. One doesn't know year to year if that player is sticking around. It's hard to make that personal connection.
Right or wrong the thought I get is this.. players don't care about the school anymore, they care about the Benjamins. Loyalty is a hard pass in the shadows of cash. It's hard to watch the priority shift in todays college sports.

Derrick Smith had a nice start this week. Going 6 innings giving up 0 runs on 4 hits. For the summer Smith has gone 18 innings given up 15 hits, 10 Ks (which is a low number), but only 3 walks for a 2.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.00.

He has a nice arm, so it's nice to see him doing well this summer.

There's his game log. It's actually pretty good other than he's not striking out a ton of dudes but he's getting outs and not walking anyone. His stuff is good enough to miss bats when he's throwing strikes and he's throwing strikes this summer and winning games. We'll see how it translates in the spring.

The Northwoods League is not the Cape Cod but it's a good summer league.

Kalae Harrison with 2 more hits tonight. He is now hitting .355 for the summer. Interesting numbers, b/c as good as that average is, he has 0 extra base hits (in 31 ABs) and 0 walks (to 9 strike outs).

JD had a good game last night but Halford didn't for the Zookeepers and Garrett Pennington went 1-4 vs the Zookeepers last night in his first summer game

Dienes went 6 innings giving up 4 hits, 2 runs (earned). He struck out 8 and walked 0. Very encouraging to get the walk number down.
