Hilarious that people are tryna complain about hitters being too aggressive in the box tonight. A couple weeks ago people were pissin and moanin about us showing too much patience. LOL

Stop listening to Gaby Sanchez he's up there freestylin'. He called Justin Lawson 2 different names for pete's sake. Dawson and Jawson!

Eli swung at a fastball right down mainstreet. None of the coaches got on him one bit about that, I'd bet dollars to donuts.

If he gets a hit there not one word would've been posted about his "aggression". LOL

I can't wait to see what we complain about next week (hopefully during a game).

Smart baseball says you take one there. Yeah it was fastball down the pipe.

Dollars to doughnuts that he would of gotten another one As well if he would of took that one.

Just not smart baseball. It is what it is.

I've been on this site since the beginning and the baseball board has by far the most "negative Nancy" game threads.
Hard for him to tell when he's constantly doing his nancy impressions. hahaha

I am not going to complain except about the home plate umpire. He was AWFUL. How do you know what to swing at and what to take. His zone changed from batter to batter. We had lots of bad calls but Miami had their share too. The biggest at bat of the game was Nixon with the bases loaded and he claimed the ball hit his foot. He should have hopped into it. A little jump up and two inches forward and the game was tied. Tough at bat there. We battled and the ball just didn't carry tonight. I thought Serrano hit his better than the result in the bottom of the eight. All in all a gallant effort and a really tough loss. I hope we play next week and we pitch that well again. I like our chances, especially if the Coastal projection comes true.

Nope. It was lefty on lefty and you knew you were getting a fastball right down the middle. You take your chances swinging at the first pitch.

Smart baseball says Cannon doesn't get the game winning hit on Tuesday because he's taking all the way. Sometimes smart baseball is doing the opposite of what the manual says, because the other team won't expect it. I would've taken the first pitch if I were in Eli's place, but I'm not, I'm sitting on a very nice couch drinking bourbon, so that doesn't put me in a place where I can be critical.

"Smart baseball" says Gino should've taken the first pitch he sees against duke after Soles walked on 4 straight pitches. Instead, he goes bomb track on the first pitch and we're up two zip. Smart baseball is ripping the sht out of a dead red fastball right down the middle of the damn plate. Not one dude on here complained about Gino not taking a pitch b/c the pitcher just walked a guy on 4 straight balls. Not even Mr "Smart Baseball" himself Whitetail said a word. Hell, whitetail didn't make one post about the homerun and the lead. Wasn't until we started looking shaky did he grace us with his presence. Must've had to work late. Probably.

good game-neither team could get that hits with men on base

A loss like that happens with good pitching on both side

We will win more of those games with that type of effort from Lawson. Hanging the change up in the first hurt us

From someone that played for Esposito I can offer 2 things:

1) You just didn't see a pitching change in the middle of an at bat.

2) 2-0 you're taking. Make the pitcher throw a strike. Did he have a swing away sign or a take sign? A fastball in the zone with a hitter with some power? I can see him taking a cut at a pitch he liked.

If Eli had a great pitch to hit, go ahead and swing but he must have a very small zone and speed

He is lefty on lefty and ahead in the count. That was probably the best pitch he was going to see in the at bat. I never saw the replay but did the reliever groove it in and Eli just missed it?

People that say it was not smart baseball to swing really do not know the modern game in the last 20 years. Pitching is so much better with great depth now, that you better be aggressive up 2-0. It is not little league baseball and taking 2-0 is a thing of the past, especially with 2 outs.

Now if he swung at a bad pitch, that is on Eli but I think he just missed it-it happens. Plus, if he walks, we are getting towards the end of the line up. It is not like Groover was on deck.

Smart baseball by Eli to be aggressive

You are correct on the home plate umpire. I commented on this to Rob and Daniel about halfway through the game when I went to the press box to upload some pictures to my computer. I do not think the umpire favored one team over the other. He was bad for both teams. His strike zone seemed to vary vertically the most. It had to drive the pitchers and the batters crazy. As far as the ball carrying, it felt like the wind was blowing in a little bit from right to left. I never looked at the flags to tell for sure, but I noticed it while I was moving around the stadium taking pictures.

Street was bad, but the problem was that was inconsistent. If you're gonna call high strikes, that's fine, call them all the time. Otherwise nobody knows what to swing at. Hell, he even confused himself.

Nothing carried either way I thought. It looked like the air was "heavy" or damp. Sometimes that will keep the ball from carrying. I thought we barreled a few balls but no good results.
