RELEASE: Rychcik Will Not Return As Softball Coach
Shawn Rychcik will not return as NC State softball coach after guiding the Wolfpack for the past six seasons, it was announced on Wednesday.
Rychcik completes his tenure in Raleigh with a 173-162-1 mark overall and a 53-59 mark in ACC play. NC State completed its 2018 regular season on Sunday with a 23-31 mark and 5-18 record in ACC play.
“Although my time here did not end how I hoped, I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at NC State,” said Rychcik. “I am proud of our ACC Championship, NCAA Super Regional appearance and am thankful to all the student-athletes, coaches and staff I had the opportunity to work with.”
“We appreciate all of Shawn’s contributions over the past six seasons leading NC State softball,” said NC State Director of Athletics Debbie Yow. “We wish Shawn and his family all the best in their future endeavors.”
Hired in July of 2012, Rychcik guided NC State to the 2013 ACC Tournament title, just the second in program history. In 2015, he guided NC State to the finest season in program history, compiling a 38-22 mark en route to its first NCAA Super Regional appearance.
Over the past three years, however, NC State has gone a combined 64-102 overall and 21-50 in ACC play.
A national coaching search will begin immediately, led by sport administrator and Assistant Athletics Director Georgia Brown.
