Osuigwe loses in 3 sets. Broadfoot and Slama both win in straight sets.

In this Sectional tournament, six singles players will qualify for the NCAA tournament (and 3 doubles teams qualify). If Tanasie, Broadfoot and Slama can win their singles matches tomorrow in the Round of 16 and advance to the quarterfinals, then they all will have a very good chance of being able to qualify for NCAAs.

The doubles team of Tanasie and Slama win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. And the team of Conway and Zyryanova also win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Both advance to the quarterfinals. With 3 teams qualifying for the NCAAs in doubles out of the section, if they win tomorrow in the quarterfinals that gives them a very good chance of making NCAAs.

Broadfoot just finished her match this morning with a dominant win over #61 ranked Shavit Kimchi of Duke in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. She now advances to the quarterfinals.

Tanasie is currently playing on Court 5....won the first set 6-4 but down 0-3 in the 2nd set.

Slama is currently playing on Court 3.

Tanasie just won 6-4, 7-5. And Slama had won earlier this morning 6-1, 6-2. So all three of our singles players won this morning and have advanced to the quarterfinals (to be played tomorrow morning, I believe).

In doubles, Zyryanova and Conway won and advance to the semifinals. Tanasie and Slama lost.

All in all, a good day for the Wolfpack women. We have 3 singles players and 1 doubles team now with, effectively, a 75% chance of qualifying for the NCAAs. If they win their matches tomorrow, they will automatically qualify. If they lose, they then have a chance to qualify by winning a consolation match.

Schedule for tomorrow:

Singles, quarterfinals:
Tanasie @ 11:00 am
Slama @ 11:00 am
Broadfoot @ 12:45 pm

Doubles, semifinals:
Zyryanova and Conway @ 2:30 pm

Beautiful weather forecast for tomorrow (high in low 70s, almost no chance of rain). I'm definitely planning to go to the site and watch a lot of these matches, especially as it is the last chance to see NC State tennis in person before the team competition season begins in January.

Slama and Tanasie both beat players from Duke this morning, advancing to the semifinals and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in singles.

Tanasie wins 7-6, 6-0. Slama wins 6-2, 6-2.

Broadfoot wins over Clemson opponent 6-4, 6-1, advancing to the semifinals and qualifying for the NCAA tournament. Wolfpack has 3 of the 4 semi finalists in singles. Broadfoot will face Slama, and Tanasie will face Rabman of UNC in the semis, both to be played tomorrow.

Zyryanova and Conway win this afternoon in the doubles semis 6-2, 6-3 and qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Zyryanova had previously qualified for the NCAA tournament in singles (prior to this Sectional tournament), so with Broadfoot, Tanasie and Slama qualifying today in singles that is a total of four Wolfpack women qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in singles, which I saw mentioned on the official social accounts was a program record.

And Broadfoot and Osuigwe had previously qualified for the NCAAs in doubles prior to this Sectional tournament, so we are sending two doubles teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Very strong showing in the fall for the Wolfpack women's tennis squad.

I'm not 100% sure, but it appears that the semifinals singles matches and the doubles finals may not even be played. At the following link, those matches have not been scheduled with a time for tomorrow (when on previous days they would have posted a scheduled time for the next days' matches by this time on the night before), while the consolations have been scheduled (where the winners can still qualify for the NCAA Tournament).

Since the main point of the Sectional is to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, it would make sense to stop play once you have qualified.

Thanks for all the updates. I enjoy reading them. I grew up playing tennis and I love the game. Hope to make a match in Raleigh soon. I can't believe how good our men's and women's teams have gotten.

Yeah, the rise of the Wolfpack women's team to national prominence over the last 6-7 years has been nothing short of unbelievable...considering how unremarkable they were from the beginning of the program in the 80s until around 2014. I hope we can keep Coach Earnshaw in Raleigh for a long, long time.

The women's team should be very very good again this year. Probably a top 10 team all season long, and contending for the ACC title and even the national title. The UNC women will also be extremely good (top 5 team nationally) and I would say right now that the ACC title comes down to us and UNC, with Duke a factor also. Of course, the next opportunity to see them in person in the Raleigh area will be when the team competition season begins, in January (through May).

The men's team was ranked as high as #5 nationally last season. They lost 3 important seniors from last year, so this coming season might be a little bit of a rebuilding year, but they seem to have a lot of momentum going forward for the program and on an upward trajectory.

Tuesday's opening day will feature the singles round of 64. Tanasie will begin the day for the Pack at 9 a.m. against No. 67 Emily Welker (Ole Miss). Broadfoot follows at 12:30 p.m. versus No. 13 Julia Garcia Ruiz (Oklahoma). Zyryanova and Slama round out the day at 3 and 4 p.m., taking on second-seeded and No. 17 Carmen Andreea Herea (Texas) and No. 60 Nao Nishino (Ohio State), respectively.

Doubles play begins Wednesday in the round of 32. Broadfoot and Osuigwe will face No. 38 Daria Smetannikov and Mia Kupres (Texas A&M), while Zyryanova and Conway will take on Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley (San Diego State).

A tough draw for Broadfoot and Zyryanova in singles. Zyryanova opens play (round of 64) tomorrow against the #2 seeded player in the tournament. And if Broadfoot wins in the round of 64, she would likely face the #1 seed in the round of 32.

Broadfoot wins in the round of 32 this morning, defeating Na Dong of Baylor in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. In the round of 64 yesterday, Dong had defeated the #1 seed in the tournament, Valerie Glozman of Stanford.

With this victory, Broadfoot advances to the Round of 16, and with that will be honored as an ITA All-American in singles, a pretty big deal.

Her and her sister, but to different schools

Yes. It's Gabia, the younger sister who was a true Freshman with the Wolfpack last year. She's now at Florida. The older sister, Kristina, transferred to Alabama.
