Conway defeated Thompson 7-6, 6-1 in the qualifying round of 32. I believe that with this win, she has now advanced to the main draw, which I think will begin play tomorrow.

For those thinking about coming out to see some of these matches in person, the venue is UNC's home facility in Chapel Hill, the Chewning Tennis Center....which is not on their main campus, but is about 3 miles away.

It's completely free entry for spectators (no ticket required), and there is a ton of parking there (way more parking than needed, because there are some other UNC buildings nearby, with parking for those buildings).

Schedule for tomorrow (Friday, Oct 17th):

Singles, Main Draw round of 64:

Slama @ 12:45 pm
Broadfoot @ 1:30 pm
Osuigwe @ 1:30 pm
Zyryanova @ 2:45 pm
Tanasie @ 3:00 pm

Doubles, Main Draw round of 64:

Slama & Tanasie @ 9:00 am

Main draw Singles round of 32 results:

- Broadfoot advances because opponent withdrew due to injury (match never started)
- Osuigwe loses due to retiring due to injury at 2-2 in the 3rd set. I was there, and saw the match. She was not seriously injured. She appeared to have some kind of quad or hamstring strain, which started bothering her late in the 2nd set, but she played through it, including trying to play after about a 5 minute medical timeout after being up 2-0 in the 3rd set. But she was in enough pain that she couldn't do a "full power" serve, and was only moving around the court at about 60-70% speed.
- Slama wins 6-3, 6-1
-Zyryanova wins 6-4, 6-7, 6-2
- Tanasie wins 7-5, 6-3
- Conway loses 1-6, 1-6

Anna Zyryanova beats #12 ranked Rabman in 3 sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.

Nice win for Anna. And she now qualifies for the singles at NCAAs. So something measurably positive came out of this tournament.

Both the Wolfpack men's and women's tennis teams will be participating in the Sectional Championships that are taking place at UNC's home courts (the Chewning Tennis Center), starting tomorrow (Thursday) November 6th and going through Sunday, November 9th.

There are only 4 sectional sites in the entire country, and "East" sectional is hosted at UNC's courts. So there are top players from the entire "East" region of the country at this tournament, with it being the last chance for players to qualify for the singles and doubles NCAA tournament in Orlando later this month.

On the women's team, those competing in singles include Broadfoot, Osuigwe, Slama, and Tanasie. And those competing in doubles are Slama & Tanasie and Conway & Zyryanova.

I assume that Zyryanova is not competing in singles and Broadfoot and Osuigwe are not competing in doubles because they have already secured their spots in the NCAA tournament.

Schedule for Thursday, Nov 6th:

Singles, Round of 32:
Tanasie @ 10:00 am
Osuigwe @ 10:00 am
Broadfoot @ 11:15 am
Slama @ 12:00 pm

Doubles, Round of 16:
Slama & Tanasie @ 2:30 pm
Conway & Zyryanova @ 1:30 pm

Tanasie and Osuigwe are about to start play in singles. Tanasie is on Court 1 and Osuigwe is on Court 3, and both of these courts have streams available (I'm watching both streams currently and see them warming up and about to start play).
