The NCAA.com link for RPI Rankings has not been updated since a week ago (after games played through Nov 24th). Don't know if it will be updated some time today or not. As of this ranking from a week ago, we were at #48. But we will obviously move up after our wins over Miami and SMU since then.

I found this unofficial RPI Ranking, that is updated for all the games played up to yesterday, and it has us currently at #35. If that is true, I would think we would still be on the bubble, but in a decent position to possibly get a bid to the tournament:

The NC State volleyball team stunned 10th-ranked SMU with a reverse sweep Saturday evening at Moody Coliseum to mark the programs third ever top-10 win.

The Pack moves to 15-12 on the season and 11-9 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Breaking Down the Match
  • The Mustangs jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening frame but a kill by junior outside hitter Ava Brizard started a 6-0 scoring run to give the Wolfpack the lead (8-6).
  • A back-and-forth battle between the two teams began, with neither leading by more than two points at a time. Heading into the first media timeout of the match, SMU led 15-13.
  • Head coach Luka Slabe used his first timeout of the set after SMU took a three-point lead out of the media timeout (17-14).
  • The Mustangs went on a 8-0 scoring run to close out the opening frame on top, 25-15.
  • The Wolfpack continued to struggle in the beginning of the second set, forcing Slabe to use an early timeout in hopes of regrouping the Pack. Out of the timeout, NC State went on a 10-3 scoring run to take the lead, 15-12, forcing SMU to take a timeout of its own.
  • A 4-1 scoring run by the Mustangs put SMU ahead, 17-16, forcing Slabe to use his final timeout.
  • Despite late efforts by the Pack, SMU took set two, 25-22.
  • NC State started the third frame off with an 8-3 lead over the Mustangs, forcing SMU to use an early timeout.
  • The Pack continued to dominate as it increased its lead to seven (14-7), forcing the SMU to use its final timeout.
  • An attack error by Naya Shime allowed NC State to push its lead to 10, the largest of the evening for the Wolfpack.
  • The Mustangs would score four more points before NC State took the third set, 25-14.
  • Through the first three frames, senior opposite Amanda Rice led the Pack with 12 kills while Brizard added 10.
  • It was a back-and-forth battle in the fourth set, with neither team leading by more than one point. The Pack went on a 5-2 scoring run to push the lead to three headed into the media timeout (15-12).
  • A service error by the Mustangs allowed NC State to take the fourth set, 25-18. Rice led all scorers with 17 kills through four frames.
  • The Wolfpack continued to dominate to start the fifth set until the Mustangs minimized the lead to one (11-10), forcing Slabe to use a timeout.
  • With NC State on match point, the Mustangs tied the set 14-all but the Pack would go on to win the match, 17-15.
  • Senior middle blocker Jada Allen tallied a career high 10 blocks in the win.
  • The win marks the 16th of the season, 11th in conference play, 816th overall in program history, 214th in conference play in program history, and 78th under head coach Luka Slabe.

ACC got 9 teams in the NCAA tournament, half of the conference. Last year, we had a better overall and conference record (22-7, 12-6) and I think a similar final RPI, but got snubbed. Very happy for the team that they got in this time...would have been brutal to miss out two years in a row on the bubble.

I think the strength of the ACC this year (Pitt, Louisville, Stanford, and SMU all top 10 teams) really helped our RPI. So even though we had more losses than last year, our RPI must have gotten boosted by playing a very tough conference schedule.

Final official RPI rankings have now been updated (through games played Nov 30th). We came in 35th, which is in the ballpark of our final RPI from last season…IIRC we were high 30s last season.

Our first round opponent Florida is #24.

Looking at our 1st round opponent, Florida....we share three common opponents this season with Florida -- South Florida, Georgia Tech, and Florida State. Looks like this will be a close match up that could go either way between the Wolfpack and Gators.

NC State beat South Florida 3 sets to 1 on the road in Tampa. Florida lost to South Florida 3 sets to 2 at home in Gainesville.

NC State lost to Georgia Tech 3 sets to 0 in Atlanta, with the Wolfpack winning an average of 18.3 points in each set. Florida also lost to Georgia Tech 3 sets to 0 in Atlanta, with the Gators winning an average of 19.7 points in each set.

NC State lost to Florida State 3 sets to 1 in Tallahassee, with the Wolfpack narrowly losing the 1st and 4th sets by only 2 points (could have very easily gone to 5 sets). Florida beat Florida State 3 sets to 2 in Gainesville.

Congrats to the Volleyball team and staff. I did not think they were going to be in, but the upset of SMU and the overall RPI had to be big factors. Good luck in Lawrence!

I have not been following volleyball recruiting, but I just saw this a minute ago on IG that we have the #18 class in the country coming in next fall.

Did just a little research on this incoming 2025 recruiting class. These girls have some serious size. Outside hitter Jordan Smith is 6'4". Outside hitter Rebecca Ring is 6'2". By comparison, our best outside hitter on the roster right now, Amanda Rice, is 6'1". Middle blocker Hailey Mcfadden is 6'2". Middle blocker Talia Francom is 6'5".
