A new era of NC State Gymnastics is set to begin on Saturday, Jan. 6, as the Wolfpack will open the 2024 campaign with a dual meet at Georgia.
NC State enters Saturday's contest tabbed as one of the preseason favorites in the new look ACC, with the Wolfpack tied with North Carolina as first in the preseason coaches poll.
The Pack reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023, defeating Ball State in the first round to advance to a quad meet against Arkansas, Ohio State, and Oklahoma as part of the Normal Regional. NC State is returning a plethora of talent from its 2023 squad, including two all-arounders in Emily Shepard and Alexis Ortega in addition to graduate Chloe Negrete.
Shepard became the first gymnast in school history to win conference gymnast of the year twice in her career in 2023, with her being named EAGL Gymnast of the Year in the Wolfpack's final year as a member of the league. Ortega earned All-Around Champion status at the EAGL Championships in March, while Negrete was named Comeback Gymnast of the Year by College Gym News at the conclusion of the postseason.
Saturday's meet will be the first of a three-meet road stretch for the Wolfpack, with NC State traveling to West Valley City, Utah, for the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad on Jan. 13, and then opening ACC play at North Carolina on Jan. 19.
The dual meet between the Wolfpack and Bulldogs is slated for a 4 p.m. start time, and will be streamed on SEC Network + through the WatchESPN app.

NC State Gymnastics opened its 2024 campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 194.225 final score in a dual-meet loss to Georgia. The GymDogs finished the afternoon at 196.200, outscoring the Wolfpack on bars, beam, and floor.
The Pack's afternoon was highlighted by Chloe Negrete taking the individual titles on vault (9.875) and beam (9.900), while Emily Shepard claimed a solo first-place finish on floor (9.850). Shepard ended the day in second place amongst four all-around competitors (39.050), while freshman Maddie Hall's career debut resulted in a third-place all-around finish with a score of 38.375.

Three NC State gymnasts led the way for the Wolfpack by tabbing a trio of 9.800 scores in the Pack's first rotation of the season. NC State Gymnastics improved on its opening meet score by an impressive 1.450 margin on Saturday evening as the Wolfpack competed in a quad meet alongside BYU, Cal, and Michigan State. The Wolfpack finished the evening with a 195.675, highlighted by an all-around total of 39.150 from Emily Shepard while Chloe Negrete registered a pair of 9.900 scores on vault and floor.
No. 6 Cal claimed the team title of the four-team contest with an impressive 197.875 final score, while 14th-ranked Michigan State finished the night in second place at 196.725. BYU finished the evening at 196.100, with Cal's eMjae Frazier taking all-around champion honors with a score of 39.775, the best individual all-around score of any gymnast in the country so far this season.

The two foes faced off for the final time as members of EAGL at the EAGL Championships in Durham, N.H., where the Pack finished in second place amongst eight participants and topped the Tar Heels 196.425-196.350.

The Golden Bears posted a 197.875 to claim the top score in the event's third of three sessions, while No. 16 Michigan State fired a 196.725 and BYU added a 196.100.
NC State's performance last week was highlighted by a pair of 9.900 scores from graduate Chloe Negrete, who tabbed a pair of season-high scores on vault and floor while adding a 9.825 on beam.
The Pack had a strong showing overall on vault, registering a 49.175 in its second rotation that matched its highest total in the event throughout the entire 2023 campaign.
North Carolina additionally competed in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad, facing Arizona, Boise State, and Nebraska on Friday, Jan. 12.
The Tar Heels ended the quad meet in fourth place with a total score of 195.150.
While Friday night will mark the first meeting between the Wolfpack and Tar Heels as ACC foes in 40 years, the two met as EAGL opponents three times last season.
NC State opened its 2023 campaign against the Tar Heels by posting its best first-meet score in program history at 195.525. The Pack later faced North Carolina in a tri-meet alongside Western Michigan in Reynolds Coliseum, where NC State led the way with a 196.275.
The two foes faced off for the final time as members of EAGL at the EAGL Championships in Durham, N.H., where the Pack finished in second place amongst eight participants and topped the Tar Heels 196.425-196.350.
Friday's contest will be streamed on ACC Network Extra through the WatchESPN app, with the first rotation slated for a 7:30 p.m. start time.

The Pack saw a pair of freshman shine on bars, with Harper taking the individual title in the event and Hadrick making her career debut in red and white. Harper erased her previous season-high score of 9.800 with a 9.850 mark, followed by a 9.825 from Emily Shepard and a 9.800 from Alexis Ortega. Hadrick posted a 9.750 in her first collegiate routine while the Wolfpack's scoring effort on the rails was completed by a 9.725 from Peyton Childs.

For the first time since 1984, the Wolfpack competed in an ACC gymnastics meet and the team did not disappoint. Not only did the Pack record an ACC victory over rival UNC-Chapel Hill, but it did so with a season-high score of 196.225.
