Yeah, the team came out super flat in the first set and was down by 6-8 points for most of the set, but fought back to close within a few points near the end of that set. The team didn't have Amanda Rice for this entire match, arguably our best player thus far this season. I didn't see her on the bench either…so no idea why she wasn't available. But Leoniak was back and played well tonight. Another good crowd in Reynolds.

Those 5 set road losses to Miami and FSU were tough, but they can still have a great season. We should be favored in almost every ACC game left on our schedule, except for the game against Pitt at home next Friday. A potential 13-5 or 14-4 conference record this year would be a significant accomplishment, with the program continuing on an upward trajectory after two consecutive seasons with 10-8 ACC records.

NC State Volleyball (14-4, 4-3) moved back into the win column on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over in-state foe Wake Forest (13-5, 4-3) in Reynolds Coliseum.

The Pack saw a trio of underclassmen reach double-digit kills, with Ava Brizard tabbing a game-high 13 while Courtney Bryant added 12 and Martyna Leoniak contributed ten.

NC State's impressive offensive attack was aided by a team-best 22 assists by Kristen McDaniel, in addition to 17 assists from Naomi Cabello.

Despite falling in the first set 25-20, the Wolfpack ripped off three straight set victories to claim their 11th win over the Demon Deacons in the last 12 meetings of the series.

After dropping the opening frame, the Pack took its first lead of the contest at 4-3 in the second period. Behind four aces in the second set, NC State picked up a 25-18 win to level the score at 1-1. A strong evening on the serving line continued for the Pack in the third and fourth sets, with NC State posting nine aces, a season-high for the Wolfpack in ACC play.

The Pack never trailed in the third set, clipping Wake 25-12 to move in front at a 2-1 set advantage. The Demon Deacons 12 points in set three matched the fewest in a set surrendered by the Pack this season, with NC State having hit that mark earlier in the year against Utah Valley, Rutgers, and George Washington.

A back-and-forth final frame saw the Pack score seven of the final nine points, collecting a 25-20 win and improving to 8-0 on the season at home.

NC State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 15 against Virginia Tech at 1 p.m. for the team's annual Pink Match. The second leg of the Pack's four-game homestand is set to be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Despite it being Friday the 13th, the NC State volleyball team did not flinch in the face of fear in its ACC matchup against Wake Forest. In fact, the Pack bested the Demon Deacons 3-1 in Raleigh.

The Wolfpack (14-4, 4-3 ACC) came into the Friday night matchup hoping to shake off some away-game blues after it lost to both FSU and Miami last weekend. Wake Forest (14-5, 5-3 ACC), on the other hand, came with a three-game win streak on the line.

As soon as the first set got underway, one thing was clear: Wake Forest was ready to roll. After the Demon Deacons started the game on a 6-0 run in which all of their points but one came from kills everyone in Reynolds Coliseum could see that visitors were not going down without a fight. The red-and-white was playing catch-up the whole set, with the greatest deficit being 16-5. Despite battling back with a few scoring runs, NC State couldn't take the first set back.

This first set loss lit a fire on the Pack's side of the court though, enabling the red-and-white to sweep the next three sets to take the game.

The second set was a true showing of NC State's offensive prowess, with the ladies of the court totalling four service aces. As the team worked its way up to 12 total kills during the set, sophomore outside hitters Ava Brizard and Courtney Bryant worked their magic. Brizard finished the game with 13 total kills, followed closely by Bryant with 11.

After taking the second set 25-18, the Pack was hungry for more. Graduate setter Kristen McDaniel nailed a service ace near the start of the third set to get the Wolfpack going her 22nd of the season so far. With another 12-kill set, NC State was able to keep Wake below 15 points, winning it 25-12. Back-to-back block assists from junior opposite hitter Martyna Leoniak and junior middle blocker Jada Allen got the crowd and the defense going.

Allen finished the game with nine block assists while Leoniak tallied seven. Senior defensive specialist Skye Stokes took on 18 digs in the matchup, putting her total at 246 on the season.

The fourth set was reminiscent of the first, except the Pack managed to come out on top. There were 13 total scoring ties throughout the final set and seven changes in the lead. The red-and-white ultimately came out on top, tallying 15 kills alongside two more service aces in the last set to bring the final score to 3-1.

The Wolfpack will have home-court advantage for its next three games. Up next, the Pack will take on Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 15 with first serve set for 1 p.m.

NC State volleyball took down the Virginia Tech Hokies 3-0 in an early afternoon showdown in Reynolds Coliseum, bringing the red-and-white's home win streak to nine games.
The Pack (15-4, 5-3 ACC) came into this matchup in the win column after defeating Wake Forest 3-1 on Friday night while the visiting Hokies (11-8, 1-7 ACC) looked to improve in conference play after a rough start.
As the first set commenced, the Pack got the kills going early. Four of the first six points for NC State came from kills, paired with a block assist from junior outside hitter Martyna Leoniak and junior middle blocker Jada Allen. This was just the first of many impressive defensive showings from the red-and-white's front row.

The Pack dominated the first set, winning 25-15. Senior defensive specialist Skye Stokes and senior setter Naomi Cabello both notched service aces for the Pack and the team finished the set with 16 kills.
Leoniak and Allen got the second set started with another block assist, keeping momentum on the Pack's side of the net. Nine of the Hokies' 16 points throughout the second frame came from mistakes from the Wolfpack, proving how important it is for the red-and-white to remain disciplined throughout the match. The Pack recorded 15 kills and two service aces in the second set, once again showing its offensive talent.

Redshirt junior outside hitter Madison Williams also played a big role for the red-and-white, totalling eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage through the afternoon. Williams and Leoniak finished the match tied in kills and sophomore outside hitter Ava Brizard led the team with 13 by the end of the three sets.
The third and final set was a closer one than the previous two, with the Pack only winning by five points. NC State went on two 5-0 scoring streaks, but the Hokies put themselves back in it with a 5-0 run of their own when the Wolfpack had the match point. It took six tries for the Pack to get that final point to end the match, but senior middle blocker Riley Shaak finished the game off with a kill.
While the Wolfpack offense was putting up kills, the Pack's defense was also getting the job done. The team kept every Virginia Tech player below 10 kills throughout the matchup, with NC State notching 10 block assists and one solo block courtesy of Allen. Stokes finished the match with 15 digs, followed by sophomore outside hitter Courtney Bryant with 10.
NC State will continue ACC play when it hosts No. 8 Pittsburgh on Friday, Oct. 20. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

Huge opportunity in the match against #7 Pittsburgh at home in Reynolds this Friday (Oct 20th) at 7pm. I heard the commentators mention in the last match that they think at least 5 ACC teams will make the NCAA tournament, based on the RPIs. I think we are at #29 RPI currently. Right now we are sitting in 5th place in the ACC.

If we could upset Pitt, obviously that would be another massive win for the program, but would also make us a virtual lock to make the NCAA tournament, and potentially finish in the top 3 in the league. Pitt lost to Louisville 0-3 a few days ago. So we could definitely beat them, especially with the home court/crowd advantage.

I went to the Louisville match in Reynolds a couple weeks ago, and the atmosphere was electric with an official ~2,800 fans in attendance. Hopefully we can get a similar crowd for this one. Tickets are only $8, available for purchase at the front entrance to Reynolds as you walk in.

The NC State volleyball team is set to host No. 7 Pitt on Friday Oct. 20 and Virginia on Sunday Oct. 22 for week five of Atlantic Coast Conference play. The meeting with the Panthers will begin at 7pm on ACCNX and Sunday's meeting with the Cavaliers will begin at 1pm, also on ACCNX.

The Match Up

• The Panthers hold a 11-2 advantage over the Pack in the series history that dates back a decade

Here we go...big one tonight. The team has been doing extra to promote attendance, especially getting students to the match. Students make a big difference as compared to "older" fans, of course, as they make like 5 times the noise, and are chanting, etc.

One of the assistant coaches says here that the Reynolds crowd/atmosphere is one of the "reasons" they currently have a 9-match home winning streak and were able to upset #5 Louisville a few weeks ago.

NC State Volleyball (15-5, 5-4) dropped its first home match of the season on Friday evening, falling to seventh-ranked Pitt (18-3, 9-1) in straight sets in Reynolds Coliseum.

Ava Brizard posted a team-best eight kills for the Pack, with Kristen McDaniel aiding the Pack's offensive effort with 11 assists.

The Panthers took the opening set 25-15 after closing the first frame scoring four of the set's final five points. After trading points early, the Wolfpack trimmed Pitt's lead to 9-8 after an attack error but were unable to take advantage beyond that, with the Panthers taking nine of the next 11 points to push their lead to 18-10.

Pitt claimed the penultimate set in similar fashion, with the Pack and Panthers splitting the first 14 points of the frame evenly at 7-7. After moving ahead 10-9, Pitt tallied six of the next eight points and never looked back, securing set two at 25-16.

The final frame saw the Panthers put away the Pack 25-13, with Pitt using a 6-0 run early in the set to move ahead 10-4.

NC State will return to action on Sunday afternoon against Virginia in Reynolds Coliseum.

Sunday's matinee is slated for a 1 p.m. start and is set to be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Reynolds Coliseum was loud, the band was rocking and the stands were filled. With a scene set for an upset over No. 7 Pitt, NC State volleyball fell flat in a straight sweep, snapping an 11-game home winning streak.

"The crowd did a great job, we love it and it really helps us," said head coach Luka Slabe. "It's a bummer that we didn't give them a great game tonight … We appreciate it a ton and are hoping it continues."

The Panthers (18-3, 9-1 ACC) were always going to present the Pack (15-5, 5-4 ACC) with a major challenge. Pitt is a disciplined team that won't beat themselves by making mistakes - meaning NC State would need to play its best. The red-and-white started the sets strong, but it ran out of gas midway through each set.

"Pitt's a really good team, and they've got a really good record for a reason," Slabe said. "They're really well coached, have great defenders, pass it really well …That's why they've been to a Final Four for two years in a row."

Set one began as a back-and-forth battle, but it ended in a 25-15 win for the Panthers. As the set continued, there was a significant difference between the two teams: errors. NC State committed 11 errors in the set, compared to Pitt's six.

"Pitt does a really good job of putting pressure on you," Slabe said. "They're super long, physical and in your face."

During the second set, NC State jumped out to a 6-2 lead, bringing a roar to the electric home crowd. After this initial run, Pitt regrouped and stormed past the red-and-white enroute to a 25-16 set win, the closest of the night. As the set progressed, the Pack's scoring went cold and never truly recovered.

"Props to Pitt they had really nice blocking and defense that made it really tough for us to score," said sophomore outside hitter Ava Brizard. "If we want to make it on the big stage, make it to the tournament and beat these high level teams, we're going to need to learn how to outsmart them."

The third set brought more of the same. The two squads traded blows early before Pitt turned on the jets to secure a 25-13 set win that clinched the sweep for the Panthers. Overall, Pitt outplayed NC State In virtually every facet of the game.

"We're really close," Brizard said. "We're right on that eclipse and just need that last thing to click. I think that's going to happen really soon for us."

The Wolfpack will remain home to take on the Virginia Cavaliers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22. With Virginia sitting with a losing record, this is the perfect get-right game for the red-and-white.

After falling to the No. 7 Pitt Panthers on Friday night, NC State volleyball looked to rebound quickly and get back into the win column. The ladies of the court did not have to wait long, swiftly defeating the Virginia Cavaliers 3-0 on Sunday.

NC State (16-5, 6-4 ACC) lost its first home game of the season against the Panthers, but Virginia (8-12, 1-9 ACC) came to town just in time to get the team back on track. The Pack defense was on fire throughout the matchup, racking up 12 block assists and two block solos at the net.

It was all Wolfpack from the start of the first set, with the red-and-white getting out to a quick 12-3 lead. Redshirt junior outside hitter Madison Williams and sophomore outside hitter Ava Brizard put the team on their backs and carried the Pack offensively through the beginning of the set. Of the first 13 points of the set, six of them came from the outside hitting duo.

By the end of the set, 14 of the Pack's 25 points came from kills, and one point came from an ace courtesy of graduate setter Kristen McDaniel.

The second set was much closer, with the Cavaliers pulling out to a small, short-lived lead. The two teams battled it out throughout the middle points, but a 4-0 run by the Pack pulled the team ahead for good. Attack errors plagued both sides of the net Virginia racked up eight and NC State totaled four throughout the set. The Pack knocked down three service aces during the set, one from senior setter Naomi Cabello and two from sophomore outside hitter Courtney Bryant.

Bryant was the Pack's biggest star this game, leading the team with 12 kills by the end of play. She also tallied a block assist alongside her career-high two service aces.

NC State's defense was on fire throughout the matchup. Six different players for the Pack tallied a block assist, and junior middle blocker Jada Allen and senior middle blocker Riley Shaak each recorded a solo block. Allen and Shaak also led the team with block assists with three each. Bryant led the team in digs with nine, followed by senior defensive specialist Skye Stokes with eight.

The third and final set was the hardest for the Pack, with 15 ties and six lead changes between the two teams. Cabello notched another service ace for the red-and-white, with Stokes following close behind with an ace of her own. The set required extra points, but the Pack pulled ahead and won the final set 27-25.

With the week off to prepare, the Pack will take on Duke on Friday, Oct. 27. The first set is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Junior Amanda Rice paced the Wolfpack with 27 kills in the team's 3-2 loss at Duke, making her the first member of the Pack since 2012 to record more than 26 kills in a single match.

The opposite recorded only five errors on 50 attempts to finish the evening with a .440 hitting percentage. She is also the second member of the Pack this season to hit at least 25 kills in a single match.

To start the meeting, the Blue Devils took set one after a 7-1 scoring run, despite the efforts of the Pack to minimize their lead.

NC State trailed to open set two, but gained momentum with sophomore Ava Brizard behind the service line. The outside hitter helped the Pack to five straight points, highlighted by two aces. With the Wolfpack leading 15-10, the Blue Devils found a chance to regroup in the media timeout. Duke managed to rally back to come within one of the Pack, but NC State continued to dominate. The Pack took set two, 25-21, after Brizard tied a career high three aces to end it.

The third set was a battle for the two teams, featuring several long rallies. The Pack minimized the Blue Devils lead to one, 16-15, after some assistance from the net a dig by Rice went into the net and then a set by Jada Allen before Courtney Bryant hit it over. But Duke managed to take the set 25-22 and regain the overall lead, 2-1.

The Pack wasn't done as they battled to take the fourth set. As the Pack recorded its 12th point of the set, Rice tied her career high of 18 kills. On the team's 20th point of the evening, she set a new career high and ended the fourth set with 22 kills total and only five errors on 44 attempts. Duke thought they extended the set after scoring its 22nd point, but head coach Luka Slabe challenged the point, seeing the ball landed in. The call was then reversed, giving NC State its 25th point and ending the set 25-21.

The Blue Devils came out hot to start the fifth, but a 5-1 scoring run by the Wolfpack shook things up. Duke tied things six-all, starting a back-and-forth battle. After a timeout by the Wolfpack the Blue Devils found a weak spot in the Pack defense and took the set 15-13.

The two teams battled for three hours and tied the match on 46 different occasions.

Rice added three blocks and five digs to her stat line. Brizard finished the evening with 15 kills and three service aces. Fifth year setter Kristen McDaniel tallied 34 assists, while senior Naomi Cabello recorded 21. Senior middle blocker Riley Shaak tallied three blocks and three kills for the Wolfpack.

The Pack will head down the road to Chapel Hill to take on UNC on Sunday Oct. 29. The match will begin at 4pm on ACCNX.
