Third-ranked NC State women's basketball (10-0) closed out its home non-conference slate with a perfect record thanks to an 80-67 victory over Liberty (3-7) Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum.

Zoe Brooks headlined the afternoon by securing NC State's first triple-double since the 2000-01 season, with the freshman recording 14 points while tabbing a career best 11 rebounds and ten assists in her first career start. Brooks' performance marked just the second triple-double in program history, with the first coming from Tynesha Lewis on Feb. 21, 2001 in a win over North Carolina.

Aziaha James led the way offensively for the Wolfpack with 18 points sparked by four made three-pointers, and James and Brooks served as two of five members of the Pack to finish in double figures in scoring. NC State's scoring effort was boosted by a pair of 15-point performances by Mimi Collins and Madison Hayes as well as a 10-point showing from Laci Steele.

In addition to Brooks' team-high 11 rebounds, River Baldwin and Collins each collected ten boards, while Brooks' ten assists were the most passed out by a Wolfpack player since Raina Perez distributed ten in the 2022 NCAA Tournament against UConn.

NC State went on a 10-2 run in the middle of the second quarter to lead by as many as 14 (34-20), but Liberty scored the final six of the opening half to make it just a six-point game (37-31) at the break.

The teams traded buckets to start the second half, and Liberty drew within three points twice. The Pack responded by rallying off seven unanswered points to put its lead back in double figures with 2:35 remaining in the third quarter and ultimately scored 15 of the final 20 points of the period to lead by 13 (60-47) going into the final 10 minutes.

The Flames were able to shrink the Pack's lead to as few as five points in the final frame, but a three-point play from Hayes with 2:14 left in the game gave the Pack an eight-point edge that proved to be insurmountable.

The Wolfpack will play its first true road game, the start of three in a row away from home, at South Florida on Saturday, Dec. 16. Tip-off from the Yuengling Center in Tampa is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The third-ranked NC State women's basketball team (11-0) remained unbeaten on the 2023-24 season and handed South Florida (7-4) its first home loss of the year in 66-54 fashion on Saturday night.

The Wolfpack's 11-0 start is the fourth such start in 11 seasons of the Wes Moore era and the fifth in program history. Prior to the team's victory, the Bulls had not lost a non-conference game at home since falling to fourth-ranked Baylor on Dec. 1, 2020.

River Baldwin and Aziaha James tied for the team lead in scoring with 16 points apiece. Both of them put together a well-rounded night, with Baldwin shooting 7-of-8 and pulling down 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the year and James pacing the team with five assists and no turnovers.

Madison Hayes and Zoe Brooks both finished with 12 points to also hit double figures in scoring, and Mimi Collins finished just short of that with nine points.

The Pack led by 12 (40-28) at halftime after owning a +6 margin in both of the first two quarters. Baldwin and James combined for 18 of NC State's 22 first-quarter points and shot a collective 8-of-9 in the first 10 minutes of the game, leading the way for the Wolfpack's 66.7 percent (10-of-15) field-goal clip as a team in the period.

South Florida scored the first six of the second quarter to briefly tie it up but then went cold from there as the Pack held the Bulls to zero field goals for 6:44 to go up by as many as 14 (38-24) in the first half.

The Bulls burned two of their timeouts in that stretch and were never able to make up that distance in the second half. The squads pretty much traded shot for shot in the third quarter, and NC State managed to extend its lead to 15 (59-44) headed into the fourth. South Florida brought it within 10 after scoring the first five of the final period but never came closer down the stretch.

As a team, the Pack shot 28-of-56, its fourth time this season shooting 50+ percent from the floor. After giving up a pair of offensive rebounds to the Bulls in the first quarter, NC State went on to out-rebound USF 10-7 on the offensive glass and 42-28 (+14) overall. The Wolfpack also dominated the paint, scoring 42 of its 66 points there.

NC State plays another road game at Old Dominion on Wednesday, Dec. 20 before taking a break for the holidays. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Monarchs is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

For the fifth time in program history, NC State women's basketball secured a perfect regular-season non-conference record as the third-ranked Wolfpack (12-0) took care of business in an 87-50 road win at Old Dominion (8-2).

NC State made a statement against one of the best defensive teams in the nation, hitting more threes (10), scoring more points (87) and posting the highest field-goal percentage (.537) of any of the Monarchs' 10 opponents in 2023-24.

As has become its signature way, the Pack put together an incredibly balanced effort on its way to handing ODU its first home loss of the season. Six NC State players scored in double figures for the second time this year.

Madison Hayes led the way with her season-high 17 points, knocking down four three pointers to to tie her career high. She finished two rebounds away from a double-double with her eight, and River Baldwin was in the same boat with 12 points and nine boards.

In her homecoming, Virginia Beach native Aziaha James tallied 16 points, and Laci Steele (11 points) and Mimi Collins (10 points) added in solid efforts off the bench.

After making history with a triple-double in her first career start two games ago, rookie guard Zoe Brooks posted a double-double in her third start in a row. She finished the night with 13 points and 11 assists, becoming the first Pack player in at least 15 years to have 10+ assists in two games in the same season.

The Wolfpack used a big back half of the second quarter to build up a comfortable lead and position itself for the eventual win. After ODU scored the first six of the second to go up 19-18, NC State limited the Monarchs to just one made shot in the final eight and a half minutes of the period. That stretch saw the Pack score 17 of the final 19 of the opening half to lead 36-21 at the break.

NC State pushed its lead over 20 by rallying off the first eight points of the second half and kept that much of a cushion for the final 16:13 of the victory. Within that stretch, the Pack scored 20 unanswered from the 2:11 mark of the third quarter to the 5:45 mark of the fourth quarter.

Following a break for the holidays, the Wolfpack will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 31 for its final of three-straight road games and its ACC opener. NC State makes the trip to Virginia for that contest that is set for a 6 p.m. start on the ACC Network.

Third-ranked NC State women's basketball (14-1, 2-1 ACC) suffered its first loss of the season in a road thriller on Sunday afternoon, as the 13th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies (12-2, 3-0 ACC) hit a last-second shot to win 63-62.

Wolfpack guard Saniya Rivers laid one in off the inbounds play to put the Pack up 62-61 with 2.1 seconds remaining, but Virginia Tech advanced the ball to set up a play for veteran center Elizabeth Kitley who knocked down what would be the winning shot with .09 seconds on the clock.

Madison Hayes led the Pack in scoring and set a new career high in scoring with 21 points. The senior guard shot 7-of-9 and knocked down 4-of-5 three pointers to tie her career high in threes made. Rivers also finished in double figures with 12 points after playing all 40 minutes.

NC State led from the jump and never trailed until the Hokies went up one (61-60) with 1:28 remaining in the game. That came near the end of a nearly eight-minute scoring drought for the Wolfpack during which it shot 0-of-11 from the floor. NC State went up 60-49 early in the fourth quarter to force Virginia Tech to take its first timeout of the game, and the Hokies scored 12 unanswered out of that break before Rivers' late layup that briefly put the Pack in front.

After leading by three (28-25) at the half and scoring nine of the first 12 points of the third quarter, NC State held onto a 7+ point lead until just under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

NC State returns home on Thursday, Jan. 11 for its second tilt of the season with Virginia. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Cavaliers is set for 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be broadcast on ACCNX.

NC State (15-1, 3-1 ACC) kept its home winning streak alive as it cruised by visiting Virginia (8-7, 0-4 ACC), with the sixth-ranked Wolfpack beating the Cavaliers 93-66 in front of another sold out Reynolds Coliseum crowd on Thursday night.

The Pack was once again able to show off its variety of offensive weapons as five players scored in double figures in the team's home win. NC State's 93 points were the most scored by the team in a game this season and its first time scoring more than 90 against a conference opponent since its home finale against Syracuse on Feb. 20, 2022.

Freshman guard Zoe Brooks set a new career high in scoring with 19 points in her fifth career start, as did fellow rookie Laci Steele who scored 13 points and knocked down three triples. Mimi Collins nearly notched a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, Madison Hayes added 17 and Aziaha James scored 15.

All available players saw time in the victory, and 10 different Wolfpack players found the scoring column. NC State knocked down 10 threes as a team, with five different players contributing to that tally. James (2-of-3) and Hayes (3-of-7) both joined Steele in multi-three pointer nights.

NC State jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the first two and a half minutes to force Virginia into a timeout, and the Cavaliers were never able to recover from there. Five unanswered points by Brooks put the Wolfpack up 10 (19-9) just under the six minute mark of the first quarter, and Virginia did not get its deficit back into single digits for the remainder of the game.

After scoring its most points in a half this season to carry a 57-34 lead into the break, NC State led by 20+ for the entirety of the second half.

NC State has now won 11 home games in a row and remains perfect (9-0) in home contests in 2023-24.

Sunday is NC State's open date, and the sixth-ranked Wolfpack will then return to action next Thursday, Jan. 18 with a trip to Miami. That road contest against the Hurricanes is slated to start at 6 p.m. on ACCNX.

I hope River can get it back together. We're gonna need her down the stretch. She helps on defense but she absolutely killed us on offense.

Yes doing a good job of that, but you still have to make a better percentage than we have lately. They have shown they are capable in several games, but have to be more consistent.

Correct on Brooks 0-4 the last two games. Both in the last minute or two of play. For her part, Zoe played very well in the first half.
