NC State women's basketball (1-0) opened its 2023-24 campaign on Tuesday evening with a commanding 84-43 victory over in-state foe Charlotte (0-1) in the first leg of a four-game homestand to kick off the season.

Five members of the Wolfpack finished with double-figure point totals, led by a career-high 26 points from Aziaha James, 19 of which came in the first quarter to mark the most points scored in a single quarter by any player in program history. Zoe Brooks made her NC State debut by contributing 12 points off the bench, while Mimi Collins and Saniya Rivers each added 11 and Madison Hayes posted 10.

NC State's offense was aided by 14 total assists, including a game-high four from Rivers, while Hayes totaled a team-best eight rebounds on the evening.

The Pack's offense got moving quickly, using a 7-0 run over the first 1:33 of play to take an early edge. James tabbed the first three field goals of the contest and knocked down four three-pointers in the opening frame alone.

The Wolfpack's 36-8 lead after the opening ten minutes matched the highest quarter margin in team history and now stands as the third-most points scored in a period since the NCAA moved from two halves to four quarters prior to the 2015-16 season.

NC State carried a 41-15 lead into the locker room at halftime, and the Wolfpack coasted to a victory in the second half, never trailing on the night and leading by as many as 42.

All 11 of the Pack's available players saw action against the 49ers, with newcomer Lizzy Williamson and freshmen Mallory Collier, Maddie Cox, Laci Steele, Jannah Eissa and Brooks each making their debuts in the Red and White.

NC State will turn its attention to a highly-anticipated home matchup with the second-ranked UConn Huskies on Sunday, Nov. 12. Tip-off from Reynolds Coliseum is set for 3 p.m. on ABC, and the game is already sold out. Fans who are interested in purchasing tickets may do so on SeatGeek, the official fan-to-fan marketplace of the Wolfpack.

NC State women's basketball (2-0) earned a statement win in front of a sellout home crowd as it took down UConn (1-1) by a 92-81 score on Sunday afternoon inside of Reynolds Coliseum.

The victory marked NC State's first time beating a top-five team while unranked since knocking off No. 2 Notre Dame at home on Dec. 29, 2016 and its first top-five win in general since Jan. 20, 2022. The Wolfpack snapped a six-game losing streak to the Huskies and came out on top in the matchup for the first time since the 1998 Elite Eight.

Saniya Rivers highlighted the night with a career-high 33-point performance, the first time an NC State player has scored 30 or more points since Feb. 3, 2019. The Wilmington, N.C., native shot 11-of-19 from the field while adding 10 rebounds and five assists, the first 30/10/5 game in the Wes Moore era and her first career double-double.

Aziaha James (18) and Madison Hayes (10) also scored in double figures as did Zoe Brooks (12) off the bench for the second time in as many games in her Wolfpack career.

Following the first quarter, during which it shot 40 percent (6-of-15), the Wolfpack put together three 50+ percent shooting frames to average 56.8 percent (25-of-44) the rest of the game. NC State also out-rebounded UConn by 12 (41-29).

Fueled by Wolfpack Nation, NC State overcame multiple deficits in the first half to trail by just one (43-42) at the break. UConn went up by seven early, but the Pack brought it back within two on multiple occasions in the first quarter. The Huskies, however, ended the first frame on a 7-0 run to lead 25-16 after 10 minutes played.

The Pack remained resilient through that run and managed to tie it up (30-30) for the first time since opening tip at the 5:46 mark of the second quarter. NC State took its first lead of the game with 2:17 left in the half and went up by as many as three after a 6-0 run by James and Rivers, but the Huskies scored the last two buckets of the half to go back in front.

After tying the game three times throughout the opening minutes of the third quarter, the Wolfpack was able to regain the lead for good thanks to a three from Collins at the 5:47 mark. Rivers was able to eclipse her previous career-high of 22 points with a three at the 2:05 mark in the third that made it 62-55.

UConn put up two of the first three baskets in the final frame before NC State rattled off an 11-0 run that established a 75-61 lead at the 5:53 mark thanks to hot shooting from James and Rivers. The Wolfpack duo accounted for all of the team's points in that run. The Huskies never got closer than seven points down the stretch, and the Pack was able to close out the win from the free throw line.

NC State continues its four-game, season-opening homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 15 when it hosts Elon. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Phoenix is set for 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum, and the game will be streamed on ACCNX.

After jumping back into the AP Top 15, 14th-ranked NC State women's basketball (2-0) continues its season-opening home stand with a Wednesday night meeting with Elon (1-1).

Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Phoenix is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. Doors open at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on ACCNX, and live radio coverage will also be available on WKNC 88.1 FM in Raleigh and on the Varsity Network App.

SERIES HISTORY (NC State leads 13-1)
Wednesday marks the 15th overall meeting between NC State and Elon. This marks the fourth season in a row that the teams have faced off during the non-conference portion of their seasons.
Every matchup between the Wolfpack and the Phoenix has been a home game for NC State.

The teams met for the first time on Nov. 18, 2000 and most recently faced off in the second game of the Pack's 2022-23 season.
NC State has won six games in a row in the series with Elon. That streak started with a 70-57 win on Dec. 16, 2017.
Elon's lone victory in the series was a 60-66 win on Dec. 13, 2015. That game was played at Broughton High School during the Reynolds Coliseum renovation, so the Pack remains unbeaten against the Phoenix when playing in Reynolds.

NC State has a margin of victory as large as 44 (84-40 on Nov. 18, 2000) and as narrow as 13 (70-57 on Dec. 16, 2017 and 62-49 on Dec. 15, 2019).
NC State and Elon last played on Nov. 10, 2022 with the Pack securing the 34-point (89-55) victory in that contest.

No. 14 NC State women's basketball (3-0) pushed its win streak to three-straight victories on Wednesday evening with a 90-35 decision over in-state foe Elon (1-2) in Reynolds Coliseum.

Aziaha James led the way for the Wolfpack with 20 points, while Mimi Collins added 18 on a perfect eight-for-eight from the field in addition to 15 points from Madison Hayes. A strong offensive performance from NC State was aided by a career-best seven assists from Saniya Rivers, while Maddie Cox contributed to the Pack out-rebounding the Phoenix 57-20 by collecting a game-high nine rebounds.

The Pack got moving quickly, jumping out to a fast 7-0 run to open the game while forcing Elon into a timeout after just 1:31 of action. NC State used separate runs of 7-0, 15-0 and 14-0 in the opening two quarters to push its lead to as many as 30 in the first half, carrying a 44-14 lead into the halftime break.

Collins, Hayes and James had each already hit double digits in scoring by the time the Wolfpack made its way to the locker room for halftime, with Collins and James each matching Elon's halftime total of 14 points after the opening two periods while Hayes had totaled ten points at the break.

NC State's defense had an equally-productive showing in the first half, holding the Phoenix scoreless for a 6:49 stretch that ranged from the :05 mark in the first quarter to the 3:16 point in the second frame. The Pack forced Elon into three turnovers while limiting the Phoenix to a 1-of-15 (6.7%) shooting performance in the second quarter, resulting in just two points.

The two points allowed by the Pack marked the lowest in a quarter since NC State limited Wake Forest to a one-point second period in a 65-50 win in Winston-Salem on Jan. 8, 2017, while the 14 points surrendered to Elon marked the fewest given up by the Wolfpack in a half since Nov. 13, 2022, when NC State held Mount Saint Mary's to a 13-point first half in an 86-38 win.

The Wolfpack cruised comfortably in the second half, outscoring the Phoenix 46-21 over the final 20 minutes while stretching its lead to as many as 57 points at 90-33. NC State saw season-high totals of assists with 19, bench points with 29, paint points at 48 and second-chance points with 19. The Pack also matched its best free-throw percentage in program history, going a perfect 17-of-17 at the charity stripe to register a perfect 100 percent.

Having now won 11 straight non-conference games in Reynolds Coliseum, NC State will now shift its focus to the final leg of its four-game homestand with a Sunday afternoon matinee against Rhode Island on deck on Nov. 19. Tip-off for this weekend's tilt between the Wolfpack and Rams is slated for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

NC State women's basketball improved to 4-0 for the 10th time in 11 seasons of the Wes Moore era as it came from behind to defeat visiting Rhode Island 67-58 on Sunday afternoon.

The Wolfpack scored 14 of the final 16 points of the contest to go in front for good with 3:38 remaining in a game that featured seven lead changes. The Pack limited Rhode Island to 1-of-9 shooting over the final five minutes while shooting 5-of-7 itself in that same time span. NC State shot a blistering 72.7 percent (8-of-11) in the fourth quarter.

NC State had four players score in double figures Saniya Rivers (19), Aziaha James (17), Mimi Collins (10) and Zoe Brooks (10). Rivers had a near triple-double with a team-leading seven assists and six steals on the afternoon.

Collins led the team in rebounds with 11, her first double-double as a member of the Pack. She also hit the 1,000 career point mark, having scored 267 of those in her last two seasons at NC State.

In the first half, NC State dug itself out of a 10-point hole to trail by four (30-26) at the break. After taking a timeout with the score at 23-13 in Rhode Island's favor (9:02, 2Q), NC State scored on three possessions in a row and went on an 8-0 run to bring it back as close as two points in the second quarter. The Wolfpack held the Rams scoreless for nearly six minutes during that run.

At the start of the third quarter, NC State's paint attack sent it to the free throw line quite a few times to keep the team within striking distance. The team took a brief lead with 1:12 remaining in the third quarter, but the Rams hit a three to end the period to go back in front. NC State never trailed by more than three in the opening phases of the fourth quarter before going on its run to take the lead and close out the win.

NC State will play its first games away from home this coming week as it makes the trip to St. Thomas, USVI for the 2023 Paradise Jam. The Wolfpack will take on Kentucky on Thursday, Nov. 23, Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 24 and fifth-ranked Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 26 with all three contests set to be streamed on ESPN+.

No. 10 NC State women's basketball (5-0) led by double figures for almost the entirety of its 2023 Paradise Jam opener as it dominated Kentucky (2-3) by an 84-55 score on Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats scored the first bucket of the game, but the Wolfpack rallied off 15 unanswered points from there to establish a comfortable lead early that it never relinquished. NC State led by as many as 42 points (76-34 after three quarters).

Madison Hayes led four Wolfpack double-figure scorers with 15 points, shooting 5-of-6 overall and 3-of-4 from distance in the contest. Saniya Rivers added 13 points to go with her team-leading three steals, and River Baldwin (11 points) and Mimi Collins (10 points) also saw productive nights from the tip.

NC State's 54.8 percent shooting mark (34-of-62) was its highest percentage of the still-early season, and the Pack once again assisted on over half of its made buckets with 19 on the day. Aziaha James and Zoe Brooks each dished out five apiece, and James also led the Pack's dominant effort on the boards (45-28) with eight.

The Pack's newcomers also got valuable playing time with Mallory Collier (6 points) and Lizzy Williamson (4 points) setting new best marks in their NC State careers and Katie Peneueta making her Wolfpack debut. Brooks, Maddie Cox and Laci Steele also each posted six points apiece in a game that had all 12 Pack players see the court and 10 find the scoring column.

NC State hung 31 points on Kentucky in the first quarter and 55 points in the first half alone, its highest such mark in a 20-minute span of any of its five games this season. The Pack's 31-point advantage (55-24) at the break also beat out its previous season-best halftime lead. NC State shot 22-of-38 (.579) in the opening half alone and hit seven of its last eight field goal attempts of the second quarter to build up the comfortable lead.

NC State turns its attention to its second of three Paradise Jam games as it takes on Cincinnati on Friday. Tip-off in the first-ever meeting between the Wolfpack and the Bearcats is set for 3:15 p.m. EST (4:15 p.m. local time), and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Wolfpack women's basketball improved to 6-0 on the year with another dominant Paradise Jam victory, as the 10th-ranked NC State squad came out on top 79-45 in Friday afternoon's matchup with Cincinnati (2-3).

Madison Hayes once again led six double-figure Wolfpack scorers with 16 points and 12 rebounds in what was her second career double-double and her first of 2023-24. The senior guard knocked down 3-of-5 three pointers, and her rebound count tied her career high.

Aziaha James (13 points), Zoe Brooks (12 points), Laci Steele (11 points), River Baldwin (10 points) and Mallory Collier (10 points) joined her in double figures. It marked the Pack's first time this season with multiple freshmen tallying 10+ points in the same game, with Collier and Steele's totals setting new season highs and Brooks' mark tying her season best. The team's six double-figure scorers marked NC State's most in a game this year.

The teams traded buckets for the first few minutes of action, but NC State went on a 9-0 run to open up an early 19-10 lead at the 3:17 mark of the first quarter. The Pack ended up holding the Bearcats to 2-of-9 from the field in the final six minutes of the opening period and kept its foot on the gas pedal into the second where it limited Cincinnati to just eight points. NC State led by 28 (50-22) at halftime and never let the Bearcats get closer than 29 at any point in the second half.

As a team, NC State shot 43.8 percent (28-of-64) while limiting the Bearcats to 24.2 percent (16-of-66) from the field. The Pack finished the game with a +24 margin in points in the paint (34-10) and another double-digit margin on the boards (51-39).

NC State's final game in the 2023 Paradise Jam will be a top-10 matchup as it faces No. 3 Colorado on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off between the Wolfpack and the Buffaloes is set for 1 p.m. EST (2 p.m. local time), and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Tenth-ranked NC State women's basketball (7-0) picked up its second victory over a top-three opponent this season as it knocked off the third-ranked Colorado Buffaloes (6-1) 78-60 in Saturday afternoon's Paradise Jam finale.

After also defeating No. 2 UConn just 13 days ago, the Wolfpack has defeated two top-three teams in the same season four times in program history. It is the second-shortest span of time between two Wolfpack wins over such teams.

River Baldwin put together the best game of her career in the win, with her 24 points marking the most she's scored in 120 games across her five seasons. She also led the team on the boards with eight. She was named Paradise Jam Island Tournament MVP after averaging 15.0 points and shooting 76.2 percent (16-of-21) across the three Wolfpack wins.

Aziaha James (15 points), Madison Hayes (11 points) and Mimi Collins (10 points) also scored in double figures in another balanced attack by the Wolfpack. Saniya Rivers assisted on seven of the team's made baskets and was also named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team.

As was customary in all three of its Paradise Jam games, NC State set the tone early by building up a double-digit lead in the first quarter. The Pack held Colorado to just six points (3-of-17 shooting) and forced them into six turnovers in the opening period. NC State went up 9-0 quickly, with all of those points scored by Hayes and Baldwin, to force the Buffaloes to burn a timeout less than five minutes in.

NC State continued cruising in the early stages of the second quarter and led by as many as 23 points (29-6, 8:24), but the Buffaloes scored 20 points to the Pack's 12 from there to cut into NC State's lead. Colorado brought it within 11 (37-26, 1:26) late in the second quarter, but the Pack scored the final four of the half to take a 15-point lead (41-26) to the break.

NC State then outscored Colorado 22-14 in the third quarter to keep a comfortable cushion (63-40) and did not give the Buffaloes a chance to get back into the game in the fourth.

The Pack's 18-point margin tied as its second-largest victory over a top-five opponent in a total of 25 such wins in team history.

NC State returns to Raleigh for three home games in a row. The Wolfpack kicks off that home stretch with its inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge game against Vanderbilt, which is set for Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:15 p.m. on the ACC Network.

Fifth-ranked NC State women's basketball (8-0) handed Vanderbilt (7-1) its first loss of the season on Wednesday night in Reynolds Coliseum, knocking off the Commodores 70-62 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.

The victory wrapped up a perfect 8-0 November for the Pack, was the team's 13th non-conference home win in a row and extended the squad's home streak against unranked non-conference opponents to 56 games. Additionally, Wednesday marked 11th-year head coach Wes Moore's 250th victory at NC State.

The Pack was led by Saniya Rivers, who finished with a game-high 22 points, while Aziaha James, River Baldwin and Zoe Brooks also each finished in double figures with 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Baldwin also collected a team-best ten rebounds, securing her first double-double of the season. A strong offensive performance was aided by four assists from Brooks, while the Pack's defense forced Vanderbilt into 13 turnovers and blocked seven Commodore shots.

An evenly-played first 15 minutes of action saw neither the Wolfpack or Commodores extend a lead to anything greater than four points. The Pack held early edges of 15-11 and 18-14, while Vanderbilt never led by more than a single point.

NC State found its rhythm on both ends of the floor in the waning minutes of the second quarter, with the Pack using a 17-7 run to close the period. The Wolfpack stretched its advantage to as many as 11 points late in the second frame while proceeding to carry a 35-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

NC State got moving quickly after the break, opening the second half on a 12-6 spurt to pull away from the Commodores. Kicking off the third quarter with a made three-pointer by Aziaha James, the Pack grabbed a 12-point lead and pushed its edge to as many as 26 points in the second half at 62-36 in the fourth quarter.

The Commodores were able to bring the score within single digits late in the game, trimming NC State's lead to nine points with 2:13 left in the contest and then cutting it to eight with 1:02 left. Despite the late surge from Vanderbilt, the Wolfpack's 15-2 run that spanned from 3:29 in the third period to 8:07 in the fourth quarter proved to be too much to overcome.

Playing in front of another sold out Reynolds Coliseum crowd, fifth-ranked NC State women's basketball remained perfect at home and on the season with a 79-61 victory over visiting Illinois State.

The Wolfpack improved to 9-0 for the eighth time in its 50-season history as it also welcomed back a large group of former players and staff members from across all five decades.

Aziaha James' 16 points paced the Pack, with River Baldwin (14 points) and Mimi Collins (13 points) joining her in double figures. Madison Hayes, Zoe Brooks and Saniya Rivers each added nine points apiece as well, and all 12 available Pack players saw time in Sunday's win.

Baldwin was once again the team's leader in rebounds with her seven. Hayes had three of NC State's 10 offensive boards, and NC State finished the game with a +8 margin in that category.

The Pack used the opening phases of the second quarter to really separate itself and build up a double-figure distance that Illinois State would not overcome. NC State scored 12 of the first 14 points of the second period and held Illinois State to 1-of-5 shooting and four turnovers to force the Redbirds into using their first timeout. After starting the game by hitting only threes in the first quarter to stay within striking distance, Illinois State shot just 1-of-6 from three in the second as the Wolfpack carried a 14-point lead (39-25) into the break.

NC State shot 60 percent (9-of-15) in the third quarter to push its lead into the 20s on multiple occasions, and Illinois State got no closer than 13 points at any point in the second half. The team finished the game shooting just under 50 percent (32-of-66, .485) after putting up percentages of better than 50 in the first and third quarters.

The Wolfpack tied its season high in made three pointers with nine. James led the squad with three, and Brooks (2), Rivers (2), Collins (1) and Laci Steele (1) also contributed to the tally. NC State also took great care of the ball and had a season-low number of turnovers with only nine.

NC State hosts Liberty on Sunday, Dec. 10 for its last home game in the 2023 calendar year. Tip-off for the contest is set for 2 p.m. on ACCNX, and limited tickets remain available for sale through the NC State Ticket Office. The game against the Flames is the Wolfpack's annual Holiday Game, and all fans are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday sweater.
