The rivalry was hot at Dail Stadium Friday evening as the Pack and Tar Heels kept a close battle, with UNC taking home the win, 5-4.

The game started off with three batters up and three down in the first three innings for both teams. In the top of the fourth, UNC put two runs on the board after two singles got runners home.

The Wolfpack responded in the bottom half of the inning with a lead off homer from Hannah Goodwin. The hit was sophomore's eighth home run of the season. With one out, graduate Katlyn Pavlick singled down the left line and freshman Amanda Hasler was walked. Sophomore Taylor Ensley stepped into the box with two on and doubled down the right line to tie the game two all. The Pack wasn't done and took the lead after junior Kaylee Lambrecht hit an infield single, allowing Hasler to score. Senior Libby Whittaker then recorded a sacrifice fly, allowing Ensley to score and the Pack to hold a 4-2 lead at the end of the fourth.

The Tar Heels tied it back up in the top of the fifth after Alex Brown tripled down the right line, allowing one to score. Bri Stubbs then grounded out to MaKayla Marbury, bringing Brown home. The Pack made several attempts to regain the lead but fell short in the bottom half of the inning, leaving two on base.

UNC took the lead in the sixth after Brown singled through the left side, allowing one to score. NC State thought they tied it up in the bottom half of the inning after Brooklyn Lucero reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ensley to reach home. The call at the plate was later overturned after a challenge by UNC, ruling that Ensley was tagged before reaching the plate.

Freshman Madison Inscoe started in the circle for the Pack and pitched four innings before redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann entered. Weixlmann recorded one strikeout in her three innings.

The two teams return to Dail on Sunday April 23 for a double header. Game two of the series will begin at 12pm and game three will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two. Both games will be streamed on ACCNX.

The NC State softball team (16-31, 6-15) dropped the final two games of the series with UNC (23-25, 11-9) in front of a sellout crowd on Sunday at Dail Softball Stadium.

The capacity crowd marked the fifth-consecutive sellout for NC State's program dating back to the Apr. 14 series opener against Clemson, marking a new program record for the longest sellout streak in the 20-year history of NC State softball. The series sellout marked the second consecutive and first time in program history that back-to-back series have been sold out.

NC State 2, UNC 4
The Wolfpack fell in the series' second game, surrendering runs in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings.

The Pack got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, with a single from Rebecca Murray drove home Makayla Marbury to trim the Tar Heels' lead to 2-1.

NC State's second run came in the leadoff spot in the seventh inning, as a solo shot to right field from Kaylee Lambrecht cut North Carolina's advantage to 4-2. Lambrecht's second home run of the season was the only threat to the Tar Heels in the final frame, with UNC clinching the series in the opening game of the doubleheader. Rylee Wyman took the loss for the Wolfpack, allowing three runs and five hits over five innings of work while striking out three. Aisha Weixlmann tossed the final two innings of play for the Wolfpack, allowing one run while striking out one batter.

NC State 3, UNC 5
The two teams got off to a slow start but it was the Wolfpack that swung first and got on the board. In the bottom of the third the Pack recorded five hits, one of which was a homer from Hannah Goodwin that brought in two. NC State attempted to increase the score, but three were left on base at the conclusion of the inning.

The Tar Heels responded with a two run homer of their own from Kiesten Licea. After tying it up two all, freshman MaKayla Marbury drilled a ball to left field with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, regaining the lead for the Wolfpack.

With two outs on the board, Alex Brown recorded an inside the park homerun that brought in three to give the Tar Heels the 5-3 lead. Tar Heel ace Lilli Backes entered the circle in the bottom half of the frame in hopes of stopping the Wolfpack from scoring.

Freshman Madison Inscoe recorded four strikeouts in her seven innings in the circle. The game marked the ninth complete game in the circle for the Chesapeake, Va. native.

The Pack softball team beat Norfolk State, 10-1, Wednesday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

NC State started with a bang as sophomore Hannah Goodwin led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Graduate Rebecca Murray also singled, but immediately advanced to second on an error by the Spartans second baseman, which allowed Goodwin to score. Freshman Amanda Hasler slammed a ball to right field to reach first and allow Murray to reach third. With runners on the corners, Taylor Ensley took the batter's box and singled to bring Murray home. Shortstop MaKayla Marbury recorded her sixth double of the season and added an RBI to her season as Hasler scored. Junior Kaylee Lambrecht was the final batter for the Pack to record a hit in the first as she singled, allowing Ensley to reach home. The Wolkfpack finished the first inning with six hits and four runs to take an early lead.

Freshman pitcher Wynne Gore recorded her first strikeout of the afternoon in the top of the second. The start in the circle was the third of her freshman campaign.

At the conclusion of the second inning, all nine starters for the Pack recorded a hit on the afternoon, marking the first time that has happened this season.

The Spartans recorded one run on the afternoon, a solo bomb from Gabby Vaughn. The one hit was the first one hitter for the Wolfpack since 2022 when Maddie McPherson did it against the Spartans.

The NC State softball team split their doubleheader with East Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack honored its three seniors prior to game one Rebecca Murray, Katlyn Pavlick, and Libby Whittaker.

The Pack advances to 18-32 on the season and the Pirates move to 27-24.

NC STATE 4, ECU 2
The Pirates wasted no time taking the lead as the first two batters recorded a hit. Bailee Wilson recorded a sacrifice fly, allowing Taudre Sinnie to score to get ECU on the board first. Freshman right handed pitcher Madison Inscoe stopped them from scoring again as she recorded her first strikeout of the afternoon to bring up out three.

Freshman Amanda Hasler's bat was hot in the bottom of the third with two outs. After MaKayla Marbury singled and Rebecca Murray walked, Hasler hit a three run bomb to center to give NC State the 3-2 lead.

Inscoe picked up her second strikeout in the top of the fourth and finished the afternoon with four innings pitched, two strikeouts, and one batter walked.

The Pack continued the momentum on the offensive side of things as they added another run in the fourth. With two on base and one out, Marbury singled through the left side to bring Taylor Ensley home to increase the lead.

To start the fifth, redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle and recorded her first strikeout to end the top half of the inning. She finished the afternoon with two strikeouts and two innings pitched.

NC STATE 1, ECU 4
The Wolfpack brought the momentum from game one into game two as Goodwin led off with a single through the left side. She later advanced to second on a throwing error by the Pirates. The chance to get on the board was cut short after ECU picked up the third out to end the inning.

NC State tallied five hits by the end of the second inning and held a 1-0 lead over the Pirates. Freshman right handed pitcher Rylee Wyman started in the circle for the Pack and finished with 3.2 innings, four strikeouts, and one batter walked.

The Pirates found a weak spot in the Pack's defense as they recorded five hits in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs after a homer and double. With two outs, Weixlmann entered the circle and helped pick up the third out to stop the Pirates from increasing their lead.

The Pack struggled to regain momentum in the batter's box. Pavlick and Whittaker each hit a hard shot that was caught right before going over the outfield wall. Weixlmann finished game two with three innings, two strikeouts, and no batters walked.

The Wolfpack softball team fell to Pitt, 10-9, in eight innings Friday evening in game one of the series after the Panthers tied the game late in the bottom of the seventh.

Graduate outfielder Rebecca Murray was walked in the top of the first with one out and freshman catcher Amanda Hasler singled to left field to get her into scoring position. With runners on the corners, the opportunity for the Pack to score was cut short after the Panthers struck out the next two in the box.

Bats were hot in the top of the second for the Wolfpack as they took the lead. After Kaylee Lambrecht was walked by Pitt, senior Libby Whittaker singled to right to get two on with no outs. Junior Gracie Roberts then hit a sacrifice bunt to get Lambrecht to third and advance Whittaker to second. Freshman MaKayla Marbury took the batter's box and singled down the left line to bring Lambrecht home and take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Hannah Goodwin singled to shallow right field to load the bases with one out for Murray. With a 3-1 count, the graduate center fielder slammed the ball to left center to record the first grand slam of her collegiate career and give the Pack a 5-0 lead.

Pitt brought the score within one in the bottom half of the third inning after a solo homer from Yvonne Whaley and a three run home run by Amanda Ramierz. Right handed freshman pitcher Madison Inscoe struck out the final batter to end the third inning, picked up her first strikeout of the evening and leave the Panthers trailing by one. Inscoe pitched three innings and recorded one strikeout as redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann entered the circle in the bottom of the fourth.

Former Pitt player Katlyn Pavlick hit two home runs against her former team a lead off solo in the fifth and a two run bomb in the sixth. The graduate leads the Pack with 12 this season and this marked the second game this season she recorded two homers.

In the bottom half of the fifth, NC State recorded a 7-2-5 run down to get out number three and end the Panthers chance of minimizing their lead. Pitt recorded a grand slam of their own in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game nine all with two outs. After picking up out number three, the meeting was sent into an extra inning. NC State was unable to gain momentum offensively in the top of the eighth and the Panthers recorded a single to score in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

Offensively, the Pack had four record two hits throughout the evening Goodwin, Hasler, Pavlick, and Whittaker. Weixlmann finished the evening with 4.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts.

The Pack will return to Vartabedian Field Saturday to take on Pitt for a double header to complete the series. First pitch is set for 12pm and game two will begin at 4pm, with game two streamed on ACCN.

The NC State softball team concluded its season Saturday afternoon after falling to Pitt in a double header. The Wolfpack finished 18-35 overall, 6-18 in ACC play.

NC STATE 8, PITT 12
Pitt started off with a bang as they scored four in the bottom half of the first on back-to-back doubles. The Wolfpack responded in the top of the second with hot bats. After sophomore Kaylee Lambrecht walked, senior Libby Whittaker took the box and hit a hard ball past the left field wall to get the Pack on the board. Trailing by two, with one out and one on base, sophomore Hannah Goodwin took her second chance in the box and slammed a ball past right field to tie the game four all. After Pitt picked up out number two and walked two, sophomore Taylor Ensley stepped up to the plate and singled through the left side. The hit allowed Rebecca Murray to score and give NC State the lead, 5-4.

Right handed freshman pitcher Madison Inscoe entered the circle in the bottom of the second. Pitt decided to match NC State's five runs in the bottom half of the frame as a walk with bases loaded brought one home and Rachael Fuerst hit a grand slam. The Panthers finished the second inning leading 9-5.

Inscoe pitched three innings for the Pack and picked up a strikeout before redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann entered the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Panthers scored two more in the bottom of the fifth after Sarah Seamans hit a two run homer.

To start the Pack off in the top of the sixth, freshman MaKayla Marbury hit a solo shot to center field to minimize the Panther's lead. Freshman catcher Amanda Hasler reached first on a fielding error by Pitt's first baseman. The Wolfpack's chance of minimizing the deficit was cut short after the next two popped up to the outfield.

The Wolfpack found a weak spot in the Panther's defense as Gracie Roberts singled through the left side with two outs and one on base. Marbury then reached on an error and advanced to second, allowing Whittaker and Roberts to score to minimize the Panther's lead to four. Goodwin stepped into the box for the fourth time in the meeting and singled up the middle to get Marbury in scoring position. The Panthers grabbed out three to end the game.

NC STATE 3, PITT 9
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a homer from Sarah Seamans brought two across the plate.

The Wolfpack had hot bats in the top of the second as Whittaker singled to left and Roberts singled up the middle to get on base. With two outs and two on base, Murray nailed a no-brainer to left to pick up her eighth homer of the season. Goodwin immediately singled to left following the home run, but the Panthers grabbed out number three to end the top half of the frame.

Pitt responded to NC State taking the lead by adding five runs to the board in the bottom of the second. A two run homer, a single, wild pitch, and an error allow the Panthers to cross the plate. The Pack brought in Inscoe with two outs in hopes of ending the Panther's scoring run.

Weixlmann started in the circle and finished with 1.2 innings pitched, one strikeout, and one batter walked.

The Panthers added two more runs in the fourth inning, increasing their score to nine. The Wolfpack made several attempts to minimize their lead, but came up short in the end.
