The Pack softball team defeated Syracuse, 3-2, Friday afternoon at Skytop Stadium.

The Wolfpack (14-25, 5-9) started off with a bang as sophomore Hannah Goodwin slammed a ball over the left field wall to record her fifth homer of the season. The Pack finished the top half of the first with a 1-0 lead over the Orange.

NC State was hot to open the third as junior Gracie Roberts hit her second career home run to center field to lead off. Freshman MaKayla Marbury then singled up the middle and later made her way to third in hopes of adding a third run to the board. Amanda Hasler and Katlyn Pavlick were then walked, loading the bases for Haley Haislip. With a 2-2 count, the junior grounded a ball to third and the ball made it to first before her to bring up the third out. The Pack ended the inning with two hits.

The Orange attempted to get one in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, but after singling to left, Kelly Breen attempted to make it to second. She was out at second after Rebecca Murray threw to Taylor Ensley who tagged her out.

After the Pack picked up two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Orange managed to get two into scoring position after a double by Breen. Yamila Evans took the box for Syracuse and lined out to Marbury at short, ending their chance of getting on the board.

Murray led the team off in the seventh inning and drilled a ball over the left field wall to pick up her sixth homer of the season. The hit put the Wolfpack up 3-0 to help secure the win in game two of the series. Hasler took her fourth shot in the box with one out and singled up the middle. Fellow freshman Gabi Wilson entered to pinch run, but was left on base after the Orange picked up two more outs.

The Orange started the bottom of the seventh by getting hit by a pitch and hitting an infield single to get two on base with no outs. Syracuse ended up putting two runs on the board, but a fly out to Katlyn Pavlick in left ended their chances of winning or sending it to extra innings.

Right handed pitcher Aisha Weixlmann pitched all seven innings and recorded five strikeouts on the day. The redshirt-junior moves to 6-7 on the season in the circle.

The NC State softball team dropped the series finale with Syracuse, 8-0, Saturday afternoon.

The Orange jumped out to an early lead after scoring two in the bottom of the first. A single to left by Jude Padilla brought two across the plate to give Syracuse the lead.

Syracuse hit back-to-back two-run homers in the bottom of the second to increase the lead to six. After a triple and a single in the bottom of the third, the Orange added two more runs to the board to take a 8-0 lead.

The Pack struggled to build momentum at the plate as only three got on base throughout the meeting.

To open the third inning, junior Gracie Roberts was hit by a pitch to lead off the Pack. Unfortunately the Orange's defense was unbeatable as they grabbed three straight outs to end the Wolfpack's chance of getting into scoring position.

The Pack had three enter the circle throughout the afternoon freshman Madison Inscoe, redshirt-junior Aisha Weixlmann, and freshman Wynne Gore. All three recorded 1.1 innings in the circle and Gore picked up one strikeout in her time.

The Wolfpack softball team defeated USC-Upstate, 2-0, Tuesday evening at Dail Stadium.

The Pack was defensively paced by freshman pitcher Rylee Wyman who recorded her first career shutout in her first complete game. Wyman finished the evening with three strikeouts and only walked one. The shutout is the second for the Pack this season and the first by a freshman since 2019.

The two teams went scoreless through the top of the fifth, but both teams recorded hits throughout. Graduate center fielder Rebecca Murray tallied the Pack's first hit of the evening in the bottom of the first with a single up the middle.

The Spartans got runners into scoring position in both the third and fourth inning, but were unable to cross home and take a lead.

Sophomore Hannah Goodwin led the Pack offensively as she recorded a double down the right line in the bottom of the third before drilling a ball over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the fifth. The home run brought in two runs and was the sixth of the season for the third baseman.

Goodwin's homer was only the second off Spartan pitcher Alyssa Kelly this season.

In the top of the sixth, the Wolfpack recorded a double play as Peyton Darnell grounded to Goodwin at third. Goodwin then threw to Kaylee Lambrecht, who was covering second, to get Aime Johnson out before throwing to Haley Haislip at first to get Darnell out. The double play was the sixth for NC State this season.

In the bottom of the sixth, junior Gracie Roberts recorded her first career triple after she drilled a ball down the right line. She was unable to get home after the Spartans picked up the third out.

The NC State softball team dropped a thrilling first two games to Clemson. After a rain delay in game one, the seventh inning was played Saturday prior to game two.

The first two games of the series were sellouts for the Wolfpack, with game two registering an attendance of 758.

NC State 1, Clemson 4 (8 inn.)
Freshman pitcher Rylee Wyman submitted another impressive performance in the circle, holding the Clemson offense scoreless through four innings. She finished the day with two punch outs and one walk, her second straight game allowing only one free trip to first. Wyman provided the Wolfpack with 11 straight shutout innings dating back to her complete game Tuesday against USC Upstate.

After loading the bases in the top of the opening frame, Wyman settled in and escaped the inning while holding the Clemson offense at bay. After recording her first strikeout in the second, Wyman sat down the Tiger's utility star Valerie Cagle in the third inning. This was just the 15th time the CU's leading batter has struck out all season.

The NC State offense broke up Cagle's no-hit bid in the fourth inning thanks to a one-out double by Rebecca Murray. Amanda Hasler followed up with a single to put runners on the corners. After Gabi Wilson entered as a pinch runner on first, Katlyn Pavlick supplied an RBI single to send Murray in to score the first run of the game and take a 1-0 lead on the Tigers.

Clemson responded in the fifth inning with an RBI double that tied the contest. Aisha Weixlmann then stepped into the circle for the Wolfpack, picking up a strikeout and keeping the game knotted 1-1.

The Wolfpack picked up its fourth hit in the sixth inning, courtesy of a leadoff single to right by Hannah Goodwin. Nadia Sykes entered as a pinch runner and was sent to second after Murray reached on a fielder's choice. Clemson challenged the play but Sykes was determined to be safe at second thanks to a throwing error by Cagle.

After a 22 hour delay, the two teams started the top of the seventh inning at 2:02 pm on Saturday. Weixlmann picked up back-to-back strikeouts after facing only three batters in the top half of the inning. Sophomore Taylor Ensley singled up the middle to start the Pack off in the bottom half of the inning the opportunity to score was cut short after the Tigers got the next three batters out and forced an eighth inning.

The Tigers scored three in the eighth after two singles allowed runners to cross home and took a 4-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Goodwin was walked by her former team to lead off. With one out, Hasler stepped up to the plate and reached on an error by the Tigers. Pavlick took her fourth shot in the box and singled up the middle to load the bases with two outs for freshman MaKayla Marbury. She reached on a fielder's choice, but Pavlick was tagged out at second to end the game in Clemson's favor.

NC State 3, Clemson 6
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in game two as Cagle drilled a ball to left center to record a two run homer in the top half of the first. The Pack responded with hot bats in the bottom half as they recorded five hits.

To lead off, Goodwin singled and was called out after Murray reached on a fielder's choice. Hasler then took the box and singled, allowing Murray to reach second and then advance to third on a throwing error by the Tigers second baseman. With runners on the corners, Pavlick doubled down the left line, allowing Murray to get the Pack on the board and Hasler to get to third. Marbury then singled down the right line, allowing Hasler to score and Pavlick to advance. Taylor Ensley singled to the pitcher, loading the bases. Unfortunately that was the end of the Pack's scoring drive as the Tigers picked up the final out as they caught Bailey Edwards swinging.

Things were quiet for both teams through the third inning. With one out in the bottom of the fourth, junior Kaylee Lambrecht nailed a ball past the outfield to record her first homer of the season and give the Pack the 3-2 lead over the Tigers. After Goodwin was walked, Hasler stepped up to the plate and was hit by a pitch for the 13th time this season. The Wolfpack's opportunity to increase the lead by more was cut short after the Tigers grabbed out number three.

The Tigers regained the lead in the top of the fifth as a homer by Caroline Jacbson brought home three. After facing seven batters, the Pack had Aisha Weixlmann enter the circle for freshman Madison Inscoe who shifted over to first base. Weixlmann struck out the first batter faced to bring up the third out and stop the Tigers from increasing the score any more.

Cagle, the ACC leader in homers, drilled a solo shot past center field to make it a three run lead in the bottom of the seventh. Weixlmann picked up her fourth strikeout of the game to bring up the bottom half of the seventh. The Wolfpack was unable to minimize the Tiger's score, ending game two in the Tigers favor again.

The Wolfpack softball team stunned No. 8 Clemson, 7-5, Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium in front of a sold out crowd. The win is the first over a top 25 opponent since 2021 when the Pack defeated then No. 6 Florida State, as well as then No. 16 LSU and it is the first win over the Tigers in series history.

NC State took a 4-0 lead in the first that was started by sophomore Hannah Goodwin. She started the scoring run with a solo shot to center field against her former team as the leadoff hitter for the Pack. With two on base, freshman Amanda Hasler took her chance in the box and drilled a ball to right center to record her eighth homer of the season.

It wasn't until the third inning that the Tigers found some momentum in the batter's box. Valerie Cagle hit a three run homer to bring the Tigers within one of the Pack. NC State brought in a pitching change and had Aisha Weixlmann enter the circle. With one out, Alia Logoleo hit a sacrifice fly to get out number two, but Caroline Jacobsen scored to tie it four all.

The Wolfpack continued to battle with the No. 8 Tigers and picked up three more runs in the fifth. Katlyn Pavlick, a graduate left fielder, drilled a ball past the outfield wall to tally her ninth homer of the season. The hit brought three across home plate to increase the Wolfpack's run total to seven.

Weixlmann and the Pack defense held the Tigers scoreless in the sixth, but Clemson managed to score one in the top of the seventh to make it a two run deficit. With bases loaded, Weixlmann struck out the next batter and Goodwin recorded out number three to end the game, shocking the Tigers.

Clemson brought in three pitcher's throughout the afternoon -- starting with Reagan Spencer, then Brooke McCubbin, and finally Cagle in the bottom of the sixth. The last time the Tigers had three pitchers enter the circle in a single game was against Florida State on April 6.

Pavlick, Goodwin, and Rebecca Murray all tallied two hits in the meeting, while Weixlmann led defensive efforts with five strikeouts.

The Pack improves to 16-28 overall, 6-12 in ACC play. Despite the loss in game three, Clemson claimed the series and advances to 40-5 overall, 14-4 in ACC play.

NC State will return to Dail Stadium on Friday April 21 as they host UNC for the next conference series.
