anyone know if the interim will be considered? I'm guessing not, based on qualifications you probably want in a head coach...

The Wolfpack softball team defeated N.C. A&T, 8-2, Wednesday evening in Dail Stadium. The Pack hit three home runs in the bottom of the sixth to help secure the win.

The Pack wasted no time Wednesday as they got the first three Aggie batters out. To open the bottom of the first, graduate Rebecca Murray reached first on an error by A&T. Freshman MaKayla Marbury and Amanda Hasler both doubled to left field, with Hasler's hit bringing in two to give NC State the early lead.

Despite A&T getting one on base in the top of the second, they were called for runner interference forcing out number three.

In the bottom of the second with one out, Murray took her second chance in the box. After seeing one pitch, the outfielder slammed a ball over the center field wall to give the Pack a 3-0 run. The next two batters were caught out to end the inning.

Both teams went scoreless through the fourth but A&T scored their first run in the top of the fifth after a first pitch homer from Makayla Layton. The Wolfpack responded by getting the next three batters out.

The bottom of the sixth secured the win for the Wolfpack after they recorded three homers. Hannah Goodwin led the team off with a first pitch bomb over the left field wall and with one out, Taylor Ensley slammed a ball past center field wall to record her sixth homer of the season. Junior Haley Haislip then doubled to right center field to get one base. After the Aggies got the second out, Murray singled to shortstop and Nadia Sykes, who pinch ran for Haislip, scored to make it 6-1. Freshman MaKayla Marbury took her fourth shot in the box and hit a two RBI bomb that just stayed fair, down the left line to make it a 8-1 game. The Aggies were unable to stop the Pack as Hasler then singled down the left line before A&T got the last out.

To open the seventh inning, Jocelyn Bennett recorded the Aggies second homer of the evening to minimize the Pack's lead to six. NC State got the next three batters out to end the game 8-2 and pick up their 12th win of the season.

Right fielder Ellie Goins caught the third out after Tech thought they had a home run, but she got it right in front of the fence to stop them from increasing the score.

Inscoe finished the afternoon with four strikeouts and only one batter walked through seven innings. She added three assists, while Hasler and Haislip each tallied five putouts.

The Pack brought in a pitching change in the second and had Aisha Weixlmann enter the circle. NC State held LSU scoreless in the second and third innings.

NC State softball is still well below .500 on the season, and while there's been some good, there has also been plenty of bad and ugly.

It's safe to say, the Wolfpack has had lots of struggles recently. With a long homestand coming up, let's analyze just what is going on and how the team can improve while here in Raleigh.

Finally, junior right-hander Brooklyn Lucero has made some appearances since receiving a pacemaker in April of last year. She has pitched in two games thus far and appeared to pinch hit several times, even recording a hit in the game against Radford. It is unclear how her role will change, but it appears she has recovered enough to play.

Up Next

The Pack faces Syracuse in upstate New York before hosting that 12-game homestand in Dail Softball Stadium. While every game is important, the series against North Carolina is extra essential from April 21-23. Last year, the Pack lost the series 2-1 against the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill but has home-field advantage this season as NC State tries to continue its apparent dominance against its rival.

NC State hits the road for the last series of the season to face Pitt in Pennsylvania. The matchup will be personal for Pavlick but paramount for the Pack in terms of ACC Tournament seeding.

The NC State softball team fell to Syracuse, 4-2, in game one of the series Thursday evening in New York.

Both teams got off to a slow start, but Syracuse took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Pack got runners in scoring position on several occasions, but Syracuse picked up the third out to stop them from scoring.

Syracuse scored its second run in the bottom of the fourth after Angie Ramos doubled, allowing Laila Alves to score.

Freshman Amanda Hasler was walked in three consecutive plate appearances, every time with two outs on the board.

MaKayla Marbury picked up the Pack's first hit of the evening in the top of the second when she hit an infield single. In the same inning, Taylor Ensley singled to center field but was later caught stealing. Sophomore Hannah Goodwin also recorded a hit after she singled to left field in the top of the third.

Syracuse scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-0 after a sacrifice bunt and a single brought people across home plate.

To start the seventh inning, Ellie Goins was walked and Rebecca Murray singled up the middle to get two on base, later advancing on a wild pitch. Goodwin recorded a sacrifice fly to get Goins home and get the Pack on the board. After a groundout, Katlyn Pavlick singled to left with two outs and brought Murray home to minimize the Orange's lead to two.

In the circle, freshman Madison Inscoe pitched four innings and picked up one strikeout. Fellow freshman Rylee Wyman entered the circle in the bottom of the fifth and pitched the final three innings for the Wolfpack.
