The NC State softball team finished the weekend off on a high note after defeating Purdue, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

Graduate Rebecca Murray decided to take a swing at the fourth pitch thrown her way. She slammed a ball past the center field wall to record her first homer of the season and in a Wolfpack jersey. She gave the Pack a 1-0 advantage to start the game.

Fellow graduate Katlyn Pavlick singled up the middle to get on base, but got out on a double play shortly after. The Pack finished the top of the first with two hits and one run.

Freshman pitcher Madison Inscoe recorded two strikeouts in the bottom of the first to help maintain the Pack's lead. The Boilermakers' recorded two hits in the bottom of the first, but were unable to cross home.

The two teams battled back and forth through the fifth. Purdue had Kyndall Bailey cross home plate in the bottom of the fifth to tie it one all.

In the top of the sixth and one out, Inscoe stepped up to the plate. She drilled a ball out of left field on the second pitch thrown her way and gave the Wolfpack a 2-1 advantage.

After Hannah Goodwin and Kaylee Lambrecht were walked, Gracie Roberts entered to pinch run for Goodwin. With one out, two on base, and a 2-1 count, Taylor Ensley recorded a single up the left line. She advanced to second on a throw and Roberts scored making it a 3-1 game.

Freshman catcher Amanda Hasler then recorded a sac fly, allowing Lambrecht to cross home and the Pack to lead 4-1 in the top of the sixth.

The Boilermakers entered the bottom of the sixth trailing by three runs. After getting bases loaded with no outs, Kiersen George popped it up to Marbury to record the first out. The next two batters popped up to Lambrecht at second base and the inning was retired.

The first two batters up to the plate for Purdue in the bottom of the seventh recorded homers to bring them within one run of the Wolfpack. The Boilermakers were unable to get past the Wolfpack's defense after recording back-to-back outs and junior Haley Haislip recorded an unassisted out at first base to end the game.

Inscoe finished the game pitching all seven innings and recorded three strike outs. She pitched eight consecutive no hit innings (four against Iowa on Saturday, four against Purdue on Sunday) for the Wolfpack.

The NC State softball team (3-7) picked up a 11-3 win over in-state foe Elon (4-6) on Tuesday evening, picking up its third-straight win over the Phoenix dating back to the 2020 season.

Serving as NC State's first midweek contest of the 2023 campaign, the Wolfpack broke the ice in the bottom of the second frame when a bases-loaded walk drawn by Rebecca Murray scored Taylor Ensley to move the Pack ahead 1-0.

The Wolfpack wasted no time building on its early lead, as ensuing batter MaKayla Marbury then fired a grand slam over the left-field fence to push the Pack's lead to 5-0. Marbury's home run was her second of the season, with the first coming in NC State's Feb. 12 loss at Arizona. Her four-run shot was additionally the Wolfpack's first grand slam of its 2023 slate.

The Pack's trademark 'Home Run Mindset' reappeared in the bottom half of the third inning, with Ensley leading off the frame by sending a solo home run over the left-center wall to stretch NC State's lead to 6-0. After Amanda Hasler doubled to right field later in the inning, Bailey Edwards entered as a pinch runner and was then moved to third base on a flyout. Edwards proceeded to score on a wild pitch, with NC State moving ahead 7-0 on the miscue from the Phoenix.

Elon picked up its first run in the top of the fourth after Payton Swart crossed home plate after Bella Devesa flied out to right field. The Phoenix then picked up their last two runs in the top of the fifth after Claudia Penny singled up the middle.

Graduate Katlyn Pavlick drilled a ball past the left-field wall in the bottom of the fifth to tally three RBI's and increase the Pack's lead to seven. Three batters later, Libby Whittaker singled down the left field line, bringing Nadia Sykes across the plate to end the game 11-3.

The Wolfpack's 11 runs were the most in a single game this season, in addition to a season best three home runs.

Freshman Madison Inscoe picked up her third win in the circle for the Pack and added three more no hit innings to her record.

The Pack returns to Dail Stadium on Thursday Feb. 23 at 6pm for the first game of the Wolfpack Classic against East Tennessee State. Gates will open one hour prior to first pitch and the game will be broadcast on ACCNX.

The NC State softball team (3-8) opened its five-game slate in the Wolfpack Classic with a 5-0 loss to East Tennessee State (1-9) on Thursday evening at Dail Stadium.

The Buccaneers struck first in the top half of the second inning after a bases-loaded single from Jasmine Sanchez drove home a pair of runs. Sanchez's hit was met with a throwing error that advanced a third runner home, giving East Tennessee State an early 3-0 edge.

The Buccaneers' offensive attack continued in the fifth inning when a throwing error allowed for Sanchez to reach second base, with the Sanchez later scoring on an RBI single from leadoff batter Riley Nayadley to push East Tennessee State ahead 4-0.

The Buccaneers tacked on a fifth run in the sixth frame, as a two-out triple from MaKayla Strickland drove home Makenzie Henderson who drew a leadoff walk grew East Tennessee State's lead to 5-0.

Despite struggling in the batter's box, NC State's starting pitcher Rylee Wyman alongside a relief effort from Aisha Weixlmann limited the Buccaneers to just six hits on the evening.

Wyman was the pitcher of record for the Pack, dropping her record in the circle to 0-4 while East Tennessee State's Brianna Bailey went the distance in the win to improve to 1-3 on the season.

NC State will be back in action for the second day of the Wolfpack Classic on Friday, Feb. 24 as the Wolfpack will welcome Penn to Dail Stadium at 3 p.m. and will face East Tennessee State for the second time of the weekend at 5:30 p.m. Both games are slated to be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.

The 'Homerun Mindset' was in full effect on day two of the Wolfpack Classic as NC State picked up two straight wins.

The Pack set a season high in runs scored (15) and homeruns (6) in a single game. The last time NC State scored 15 runs was in March of 2022 at UNC. It has been 10 years since the Pack hit six homers in a game, as the last time was April 27, 2013 against Boston College.

NC State 15, Penn 6 (5 inn.)
Penn wasted no time getting on the board as the fifth batter singled up the left line bringing one across home. The Quakers attempt to take a larger lead was cut short after the next batter grounded out to shortstop MaKayla Marbury.

With one out, Marbury stepped up to the plate and drilled a ball past the left field fence to tie the game, one all. The hit was her second solo homer this season and third overall. Graduate Katlyn Pavlick doubled up the left line to record her third double of the season. The bottom of the first was retired after Taylor Ensley lined out to left field.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second but the bottom of the third allowed the Pack take the lead. Marbury singled up the middle and Pavlick doubled to center field with one out to get two in scoring position. Madison Inscoe was the fourth batter up for NC State and reached on an error by the Quakers infield, allowing Marbury to score. Ensley, the Pack's designated player, stepped up to the plate with one out and two on base. On the second pitch thrown her way, she sent a ball past the center field wall to record her second home run of the season.

Penn brought in a pitching change hoping to stop the Wolfpack's scoring burst, but were unable to slow their momentum. Freshman Amanda Hasler stepped up to the plate and doubled down the right line to add two more runs to the board. Alaina Smith stepped in the box and reached first on an error by the Quakers left field. NC State finished the third inning with six runs and five hits.

Penn attempted to minimize the Wolfpack's lead, but were unable to find a weak spot in the Pack's defense.

Inscoe recorded a leadoff home run to start the bottom half of the fourth. Ensley drilled a second ball past the centerfield wall to record her third home run of the season and give the Pack a 9-1 lead over the Quakers.

Penn managed to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Bella Fiorentino hit a ball past the center field fence to record a two RBI homer and minimize the Pack's lead to six. The Quakers brought in one more run before Rebecca Murray retired the inning after catching a line drive.

The bottom of the fourth and fifth saw three home runs for the Pack, one being a grand slam from Hasler, which ended the game.

NC State 8, ETSU 2
The Buccaneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first, but the Wolfpack maintained the momentum from game one of the afternoon.

With two outs, Ellie Goins stepped up to the plate and hit a ball down the left line. Her double brought Hannah Goodwin home and allowed the Pack to get on the board, trailing by one.

Inscoe entered the circle for the Wolfpack's second game of the afternoon. To end the top half of the third inning, she recorded her fourth strikeout to set a new single game career high. She finished the evening with seven strikeouts, the most by a NC State pitcher in a game this season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Hasler hit a lead off solo homer to tie the game 2-2. The hit was her second home run of the day.

ETSU made several attempts to regain the lead after the Pack tied it up, but they were unsuccessful.

Ensley recorded her third homer of the day, this time bringing Smith home with her. Three batters later, Goins stepped into the box and drilled a ball past left field to record her first homer of the season.

Goodwin recorded the Pack's final two RBI's of the day when she singled to center field, bringing Ensley and Inscoe across the plate.

The Wolfpack finished the second game of the day with eight runs on nine hits and no errors.

After over three hours of play, the Wolfpack softball team dropped the finale of the Wolfpack Classic after falling short to James Madison, 14-11, in eight innings.

The Dukes wasted no time getting on the board as Hannah Shifflet hit a home run of the first pitch of the game. JMU later recorded two doubles to increase the lead to four.

Rylee Wyman entered the circle for the Pack at the start of the second. She faced four batters , with one strike out before retiring the top of the inning.

The bottom of the fourth opened with two walks for the Wolfpack. After Madison Inscoe took second and Taylor Ensley took first, Hannah Goodwin stepped into the box. She swung at the first pitch thrown and drilled it over the outfield wall for a three run homer. The hit was Goodwin's second homer in less than 24 hours.

Freshman Nadia Sykes stepped into the box and hit a ball in foul territory on the right side, but the ball rolled back into play allowing her to reach first. Her hit allowed Ellie Goins, who was at second, to score and tie the meeting four all. The Pack ended the second inning with four runs and two hits.

JMU scored two more in the top of the third after an error by the Wolfpack and a single by Kate Carrier brought Bella Hensler home.

Two outs had nothing on Taylor Ensley in the bottom of the third as she stepped in the box and drilled the second pitch thrown her way past the outfield wall. The homer was the fifth in five days for the sophomore.

NC State struggled defensively in the second half of the game, as they picked up an error in both the fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Dukes walked Katlyn Pavlick and Ensley singled up the middle. Both Pack runners advanced to the next base on a pass ball by JMU. Alissa Humphrey walked Goodwin before hitting Amanda Hasler with a pitch, giving the Wolfpack a free run. NC State scored a second in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch by Humphrey. The Pack finished the fifth trailing the Dukes, 9-7.

The Dukes doubled down the left line in the top of the sixth to increase the lead back to four. Wyman struck out the last batter faced to end the top half of the inning and the Pack stepped back up to the plate to attempt to minimize the Dukes lead. After walking two, Inscoe stepped into the box and singled to left field, later advancing to second on the Dukes' throw. The Pack finished the inning trailing JMU by two once again.

The Wolfpack held the Dukes scoreless in the top of the seventh and retired the inning after a run down that ended with Wyman tagging out the runner.

Hasler started the Pack's attempt to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with a single to right field. Fellow freshman Ellie Goins stepped into the box and drilled the second pitch thrown her way past the outfield wall. Her two run homer tied the game 11-all. NC State was unable to take the lead so the meeting went into an eighth inning.

JMU wasted no time taking back the lead as a single down the left line brought one home. With one on base, Hannah Hennessey hit a homer to left field, giving JMU the 14-11 lead.

After retiring the top half of the inning, the Pack managed to get two on base but was unable to score after two strikeouts.

Ensley and Hasler led the bat with two hits on four at bats each, while Goodwin finished with three RBI's.
