The Virginia Tech women's basketball team (14-4, 6-1) returns to the court on Sunday afternoon when they take on fourth-ranked NC State (17-2, 8-0) in a matchup of the top teams in the ACC.

The Hokies defeated rival Pitt 75-65 Thursday behind four scorers in double figures including center Elizabeth Kitley who scored a game-high 27 points. Tech has reeled off three consecutive victories to reach the 6-1 mark in conference play, the best start to the ACC season in program history.

The Wolfpack earned an impressive 68-59 comeback victory over No. 3 Louisville Thursday at home. Three State players scored in double figures led by Diamond Johnson's 16 points off the bench.

• Virginia Tech is 2-23 all-time against NC State. Last season Tech earned the program's highest ranked win ever when they beat the second-ranked Wolfpack 83-71 in OT on Jan. 28, 2021 at Cassell Coliseum. In that game, the Hokies tied an NCAA record scoring 28 points in OT and Aisha Sheppard's 18 alone is the most ever by a single player in an OT session.

The fourth-ranked NC State women's basketball team (17-2, 8-0 ACC) will round out its stretch of three home games in a row on Sunday afternoon when it welcomes Virginia Tech (14-4, 6-1 ACC) to Reynolds Coliseum.

The matchup between the Wolfpack and the Hokies is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip on the ACC Network, and radio broadcasters Andrew Sanders and Ernie Myers will also have the call on WKNC 88.1 FM in Raleigh.

Tickets for Sunday's game are sold out. NC State has sold out six games this season, including already-played contests against No. 1 South Carolina, No. 19 UNC, No. 16 Duke and No. 3 Louisville and its upcoming Feb. 20 Senior Day game against Syracuse.

SERIES HISTORY (NC State leads 23-2)
Sunday's game marks the 26th meeting between NC State and Virginia Tech. The teams have met at least once every season since 2004-05, which was the Hokies' first year in the ACC.
NC State is a perfect 11-0 against Virginia Tech at home.
Each of the last three matchups between the two teams in Raleigh have been decided by single digits.
The Hokies have just two victories in the all-time series, with their most recent win coming in the teams' second meeting of the 2020- 21 regular season. Virginia Tech won that Jan. 28, 2021 overtime game by an 83-71 score on their home floor to snap the Pack's seven-game winning streak in the series.
NC State won the most recent meeting between the squads which came in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced changes to its women's basketball schedule today, including a rescheduled game as well as adjusted tip-off times and television designations for NC State.

Following the ACC's modified 2021-22 COVID-19 Game Rescheduling Policy, NC State's road game against Notre Dame (originally scheduled for Jan. 9) has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 1. The contest will tip off at 7 p.m. from South Bend, Ind., and will air on ACCNX.

The tip-off time and television network for NC State's upcoming road game at North Carolina have been finalized. The Wolfpack and the Tar Heels will play at 4 p.m. on Jan. 30, with that game nationally televised on the ACC Network.

In addition, the game time for NC State's Feb. 10 road game at Boston College has been moved up to 6 p.m.

Thursday is the second of two regular-season dates between NC State and UNC. Neither team has swept the regular-season meetings since the 2017-18 campaign. That year, the Wolfpack won both regular-season matchups and beat the Tar Heels in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

UNC owns a 29-19 advantage in the series when playing in Chapel Hill. NC State's last road win inside Carmichael Arena was on Feb. 24, 2019, a game that the Pack won by a 74-69 score in the teams' second meeting of the 2018-19 regular season.

SERIES HISTORY (Notre Dame leads 7-2)
Tuesday's game marks the 10th overall between NC State and Notre Dame. Prior to last season's matchup being canceled due to COVID protocols in the Fighting Irish program, the teams had faced off at least once a year since Notre Dame joined the ACC in 2013-14.
The Wolfpack has made three previous trips to South Bend and is 1-2 in those games.
NC State earned its first-ever road win against Notre Dame in the last matchup between the two squads. The Wolfpack won a 34-point game over the Fighting Irish in January of 2020.
The Wolfpack's only other win in the series was when the team upset second-ranked Notre Dame at home on Dec. 29, 2016, winning by a 70-62 score after never trailing in that outing.
Tuesday's contest marks the sixth time that NC State and Notre Dame will meet as a pair of ranked squads. NC State is 0-5 in the previous such contests. The Wolfpack has only been the higher-ranked team in one of those games, which was also its first-ever meeting against Notre Dame (No. 8 Wolfpack vs. No. 14 Fighting Irish on Nov. 21, 1996).
Notre Dame has been ranked in every matchup between the squads except the most recent one. In that Jan. 2020 Wolfpack win, NC State was ranked ninth and Notre Dame was unranked.
