Schedule release from website:

The Icepack's 29 game regular season schedule features their toughest non-league slate yet plus a renewal of our great ACCHL rivalries. The three time defending ACCHL champions open their season at home against UNC-Chapel Hill then take to the road to face ACHA D1 power Liberty University to kick off their challenging non-league schedule. Other schedule highlights include the addition of a new rivalry trophy series with Liberty 's D2 team, "The Old Wagon Wheel Trophy." According to Coach Healy this further cements what has become one of the best rivalries in ACHA D2 the past three season; "anyone who has had the privilege to watch these two teams play against each other, can feel the intensity coming from the ice but also the respect these two programs have for each other." This will be the second in season rivalry trophy for the Icepack as the Governor's Cup will return to PNC Arena against the Tarheels at a date to be determined.
Other schedule highlights include the first ever series between the Icepack and perennial power, University of Cincinnati. The Bearcats, like NC State, have represented the Southeast in ACHA Nationals two of the past three seasons. The Icepack will also welcome the University of Kentucky in a pair of October games for the first time. Not wanting Kentucky's rival, Louisville to feel left out, the Icepack will host the Cardinals for a pair of games in January. Traditional ACHA power Penn State also makes the trek down south for the First time on 10/29. For the complete schedule and to purchase season tickets click here. Individual game tickets go on sale on August 1st.

Here's a neat addition to the schedule. The Pack will take on UNC Wilmington at Fayetteville's Crown Coliseum (following a Marksmen game) on Sunday, November 7. Pack fans in the area, keep an eye out for details on this one.

Single game tickets are now on sale in addition to season tickets.

The Pack will face Virginia, Georgetown, and George Washington in the Stephen Russell Memorial Tournament (Nov. 12-14 in Charlotte). Definitely three of the better teams in the ACCHL (that aren't already on our schedule), so probably the best case scenario for our tourney lineup. More info on tickets and other events throughout the weekend will be released later.

Another neat update: the Pack will play the regular season finale against Coastal Carolina on Feb. 12 at Fort Bragg. Along with the previously announced Nov. 7 game against UNC Wilmington at Crown Coliseum, that's two great opportunities for fans in the Fayetteville area to see the Icepack this season. Stay tuned for info on both.

In other news, Merrimack will not be making the trip down here (COVID). My understanding is that the team will look for another opponent for Sep. 24, but a weekend off between Liberty D1 and Stevenson is not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, the game against UNC at PNC Arena has been tentatively set for Nov. 22, but this is not yet finalized.

Nine New Players Join The Pack

Nine new players join the Icepack giving the Icepack their deepest roster yet. With their top eleven forwards returning combined with five newcomers the Icepack can expect scoring form each line. On the defensive end and in between the pipes, the Icepack welcome three new defensemen and a freshmen goalie.

Coach Healy on the new Icepack players

Defense and Goalie

Healy on Alex James '25 (Lakeview, MN)/Charlotte Rush): James is a puck moving defensemen who will fit right in jumping into the rush. He has a championship pedigree having won an USPHL National title last year, which will further strengthen our team culture.

Healy on Charles Monteith '25 (Raleigh, NC/Williston Northampton): Charles is a really quick player that can play defense or offense. He protects the puck and sees the ice well. He will give us an option we have not had before; someone that can impact the game at two positions.

Healy on Logan Todd '25 (Raleigh, NC/Raptors): Todd is as smart of a player as we have seen come out of tryouts. He's making the adjustment to defense fulltime. He isn't eligible until second semester which gives him a lot of time to develop into an impact defenseman for us.

Healy on Isaac Tawyer '25 (Danvers, MA/Danvers High School): Isaac is the future of our program in goal. On most teams he would be the number one goalie but for now he is a capable backup who will push our two juniors for time in between the pipes. He is technically sound and moves well. If either guy went down, he would be able to step right in.

Forwards

Healy on Phillip Bailey '25 (Holly Springs, NC/Rogue Warriors): Phil played for a national title last year and was a leader on his team. He is an explosive forward that can finish. He uses his sizes well and will be an impact player when he is eligible second semester.

Healy on Zack Robinson '25 (Apex, NC/Rogue Warriors): Zack is a smart player who finds seems on the ice with his skating and passing. He was one of his team's leaders on Rogue's march to the national title game last year, like James and Bailey he further cements our winning culture. Zack is the younger brother of Alex.

Healy on Emery Oliver '25 (Raleigh NC/Princeton Day School): Emery has really been impressive over the first few weeks of the season. He is a finisher and plays hard in all three zones. He will be an impact player for us. He also makes me feel old having played for a former player of mine at PDS.

Healy on Nick Costantino '24 (Tampa, FL/USPHPL Junior Canes): Nick gives size, grit and determination that will give us a lot of depth in the third and fourth lines. He is not afraid to go into the dirty spaces on the ice.

Healy on Avery Shaffer '23 (Raleigh, NC/UNC-Charlotte): Avery was a late surprise coming into tryout camp. He won an ACCHL title at Charlotte, so he knows what it takes to bring the Admiral's Cup home. He is a power forward who can score and play the body.

Icepack Announce Captains for 2021-2022

Chris Solomon, Riley Johnson and Victor Hugo join Eric Todd as captains for the 2021-2022 season.

First team All-American Chris Solomon '23 (Clayton, NC) will join Super-Senior and returning Captain Eric Todd '22 (Holly Springs, NC) as the Captains for the 2021-2022 season. With Solomon taking on the C and the graduation of Cam Mazikowski, Senior Riley Johnson '22 (Raleigh, NC) and Junior Victor Hugo '23 (Arlington, VA) will assume the alternate captain roles. According to Head Coach Tim Healy, each brings something unique to the table.

Healy on Todd: Eric brings a singular focus and that is winning by doing the little things well. He is the ultimate lead by example guy. He is also taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility from Covid, which means he brings a wealth of leadership experience into the locker room.

Healy on Solomon: When your leading scorer and the program's only first team All-American in its history only cares about team success and nothing about personal stats and accolades, you have a true leader. Chris is key to keeping the team on track and focused.

Healy on Johnson: Riley really emerged as leader in the locker room last year. He took his leadership and compete to a whole other level last season. There might not be anyone harder to play against in the entire ACHA.

Healy on Hugo: Victor has been a leader on the defensive end of the bench from the moment he arrived here, which says a lot because of how experienced the group he played with was. He had some great leadership mentors along the way in Cam Mazikowski, Ian O'Rourke and Devin Halko; he really embodies the best leadership traits of each of them.

Icepack Announce DW Foundation As Charitable Partner

For the 2021-2022 season 10% of all 50/50 proceeds will go directly to the DW Foundation. The DW foundation is run and founded by NC State basketball legend Dereck Whittenburg and lifetime educator Jacqueline Whittenburg. In honor of their the partnership, Dereck Whittenburg will be on hand to drop the ceremonial faceoff for the the 2021-2022 season.

According to the foundation, "The mission of the Dereck Whittenburg foundation is to extend the hands of financial assistance to deserving college students that find themselves facing the hindrance of finance as the barrier to their completion of college degrees. " According to team President, Parker Szarek '22, "It's special to be able to partner with someone who has given so much to the his university and continues to give so much back. There is no one more passionate about NC State than Whitt and it is an honor to contribute to his work."

The Mantra of the foundation; "Dream. Believe. Work. Now Finish!" has been adopted by the Icepack, which includes signage in their locker room as daily reminder of what can happen when you dream big, work hard go after it. Just like Dereck Whittenburg's coach at State, Jim Valvano, dreamed and worked to bring a national title back to NC State, so to does the Icepack. The Icepack look to make this a championship partnership in more ways than one.

Icepack Set To Open the Season With Rivals UNC-Chapel Hill and Liberty

The Icepack open the 2021-2022 campaign with a home and away set against UNC-Chapel Hill Friday at Wake Competition Center and Saturday against Liberty's D1 team at LaHaye Center in Lynchburg, VA. The Icepack and Tar Heels regularly draw the largest crowds in the Carolinas for hockey and Friday should be no different as the Icepack welcome the public to their new home for the first time. Over the last three seasons a fierce rivalry has been cemented with Liberty's D2 team, the Icepack look to extend the rivalry against their D1 team for the second time.

UNC-Chapel Hill-Icepack Preview

Game Preview
UNC-Chapel Hill makes the short trip down I-40 to Wake Competition Center as a confident unit after two wins against non-league foes Denison College (6-2) and Lewis University (4-3) plus a tight lost to East Texas Baptist University (6-5). The Tar Heels are led by junior goalie Will Douthit who took home ACCHL goalie of the year honors in his freshmen campaign. Returners Chris Adamson and Patrick Kramer provide and offensive spark for the Tar Heels. The keys for the Icepack will be to solve Douthit and keep Kramer and Adamson in check, who were explosive last weekend.

Liberty University Flames M1 - Icepack Preview
Current Records: Icepack (0-0) Liberty (0-0)
Last Season: Liberty went 11-5 before falling in the ACHA D1 Frozen Four. They also knocked off NCAA D1 Long Island University.
Last Meeting: 10/23/20 Liberty win 7-2
Location: 9/18 Lahaye Ice Center, Lynchburg, VA 10:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased here.

The Icepack will have to contend with what will likely be their toughest test of the of the season, on the road at LaHaye Ice Center. Liberty boasts key returners at all positions joined by 11 newcomers. Leading the charge on the blueline for the Flames is Captain Colin Baird. Up front the Flames return DJ Shewnke, Kris Bladen and Brett Gammer as a line, while NCAA D3 transfer Kam Ottenbreit will be one to watch. A key for this game for the Icepack will be if the returning chemistry of their returning their top ten forwards can create an advantage against Liberty's newcomer laden lineup.

Big game tonight against unc-CHeat at 7:45pm at the Wake Competition Center. Can buy tickets at the front for $10. I saw someone else post about a week ago that they went to this venue for a hockey game and only about half the crowd was wearing a mask. So they obviously aren't enforcing masks. And, of course, you can simply claim a medical/health exemption, and not wear a mask. I called the WCC a few minutes ago, and a nice lady told me that they do accommodate those with medical exemptions who don't wear a mask.

If the parking lot immediately around the WCC is full, where should people park? In the parking lots around the Gymnastics building across Competition Center Drive from the WCC?

Yes, that's what I would do. I'm not 100% sure what to expect honestly, as this will be the first game here with fans.

Really fun to watch this group hang with a team above their weight class for most of the night. Special teams the biggest difference maker (can't go 0 for 10 on the power play). A number of things to work on from both games this weekend, but the good news is we have 2 weeks to address the issues before Stevenson comes to town. We have an absolutely loaded October slate, so we should get a pretty good idea of how far this team can go over the next 6 weeks.

Marksmen welcome college powerhouse, N.C. State and UNC Wilmington to Crown Coliseum

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Fayetteville Marksmen, proud members of the Southern Professional Hockey League, are excited to announce that they will be hosting a college hockey game at the Crown Coliseum this season.

The N.C. State "Icepack" and the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks will square off against each other after the Marksmen host the Knoxville Ice Bears on Sunday, November 7.

"This will be a fun, new addition to our schedule this year for our fans," said Marksmen executive vice president Alex Wall. "We're excited to bring an event like this to town for the first time and showcase two local teams as we continue to grow the game of hockey here in North Carolina."

Tickets for the Marksmen game on November 7 will be good for the N.C. State and UNCW game to follow. Single-game tickets, good for both games, can be purchased at this link: www.marksmenhockey.com/collegehockey.

N.C. State has become a premier college program, having made the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division II national tournament two of the last three seasons. The Icepack has captured three straight ACCHL conference titles and is looking for another season of continued success.

"Our state is no longer becoming a hockey state," said Marksmen play-by-play voice Drew Blevins, "it is a hockey state. This is a great chance to show that off and I think we'll have a great game." Blevins, an N.C. State alumnus, was the Icepack's play-by-play voice from 2013-2017.

UNC-Wilmington has constantly been a thorn in the side of the Icepack's hope's for statewide dominance. In 2015, the Seahawks ended N.C. State's perfect season with a 3-2 win at home. The 2015 Seahawks advanced to the ACHA Division III national tournament, becoming the first team in North Carolina to ever advance to a national tournament.

This will be the first time that the Marksmen have hosted a college hockey game since the team was founded in 2016.
