Yup., and they used the whiskey that they distilled to barter for other things. Also, the earliest branded things in this country, ie things that had a brand name, were soap and whiskey. Whiskey was also one of the first things to be counterfeited on a large scale, bringing about some of the earliest consumer protection laws in the US.

Picked up a couple of bottles of Traveller Whisky earlier in the week, opened one for a couple of pours last night.

Thought it was pretty good, especially for the price.

Good friend gave me an Elijah Craig 18 year for Christmas. It's one I've enjoyed in the past, being a single barrel product I'm interested to see how this one is compared to ones I've had before.

Yeah, last time I bought one it was like $120, now they are $155. When I unwrapped the box my first reaction was being pissed at him for spending so much on a gift because his wasn't anywhere close to that, lol.

I lucked into one a couple of years ago, but I have a personal rule that I don't open hard to find bottles unless I have two of them...

Me and my brother-in-law sipped on an Elijah Craig 18 year this Christmas. I've only tried a couple but really enjoyed the one we were drinking and hope you do too!

This has been our Go To for a couple months now. Good stuff.

Also, not sure how anyone else feels about this, but Angels Envy might be my least favorite whiskey of all time.

The one that you know I go to, has never had a shortage of Makers, that I've noticed anyway. More important for me, Makers 46 which I've developed a liking for.

I've spent $500 on a bottle a couple of times for some dusty bottles from the early 80s. They were incredible and I don't regret the purchases, but that was back when I was single with half the mortgage I've got now. Hard to justify spending money like that on something that's going to end up in the toilet eventually.
