Yup., and they used the whiskey that they distilled to barter for other things. Also, the earliest branded things in this country, ie things that had a brand name, were soap and whiskey. Whiskey was also one of the first things to be counterfeited on a large scale, bringing about some of the earliest consumer protection laws in the US.

Picked up a couple of bottles of Traveller Whisky earlier in the week, opened one for a couple of pours last night.

Thought it was pretty good, especially for the price.

Good friend gave me an Elijah Craig 18 year for Christmas. It's one I've enjoyed in the past, being a single barrel product I'm interested to see how this one is compared to ones I've had before.

Had a chance to get one of those a year or so back but just didn't want to pay the price. Look forward to hearing your comments.

Yeah, last time I bought one it was like $120, now they are $155. When I unwrapped the box my first reaction was being pissed at him for spending so much on a gift because his wasn't anywhere close to that, lol.

I lucked into one a couple of years ago, but I have a personal rule that I don't open hard to find bottles unless I have two of them...

Me and my brother-in-law sipped on an Elijah Craig 18 year this Christmas. I've only tried a couple but really enjoyed the one we were drinking and hope you do too!

This has been our Go To for a couple months now. Good stuff.

Also, not sure how anyone else feels about this, but Angels Envy might be my least favorite whiskey of all time.

The one that you know I go to, has never had a shortage of Makers, that I've noticed anyway. More important for me, Makers 46 which I've developed a liking for.

I'm cheap like that, too. In fact, I think Savage Rye is the most I'll pay for a bottle.

I've spent $500 on a bottle a couple of times for some dusty bottles from the early 80s. They were incredible and I don't regret the purchases, but that was back when I was single with half the mortgage I've got now. Hard to justify spending money like that on something that's going to end up in the toilet eventually.

Shared some of the EC18 with a buddy last night. Was very good, velvet mouth feel and warm flavors I associate with well aged bourbon. Won't say it's worth the price, but it was delicious to me.

Stopped at Youngsville ABC this morning, they've got four bottles of Savage Rye left if anyone is looking. I picked up a small bottle of Bulleit 95% Rye that I needed for my steak marinade and a bottle of Makers (not 46, though, that's too good to waste on my chicken marinades).

Finally snowing in the Triangle. Got my well cover lamp on so hopefully will have water in the morning. Back inside, made a cocktail of orange juice and Bulleit 95% Rye. Good game tonight, wasn't unhappy to watch Cuse beat the Irish, either.
