Was at the store this morning to refill my gin and got a bottle of Heaven Hill grain to glass. It was crazy expensive but decided to give it a go. Has a pretty high rye content so I wonder I'll like it.

Just opened an Elijah Craig BP B525 last night. Had heard really good things and was rewarded with an exceptional pour. One of the best ECPB I have ever had. If you have the chance and enjoy high proof older juice grab one. Great bottle!

There's been so many EC barrel proof picks in my area in the past few years that I can't remember the last time I bought one of the regular releases. I think I have like six of them open right now, lol.
317 on ignore and counting. Maybe you'll be next!

Finished off the tail end of a 1792 Full Proof over the weekend. 125 Proof and as heavy-bodied as I can ever remember drinking.

Opened an Elijah Craig single barrel for the game last night. Not a barrel proof one, just a 9 year private pick I picked up, can't go too heavy on a Thursday night. It was pretty good.

Our local store had that too and buying a bottle got you entered to win the barrell. Me and my brother sipped on it and I was shocked how good it was! I like EC small batch well enough and I thought the flavor would be similar but this packed even more of a punch.

If anyone finds themselves in Lexington, KY, you should check out Town Branch distillery. It's a small operation but they have several good offerings...some of them you can only get at the distillery.
IF you go that far you should also travel a bit further north and check out Buffalo Trace in Frankfort. Out of all the distilleries that I've been to up there its my favorite. Of course the view at the Wild Turkey distillery is one of the best I've ever seen in person
that's actually where we are going (Buffalo Trace)!
Did the Bourbon Trail a few years back they were all good but IMO Makers and Woodford were the best.

Im visiting Raleigh soon and am hoping to find a bottle. I found a link online to try and see where there stocked but unfortunately it didnt work. Are they readily available to buy at ABC stores?

All I can tell you is they had a pretty good supply at the ABC on US1 in Youngsville.

My work used to take me by that ABC store, they seemed to be very well stocked with a nice variety of bourbon.

Touring Williamsburg, my hotel is next door to the Copper Fox distillery. Picked up their Original Rye and their Dawson's Reserve bourbon. The distiller told me he uniquely toasts his stuff with fruitwood (either apple or peach) then ages in different barrels depending on the blend specified.

They weren't exactly first in line to snag Savage Rye, I had to wait awhile. I hope it really benefits the collective, given what my spouse would say about how much I spend on it, ha ha.

I've heard that from a couple of folks here about that. And yes, I spend more than I should....lol

Might be price moderation at the low and mid shelves but I think the top shelf doesn't change. Let's hope that we can perhaps find the top shelf every now and again.
wilmwolf
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree, and by my observations, the top shelf allocated stuff has become more available of late. I don't think we'll ever get to a point again where you can have Pappy sitting on a shelf at retail (those were the days), but a lot of the stuff that kind of got swept along in the hype has started to be more available. For s while, there were places where things like McKenna BIB were being included in allocated raffles, which is absolutely ridiculous, and now I see it on the shelf most everywhere I go. Hopefully with more production and more availability, the quality returns to some of the top shelf stuff, some of which really dropped off for a while *cough, Blanton's, cough * as they struggled to meet demand.

I walked into a store in Blacksburg VA the other week and was shocked to find Blantons on the shelf in the middle of the afternoon. I've never seen it in an ABC store before so I hope that is a good sign.

Still can't find it around here. Neither of my two local stores have gotten it in a drop to sell to the public in 2025. Bars have been able to get it though obviously.

Last time was able to actually buy a bottle was in a gas station in Kentucky when I was driving out west in March.

Sorta like the real estate market, no? Yet, the expensive stuff can't be made in great volume or it'll come down, too. Particularly if the general markets start to tank, and the middle class keeps shrinking.

Picked up a nice bottle of Buffalo this afternoon. Seems like a good day for a drink later.
