Nothing wrong with dropping down the tailgate. We do the same, nothing is better than sitting on a tailgate on a beautiful evening and eating there. We also have done the same at Snoopy's.FinsUp said:
Ha, I'm unfortunately at the age where hamburgers and hotdogs are rewards for a week of workouts and "sensible diets". (Man I miss the days when I could down a 3piece dinner at Bojangles and still lose weight) When my son is in town and we are out on a Saturday running errands, Char Grill on Hillsborough St is a fun stop. Of course, I get weird looks as I'm the guy who drops the tailgate on the truck, and sits there watching the traffic as I eat.
When he's at school, Cloos has been my go to of late.

Chili cheeseburger, chili dog, and chili fries were my jam at Cloos in college. I could probably do 2 of the 3 nowadays, but would probably feel like I'm dying on the ride home if I tried.
Thanks, I had forgotten about that place until this thread.packgrad said:

Wonders never cease.
We would go after softball games in Garner in the evening or at night and when the church was in high gear, there was music and singing loud enough to hear at the Bell Tower !TheStorm said:
Any of you guys old enough to remember when the holy roller church was still on the side towards downtown next to Char Grill?

Love a Friday payday, steak jr, and cheerwine.
I find the cookout in Oxford to be gross. I find the chargrill in wake forest to be dry, overcooked hamburger patty on an equally dry bun, akin to eating cardboard. Shake Shack beats 'em both.BigBarryWood said:
Chargrill is gross. At least cookout has good milkshakes
That sucks to hear. Our Cook Out around here is really good. Chargrill by campus, is just on a another level.Oldsouljer said:I find the cookout in Oxford to be gross. Not sure your location, but we don't have Shake Shake?Civilized said:Oldsouljer said:I find the cookout in Oxford to be gross. I find the chargrill in wake forest to be dry, overcooked hamburger patty on an equally dry bun, akin to eating cardboard. Shake Shack beats 'em both.BigBarryWood said:

Shake Shake is fantastic, probably my favorite fast-casual burger.
Five Guys is a close second for me.
Both are significantly better than Char-Grill and Cookout to me, especially Char-Grill. If it weren't for nostalgia or convenience I'd never go.
I enjoy Five Guys aside from the insane price they charge.Civilized said:Oldsouljer said:I find the cookout in Oxford to be gross. I find the chargrill in wake forest to be dry, overcooked hamburger patty on an equally dry bun, akin to eating cardboard. Shake Shack beats 'em both.BigBarryWood said:

Agree with you but Five Guys is probably my favorite followed closely by Shake Shack. Can't go wrong with either though.Civilized said:Oldsouljer said:I find the cookout in Oxford to be gross. Yeah they're definitely proud of it but you get a ton of food especially if you order fries.ncsupack1 said:
Five Guys is good, but wow are they high with the cost.
