You assuming the party is monolithic, it's not. Conservative activists know the deal, but the GOP legislators and the RNC have a tight grip on the NCGOP. Too many delegates to the State convention are country club or corporate wing types who helped get RNC stooge Jason Simmons elected State Chair….it was close, though, Brooke McGowan got 48% of the vote which is an indicator that though Whatley may secure the nomination, he's in serious trouble going into the general election.
