If true why was Bush treated poorly? Called dumb, mocked and made fun of…heck even he was called Hitler? How about John McCain when he was running against Obama? Remember him being called a racist? Remember the way Sarah Palin was treated and the names she was called?!

Objectively he came off like a simpleton that partied his way through Yale as a legacy, and rode his dad's coattails into the presidency, also as a legacy. He also seemed captured by culture-warring right, and was absolutely no friend to the civil rights of LGBTQ Americans.
Maybe most important for his legacy, he also got us mired in a war that was based on lies, which unfortunately sounds all too familiar these days.
I'm not sure what media you're watching, but the tone around John McCain's candidacy was absolutely nothing like that of W and Trump.
I'm not quite sure what you want here. Just like Obama said, the media is going to be critical. That's their job. And when there are things to analyze or be critical about they're going to do it, assuming they're doing their jobs well.
Bush has since shown himself to be I think a very decent human being, which as we've seen during Trump's two terms is not a second rate attribute.
So yeah, I think people appreciate W more now than they did. And, in the moment he also seemed like a simple, Nepo baby war hawk. Both are true. There's no reason to walk around with blinders on. There was plenty to objectively criticize.
You can object to Obama's policy, but he comported himself very much the way that American presidents should. He's a highly intelligent, generational orator that earned what he got on his own, and never came off as anything other than very decent and professionally competent.
How do you apportion blame for Trump's historic unpopularity? What percentage of that is due to things we've all actually seen him do and say, versus unreasonable media portrayals of him?
