A lot more than one Senator was involved in passing the 14th Amendment, and whatever his intent may have been, it wasn't written into the text that everyone else voted on. This is fever swamp nonsense, but we have to pretend an argument can be made. Who knows with this Supreme Court, though? They have a long history now of head scratching decisions for "the cause".

Centuries of record keeping has relied on the assumption of birthright citizenship. Get rid of it, and congratulations, birth certificates aren't enough. You're citizenship is now in question. Everyone in the country would need to go through an expensive process of combing government records looking for proof of their ancestors' naturalization, and a new huge bureaucracy would need to be created, along with a new form of "citizenship" id.

And of course the whole "no birthright citizenship starting now" thing is nonsense. That'd require a new amendment. A decision that ditches birthright citizenship but somehow grandfathers everyone in would be as "legislating from the bench" as you can get.

Given your inability to articulate an actual argument ever, I'm gonna assume you're a non-citizen. Gonna need to see some proof. None of that "my grandparents were born here" birthright citizenship crap allowed.

I'm torn on the birthright citizenship. Like most people, I never questioned it, its just what we do.
But in looking into other countries, I think only 34 countries have birthright citizenship, but most of those have a requirement that one or both of the parents be a citizen.
And most of the countries are in the Western Hemisphere which people say is because of colonization. IDK.

I have some Chinese friends who used a surrogate in Macon, GA to have a baby. This baby is 100% Chinese, but because she was born here, she is an American. Has a passport.
I saw her a few months ago while in China. She loves telling everyone she is an American!! Only 6 years old.

This is one of the examples that should be questioned, IMO. I don't blame the parents, they followed the law. But not sure if this was intended when the amendment was added.
