You're not going to like my answer, but the answer is that Lopez IS Mexican(-American). Jokes sound and are interpreted differently if the comedian is making fun of his own group than other groups, especially if white dudes are making fun of racial or ethnic minorities. There's a reason white people can't do blackface as a joke. There's a reason white comedians have different approaches to joking about black and brown people than black and brown comedians do.

Also Lopez didn't stay on it and keep lobbing grenades at Hispanic people and also at blacks, Jews, white people, make misogynistic statements about a woman potential future president, call Trump the anti-Christ, etc. like Hinchcliffe and other speakers did. Part of it was the combined effect of the whole thing just seeming hateful, not funny or inspirational or hopeful or anything close.

Maybe most importantly, Trump has made a political living on castigating immigrants. The context/backdrop is 180 degrees from Dems/Harris' messaging over the years. When immigrants are famously in your political crosshairs and then a comedian repping you a week before the election makes unfunny, mean-spirited, and really inflammatory jokes on stage about the ethnic group the candidate has appeared to have it out for, that's going to be a big problem.
