Our Upside-Down System

Quote:

Jon Cooper points out that American citizens are paying their own government up to $2,000 each for the privilege of being rescued from Afghanistan.

I'm a broken record, I know, but we really are reaching the point at which the federal government's enthusiasm for doing the things it's not supposed to be doing is crowding out its ability to manage the things that it was instituted to do in the first place. Long after the need for COVID "relief" had passed, Washington D.C. persisted in spending billions upon billions of dollars to put cash in voters' hands. Today, Joe Biden canceled 300,000 student loans. Within a few weeks, he is set to ask for another $3.5 trillion in spending. But when a few thousand Americans need evacuating from a disaster zone of Biden's own making, they're asked to open their wallets. It's absurd.
Not to mention embarrassing.

Admittedly by your post you shouldn't have commented. Of course we have to monitor the ME political situations. We didn't have to worry about depending on them for oil. Now because of the idiots pulling the strings of Sleepy Joe we once again will have to rely on them for oil.

Now that we do once again in order to "maintain" our standards of living we will be forced to get involved in nation disputes that we have no business other than financial repercussions. Does that clear things up for you or should I break it down even more?

Right, so both of my answers were correct --- we have, for the most of our adult lives at least, had to deal with problems in the MiddleEast, including the entire 4 years under Trump
And, Biden has screwed up the oil dependency situation.

Pretty good for an uneducated guy, right?

Wow.... Sleepy Joe is getting knee capped by the far left MARXIST/COMMUNIST faction of the SOCIALIST PARTY... and all of you who ***** and moan about me calling you and your party that can go pound sand in the most sincere way. You are what you are. At least a few of you had the gumption to admit it while others cry, whine, flag posts and then deny doing it! Damn laughable. And if you think your opinions of me matter well if they did wouldn't I have changed the way I post. Enjoy the sand pounding comrades!!

So is Biden going to take questions today? Or another clip of him exiting stage left.

Odds it will be an attempt to praise the (little) progress so far? Will he address why the UK and France are going in and retrieving their citizens, but the US hasn't? Will he address why they were having evacuees sign paperwork pledging to pay back the US for air transportation (not clear if this was just non- US citizens). Will he address the rumors about people being hanged by the Taliban?

He will pull out his trusty note card if he does "take questions." They will of course be pre-scripted with the answers entered into the teleprompter or on paper on the podium. He's never taken random questions unless they are shouted and he stumbles through answers as he runs away from the podium.

All of you who complain about President Trump I hope you are happy with the direction this country is going.

And as far as your January 6th BS narrative.... the FBI released information today admitting it was not a coordinated effort. So what are you now lefties? From two days ago or so:

Here's another part of your schtick - you complain about people insulting you and calling you names but you're the biggest offender.

How about you just stop being a bully and then a lot of people would be more willing to engage you more. You do provide good informative posts, but they get lost in the insults and mocking and everything else you add to them.

I've made very informative posts, and I'm funnier than you. Those are two of my trophies.

Just think... a year ago we were energy independent and didn't need to worry about Middle East politics.

What changed?

I'm sure all the lefty comrades on here that pissed and moaned about President Trump and his tweets while claiming not to have voted for Sleepy Joe could shed some light on that question......
I think it's more of the imbedded bureaucracy - as Laura Logan mentioned in her interview that Cary posted earlier than just left/right BS politics, it's 20 years of the same policy makers in the Washington bureaucracy that are just warming over the same policies since 9/11. None of it worked whether a Democrat or Republican was in office as president.

So Biden is just recycling what has been his stance since forever. He had no stomach for the war in Afghanistan. It's clear in the policies that were set forth in the State and Defense Departments. So, he ultimately owns this mess, but that mess is bigger then just this botched withdrawal. Instead of a withdrawal to honor the anniversary of 9/11, it's now going to be a day in which the Taliban celebrate the ultimate defeat of the United States in Afghanistan. You can't botch it any more than this administration has done it.

I think it's laughable to pretend that the US doesn't need to worry about Middle East politics, especially given the the largest terrorist attacks both foreign and domestic originated in the Middle East. There is always a threat that needs great attention by the United States.

As far of energy independence, I agree it is an incredible misstep in both foreign and domestic policy with respect to oil production domestically and giving the power back to OPEC to dictate oil prices. Again, I think this is rooted into the levels of policy bureaucracy in Washington where they are stuck on the status quo. Trump was able to change the domestic policy for his presidency and I think it yielded great results for the country. Unfortunately, he was not able to "drain the swamp" as he had campaigned on and ultimately that is a failure of his 4 years in office.

I'm sure there's a lot of people who didn't vote for Trump that voted for him 4 years earlier because of his vanity and the use of twitter and his at times very poor communication practices. I am not one of them, because I saw the bigger picture and voted for the better candidate, Trump. But you can't deny there are were less educated voters who were affected negatively by some of Trumps scrambled messaging.

It really is an oxymoron isn't it, a country can't technically be energy independent when everything is dependent on energy. But for me, it's producing more raw goods for power production domestically then purchasing them from the international market.

He corrected the Bloomberg reporter... "that's not the question... the question is (as he read from the card in his hand)......." and then he answered his own question. I'll see if I can find it. Twitter is blowing up on his gaffes...

He also said the Afghan National Army was "300 strong..."

They got the most out of the steroid/meds they injected him with to trot him out for a 10-15 minute gaffe fest.

You lefties should be proud. At least Sleepy Joe doesn't tweet. President Trump would take questions from the entire damn room for an hour or more almost daily during Covid.

Any of you that think there is any comparison to President Trump and this clown are dumber than I think you are. And the bar is pretty damn low.

Which is a reasonable definition.

Even in 2019 when we were "energy independent" we bought a ton of foreign oil. Over 9 million barrels.

BBW is using the term "energy independence" like it meant we were unimpacted by OPEC, and met our own oil needs free and clear. Not even close to being the type of "independence" we achieved.

And, Trump also lobbied OPEC to increase production during his term and for a similar reason (to stabilize the global market) so Biden doing the same in the last couple of weeks isn't new behavior by presidents, from either side of the aisle.

And, our oil production (since it adjusted downward with drastically reduced demand) fell through the floor when Covid hit in early 2020. Our huge drop in domestic oil production in 2020 had nothing to do with Biden's presidency.

Hate on Biden or the left all you want to for changing the oil/gas regulatory environment and making it harder to develop future additional oil fields or pipelines from Canada. But that reality has not impacted domestic oil production or pricing so far. That's almost exclusively market-driven.

From February to May, Trump continually asserted that COVID-19 would "go away

on February 25, federal economic policy chief Larry Kudlow declared the COVID-19 containment "pretty close to airtight"

From March 6 to March 12, Trump stated on four occasions that the coronavirus would "go away"

On January 22, Trump was interviewed by the media, in which he acknowledged that the CDC had briefed him on the sole known COVID-19 case in the country. The interviewer asked Trump: "Are there worries about a pandemic at this point?" Trump replied: "No. Not at all. And, we're, we have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It's going to be just fine." He continued to claim that the outbreak was "under control" on January 30, February 23, February 24, and February 25

On February 26, speaking of the number of known infected in the country at the time, Trump predicted "the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zerothat's a pretty good job we've done.

On March 19, Trump told journalist Bob Woodward that he was deliberately downplaying the risk when communicating with the public. "I wanted to always play it down," Trump said. "I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic." The interview was not made public at the time. The quote was made public on September 9, a few days in advance of the scheduled release of Woodward's book

In late April, White House officials delivered upbeat messages about the future of the country. Vice President Mike Pence predicted that "by Memorial Day weekend we will largely have this coronavirus epidemic behind us." White House adviser Jared Kushner predicted that "a lot of the country should be back to normal" by June and "really rocking again" by July. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin predicted that the American economy would "really bounce back" in the months of July, August and September.[7] Meanwhile, Trump was repeating his assertion that the coronavirus "is going to go away"

Defense Secretary Austin contradicts Biden, says Americans beaten by Taliban trying to reach airport | Fox News

Will be interesting to see if this comes up for Psaki and/or if Biden ever takes legit questions. Sounds like Biden added all kinds of qualifiers to his statement, and I'm sure thats how they'll justify the contradiction.

When the media uses soft gloves on questions to the POTUS for 6 months because his messaging is so closely aligned (and pulled for) to their own.....how do you then act professional again and demand accountability for a complete misalignment between the POTUS and SoD on something this critical.
