I'm hitting it with strong flavors trying to get them firing again. Yesterday I had a couple spoonfuls of jalapeño pimento cheese and couldn't taste it at all other than a little heat. Today at lunch I had kimchi tofu soup, kimchi scrambled eggs, and a side of kimchi. Still can't really taste it but got some tang along with the heat today, so I consider that progress.

Both my wife and I were infected in the past couple of weeks. My wife had a slight cough (she said tickle at back of throat feeling) and I had a mild cold/little cough from drainage and a sore throat for one day. Neither of us had fevers or tiredness. We both had no loss of smell/taste and our appetites were fine. For a couple of days we just thought it was allergies, but she decided to test before going into work on a Monday. We just stayed home all week - I in my home office and she worked at the kitchen table. We both worked full days from home every day. She did comment how nice it was to be able to sleep a little later and not have to drive into work. I felt pretty much back to normal on day 6. Neither of us were boosted and as I pointed out to her, we now have nature's booster.

It is interesting how the virus affects so many people in different ways. I have had normal colds much worse than this infection and you hear of other people who are knocked down hard or worse.

You think the lost taste is from a COVID sensory issue or from not being able to breathe through your nose?

I'm coming off it too and days 2, 3, and 4 my sinuses were locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Stuffiness is finally starting to abate today.

Tested positive on Monday and man…it has been a rough week. Feeling a little better today but still no energy. It's crazy how it hits everyone differently.

Had Covid last week. It seems to be spreading around town.

Allergies + cold season have honestly been a bigger pain than Covid was as Covid
did not have me congested at all.

Dry cough was/is a strange feeling- because it's not a natural cough, but the rest was mild.

Only missed a half day of work, never lost appetite. Taste buds felt weird though.

Minor fever for one night. Brief chills/sweats on night one.

Day 3-4 I felt close to normal. Day 5 felt completely fine.

Some of the theories about the loss of smell are related to the virus attacking the nervous system and blocking the signals from the taste and smell receptors. We do know the virus can attack various organs and the brain/nervous system is one of those areas.

I guess I'm the only one around here who hasn't gotten the Wu Flu or any other type of cold lately.

I'm also apparently one of the very few who hasn't bowed the knee to being injected with the miracle vaxx.

Clear correlation. Causation?

Gotta be nervous and not mechanical/chemical, right?

Crazy though that it would consistently and specifically target or impact olfactory nerve pathways. What exactly is happening there?

Whenever I start thinking about this stuff my biggest takeaway honestly is how amazingly complex the human body is, and how crazy it is that it often works so reliably, for so long, despite its complexity.

We think cars are getting old when they're 10-15 years old. Human bodies often work pretty well for 5x-10x that length of time, despite being exponentially more complex.

Not sure. Above my pay grade. I'm not congested now though, and felt a clear "opening" middle of the night Monday night where things cleared up a bit. Still a rough night's sleep Tuesday night with coughing and sneezing. Last night was a good night sleep.

I had a dry cough last Friday night that felt like allergies. Tossed a few back Friday night also. Spent all day Saturday fishing ICW and smoked a couple stogies. Had a couple beers fishing and a couple drinks at dinner that night. Went to bed early as I was very achy and worn out, which I attributed to the day on the water. Had chills that night and a terrible nights sleep. Sunday I felt like I had a cold all day on the drive home. Monday, woke up and felt bad, took test that turned out positive. Went and checked all of my exterior jobs in the triangle then came home and did paper work rest of day. Tuesday, I took off as I felt like ass. Yesterday and today I've been working, but keeping away from the office, or anywhere inside really. Next week I'll go back into office.

Without the scarlet letter, I probably mostly would have handled it the same way I did this time, except I probably would have gone in the office today and tomorrow.

My concern is that my mother rode with me to and from ILM. She hasn't tested positive yet, but hasn't felt well the last couple of days. Her doc has her testing again tomorrow and they have a plan of action if she does test positive. She has MANY conditions that could exacerbate the situation if she does. Fortunately, though, there is a plan in place.

I finally caught it. On the tail end now. Just like a bad cold. Lost the sense of taste. Hope that doesn't last long.

Mine came back partially after a few days, things tasted weird for a few days more. Then fully back in a week or so.
I was fortunate though based on other stories of long lasting

I had a dry cough that lasted for 2 months, but, that is par for the course for me for any cold I catch, other symptoms go away, but a lingering cough

Lol, my morning cherry coke breakfast wasn't as fun there for a few days. I thought about trying something I hate to see if I could tolerate it, but then thought if I slipped up and tasted it, I'd be upset

Not gotten it and have been vaccinated.

Granted, I work from home, so not around people that much. Have hit a Hurricanes game though without catching it, which is apparently something

You can put me (and my wife) on the vaccinated but never caught it yet list - as far as we ever knew anyway - as well (and neither of us are boosted)... I'm scheduled for a surgery next Friday, that I've been waiting 5 months for now at this point, and I'm going to be really pissed if something happens with an exposure between now and then...

That's the first question they've been asking during the recent appointments, pre-op screening...

On another note, why is the government still pushing the boosters when they don't stop the last two variants, which includes the current one?

Lol. Then you should have encouraged me to do so! I would have been down with that right off the damn bat...

Honestly though, being self-employed my insurance policy is almost guaranteed to change to some extent every single year now, and I don't know enough about it, to where I would have ever thought coming back to GSO was ever an option... one provider here recently, told me that BCBSNC really screwed me with what they switched me to this year (even though my premiums went up another $200.00 a month ).

I do believe there is a subset of the population for which boosters make sense to consider. Those who are immunocompromised or who have health conditions that put them at higher risk should consider it, after speaking with their doctor. For everyone else, I personally believe it is an individual choice and people have to make the determination, based on their own assessment of risk and benefit. If they have questions, they should consult their doctor.

The boosters can provide a short-term increase in antibodies and this can help to reduce the chance of infection when exposed. We do know that elderly people and people who are immunocompromised are more at risk of severe illness if they become infected and if increased antibodies can stop or lessen the impact of the infection, it is appropriate to consider a booster.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my wife and I were vaccinated last year (I had J&J and she had Pfizer) and have never boosted (I was waiting on Novavax). We both were infected a couple of weeks ago and our infections were very mild. Of course, we may be exceptions and everyone needs to make a determination that is right for them. Since I have been recently infected, I will not even consider getting boosted for several months.

I'm coming off my first Covid infection. I took the two doses of Moderna. No booster. I had the "36 hours of hell" when I first became sick and got the confirmation it was Covid. Fever, chills, body aches, hacking cough, horrible metallic taste in my mouth and general flu-like conditions.

I took the Paxlovid regime for 5 days, 3 in the morning and 3 at night. It seemed to have helped but I have no basis to make that determination. Today will be 8 days since I tested postive, 10-11 days since my first symptoms showed up.

Several of my close friends have had Covid multiple times and they have been vaccinated, no boosters. They all have said after the first go round it gets less and less invasive. One guy has tested positive 4 times and has had zero symptoms. His job requires that he be tested if anyone in his group tests positive. He gets a week off work with pay and has really upped his golf game.
