Right now, she is just a professor of health policy and commentator/influencer on CNN. I follow her on Twitter and use her posts to keep me in touch with what the lunatics are communicating to a wide audience of people. She is part of the problem and in my opinion, is doing psychological harm to people who listen to her. I rely more on Dr. Gandhi and others to provide me with a more rational approach to how we should be dealing with Covid.

Here's her bio:

"Dr. Leana Wen is an emergency physician, professor of health policy and management at George Washington University, and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. She is also a contributing columnist for The Washington Post, a CNN medical analyst, and author of the critically-acclaimed book on patient advocacy, When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests (St. Martin's Press, 2013) and a new memoir, Lifelines: A Doctor's Journey in the Fight for Public Health (Metropolitan Books, July 2021).

Previously, she served as Baltimore's Health Commissioner, where she led the nation's oldest continuously operating health department in the U.S. to fight the opioid epidemic, treat violence and racism as public health issues, and improve maternal and child health.

Dr. Wen obtained her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and studied health policy at the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. She completed her residency training at Brigham & Women's Hospital & Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School.

A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dr. Wen has received recognition as one of Governing's Public Officials of the Year, Modern Healthcare's Top 50 Physician-Executives, World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders, and TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People.
Dr. Wen lives with her husband and their two young children in Baltimore."

And there are plenty more Marxist-indoctrinated lunatics like her working as principals, administrators, and teachers in the public schools. The state of North Carolina just had to pass a law to require parental consent for covid vaccines -- because in other states they are talking about students being vaccinated without parental consent.

What all parents should do is remove their children from the public schools, and homeschool them or send them to private schools. And not just over this covid insanity -- but for MANY other good reasons as well (ie, the ideology taught in the public schools). If you send your child to a government-run school, you are usually placing them in the clutches of a hardcore Marxist power structure (school boards, teachers unions, etc), intent on brainwashing and harming them.

Tinfoil hat me says this is the beginning of the messaging that will work towards massive reductions in testing in the coming 4-6 weeks. The message that the bad Republican southern states could've just helped themselves by getting vaccinated and wearing masks this summer can't be lost in another wave focused in the do-right Democrat controlled NE this fall. The only way that coming surge is minimized is by reducing the amount of testing. The early message will be that "modelers" suggest the worst is behind us, then the media doctors will start to mention that with the waning infections it may be possible to reduce testing and then we will all wake up one day and wonder how we let the last 19 months happen.

I have been Super Sunshine Squad, but I don't get warm fuzzies about things just tapering off nationwide right into PEAK RESPIRATORY VIRUS season. That just doesn't make rational sense.

I would expect one more large winter wave unless we get a replacement virus (flu comes back or something).

This is my fear. Covid is gonna covid. In big picture politics, covid is this administration's greatest ally (or tool, if you will), and they're gonna try to play it like a Fender strat. It remains their focus despite more pressing acute and subacute economic and foreign policy issues. And, with the ever worsening plays to political extremes, i fear this administration has the right combination of traits i despise to make sure it's "not coming back."

I agree on a Winter wave. I am going to try to find some time to run through some numbers and project the size of the next wave. The model referenced in the tweet (and others I also saw tweeted yesterday) paints a picture that is a bit too positive. At least it does in my opinion. While immunity is causing the end of the Summer wave, I do expect there to be a Winter Wave. The media like to call the Winter Wave a holiday travel wave (bless their hearts), but it will begin well before the holiday travel season begins and will follow a similar course as last year's Winter wave. I also expect a return of the flu this season and it will overlap the Winter Covid wave.

Here's my thinking:

1. Kids are back in school in larger numbers than last year and this will lead to two things:
- Increase incidence of the flu, since kids in years past have been a strong vector for flu propogation.
- A Winter wave of Covid, since they are back in school and will help to keep cases going during a period of time where the indoors and outdoors air becomes less humid (airborne viruses hate humidity) and the air will be cooler, forcing kids indoors more.

2. While vaccinations continue to increase and are spurred along by the vaccine mandates, there are still a significant enough number of unvaccinated people to provide kindling for a Winter wave. We know even vaccinated people can become infected and the unvaccinated kindling will be the thing causes the vaccinated to become infected.

3. Potential for a another variant that takes over for the Delta variant. While the Delta variant has found the going to be tough, a new variant (no, it will not be the Mu variant) could arise that is even more aggressive than the Delta variant. Some virologist do not believe this is as likely to happen, due to how viruses typically mutate and how they mutate, but they have also not fully discounted the possibility.

As many on here know, back as far as April and May, I was predicting the Summer wave to start in early July and the graphs show this happened as predicted. I also said it would end in late August or the early part of September and based on the graph I posted yesterday, this appears to be the case. I am fully expecting a Winter Wave and I expect it to begin in late October, as the weather turns cold across the country. We are already starting to see some early signs of a wave beginning in some of the northern states, where the weather is starting to take a turn.

Assuming there is no new variant that can infect people more easily than the Delta variant, I do expect the Winter Wave for Covid to be significantly lower than last year's wave and I will be making an attempt at projecting the size. I also think the cases of flu will contribute to a significant level of hospitalizations and combined with Covid cases, will put some stress on the healthcare capacity.

I think it will be Delta. There just isn't another dominant variant out there creeping around that would have the time to get here by winter, IMO.

I have said this elsewhere, I don't like calling this the 'Delta Wave', it is more the Southeast US Regional 2021 Summer Wave of SARS-CoV-2 (dominant strain Delta).

The NE Spring Wave 2020, SE/West Summer Wave 2020, and the whole U.S. Winter Wave 20/21 were all original/wild-type COVID. We didn't break it down by variant because it was wild-type/mix. Spring 2021 was Alpha (primarily in the U.S. although other variants were around) and Summer 2021 has been primarily Delta.

But this isn't a 'Delta Wave' as much as it is a 'Summer Wave of SARS-CoV-2 (that happens to be Delta).

Calling it the Delta wave makes people think that once it is over that Delta goes away, but they have already forgotten we went through multiple wild-type waves in 2020.

Absolutely, I do. The Northerners I saw on Twitter over the past few months who were "dancing on the graves" of people in the Southern states are in for a surprise. They avoided a large impact from Delta for a couple of reasons:

1. Weather in the North allows for them to do more outside. This helped, but keep people further apart and outdoors, where we know it is safer.

2. Several Northern states were hit hard by the first wave and that first wave caused the death of a lot of people who's heath condition made them susceptible to severe Covid cases and death. This meant the Summer wave for them found fewer people with these bad health conditions. For the next Winter wave, you will see more people move from marginal health conditions to worse health conditions. For this reason, the Winter wave's timing will be able to find more people who are at risk of having a severe outcome.

People in the North are just as tired of the restrictions as people in the Southern states, so I expect them to act in ways that encourage the spread. Despite what many think, people are not "more" sophisticated than people in the South. They are just as human and as such, will behave just like those in the South.

WRAL called it the Delta wave on their broadcasts yesterday and I just chuckled. They are some really "special" people. My wife says I should not call them stupid so much, but I have no other way to explain their complete incompetence. They made the comment on the six o'clock news last night that their "data trackers" had spent a few hours breaking down the numbers that show the "Delta" wave has peaked. I laughed and told my wife they could have just called me and I could provide them information in a few minutes.

It is nit-picky and gets into semantics and I am certainly guilty of being sloppy with language, but I do think it would set a better framework for future expectations if we agreed to refer to it as 'A COVID wave of the Delta Variant' instead of 'THE Delta Wave'. Or something like that, we can have a review to clean up the language, but we have a huge presentation problem.

Let's see...

She worked for the DoD, the WHO, she advised Congress as a member of Council on Graduate Medical Education by the US Secretary of Health and Human Services, she was Health Commissioner of the City of Baltimore, head of Planned Parenthood. In 2016, she was invited by the White House to join President Obama on a panel discussion, where she spoke about Baltimore's response to the opiod crisis. Elijah Cummings sought her insight on crafting opioid-related legislation.

Oh yeah, and she's on one of the largest TV news networks ("one of," to be fair, it is CNN lol) at least weekly as one of their "expert voices." Other than all of those things, yeah she's just some rando.

#2 - 50-64 - Underlying -"Recommend" - Yes (13-2)
#3 - 18-49 - Underlying "Recommend balance individuals risk and benefit"- Yes (9-6)
#4 - 18-64 - Occupational/Institutional risk "Recommend balance individuals risk and benefit" - LOTS OF DEBATE - No (6-9)

Discussion to add a 5th vote. Due to time. Closing votes for now.

I was talking to someone a few weeks ago and they were excited to know they would be able to get a booster soon. The discussion I had with them was just after the Biden administration was promising "boosters for everyone." They are 62 and have NO underlying health conditions. Based on the latest guidance, it looks like they should not be getting a booster.

Boosters for LTC will be problematic, due to the fact the boosters ONLY apply to those who received the Pfizer vaccine. The boosters for those who originally received Moderna and J&J are not approved and there is no definitive guidance that you can mix a Pfizer booster with a previous Moderna or J&J dose. As such, administering to LTC residents will pose some logistical issues.

Looks like the Muppet, Walensky, is overruling ACIP and putting #4 back in.

So the ACIP meeting was a sham and Walensky was going to do whatever the administration wanted regardless of the recommendations.

At least they put on a good two day show.

I really felt like there was some solid discussion. I thought the doctors on ACIP presented some really good points and were certainly open to future changes with additional data.

I was encouraged after listening to many hours of the 2 day ACIP. Now I know that none of it really matters... it is all about politics. CDC is a Health Propaganda organization.

Interesting juxtaposition from a year ago. While I didn't go into any restaurants last October (in West Yellowstone), I did see a handful of masks in stores and around town. Not many, but noticeable.

Interestingly, the one place all trip where we actually did get a comment from a restaurant last fall was in Cooke City, MT (just outside the NE gate to the park past Lamar Valley). As I mentioned in a post a couple of days ago, more interesting information has been found regarding the lab leak theory for "Covid origin." Yesterday, the article I anticipated has been written and you can read it at the link below. In summary, it goes like this:

1. EcoHealth (lead by Peter Dasak) pitches a research proposal to DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) regarding the prevention of emerging pathogenic threats to the military and society as a whole. The total amount of funding requested was $14+ million ($14,209,245 to be exact). Names involved in the study would be:
  • Dr. Ralph Baric (coronavirus expert and professor/researcher at UNC's Gillings School of Public Health)
  • Dr. Wang of the Duke National University of Singapore (a branch of Duke Medical School located in Singapore)
  • Dr. Shi (researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology) - in past articles she has been referred to at the "bat lady", due to her intense study of coronaviruses involving bats - she also trained with Dr. Baric in the past on how to modify coronaviruses in the past to make them more infectious
  • Dr. Rocke of the USGS National Wildlife Health Center - responsible for vaccine delivery
  • Dr. Unidad of the Palo Alto Research Center - responsible for leading the development of a novel delivery automated aerosolization mechanism for immune boosting molecules

2. One of the members of the WHO organization, responsible for the investigation of the origin of the virus that causes Covid-19 is one of the researchers mentioned in the study. During the time of the investigation, they never mentioned the research proposal.

3. The research proposal included the insertion of a novel furin cleaveage site into the spike protein of a novel coronavirus, to make it more easily transmissible to other species.

The good news is the research proposal was not accepted, but this did not preclude the research from happening and it was happening. You would think it would have been helpful to know back in late-December of 2019 and January 2020 that there had been a research proposal and research being conducted that involved the enhancement of novel coronaviruses by the insertion of novel furin cleaveage sites being conducted in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Yet, those who knew of this work wrote a very public letter, cosigned by lots of leading experts that denounced this concept.

Read the full article here:
Leaked Grant Proposal Details High-risk Coronavirus Research

I also have downloaded a copy of the research proposal (all 75 pages) several days ago and have read large portions of it. It has a lot of very interesting information on coronaviruses, outbreaks of SARS and MERS, and how to make a virus more infectious.

You can download the research proposal at the following link:
