Can't wait to hear this one explained away...
With 92% of adults & 91.2% of everyone 12+ least partially vaccinated, Vermont now has one of the highest infection rates in the US and cases are up 16,700% in the past 4 months

Correct. Cases SHOULD NOT be the metric but we have made them to be.packgrad said:dogplasma said:

I disagree that hospitalizations/ICU occupancy numbers are the only important numbers. . As long as positive tests affect people's ability to work, go to school, travel, mandates, etc, I think positive cases are pretty important too. There is zero doubt the vaccinations do a ****ty job stopping the spread. As do masks. Yet we continue to have mandates based on positive cases.
NC hospitalizations have started to flatten, when you look at the trend for daily hospitalization numbers. I am hopeful it will resume its downward trend, but it is possible we are starting to see the start of the Winter wave. I think by the end of the next week, we will know if it is truly the start of the Winter wave or just a brief interruption to the decline. With the forecasted weather for the next two weeks (below normal temps), it is possible it will be the impulse the virus needs to begin spreading again.Wayland said:dogplasma said:

So we have fully moved on to hospitalizations now and don't worry about cases. Good, glad we are there.
Let's stop reporting cases and keeping kids home from school and only worry about hospitalized cases. Open everything back up. No more mandates of any kind.
For VT, they are approaching peak hospitalizations for them (which again, is still well below basically any other state) and if you were to translate their hospitalizations to NC's population, it is about 750-1000 the last few weeks.
For reference their cases (if NC population) would be in excess of 5000 a day now.

As I mentioned earlier, I think the winter wave is coming. We will see how high it bounces in various regions.
The peak of vaccinations in NC was April, we are now 7 months past that. We have seen that protection against infection wanes greatly after a few months. If not previously infected... if we are due for another wave... a whole lot of fresh targets are now available.
EDIT: 44 members of a fully vaxxed football team test positive. Bro, can you let me know what an average day for you looks like? Curious what a day in the life of a tin foil hat nut job is like.
I do take issue with the Tweet from John Ziegler. It is NOT the football team's fault that 44 tested positive. A team that has 99% of the players and staff vaccinated are not at fault. Additionally, they should NOT be testing asymptomatic vaccinated players. If symptomatic, yes, they should test. Currently, my son's team and most (if not all) of the ACC teams are NOT being tested if they are asymptomatic. We have a endemic virus and people are going to have to get used to people getting infected and being asymptomatic.Wayland said:Daviewolf83 said:NC hospitalizations have started to flatten, when you look at the trend for daily hospitalization numbers. By the way, I believe the Winter wave has already started in NC, since the data I am looking at is about 7 days old, but I should be able to confirm this next week. WRAL did their typical scary story tonight on the 6 o'clock news about cases starting to increase and they trotted out one of their expert doctors to say we should all be concerned. I am amazed, after all of this time, people are still worried about daily fluctuations in cases. The focus should be on hospitalizations and hospital capacity, NOT case counts.
Tell us more about this design, particularly the mechanism of action. I know enough about cellular and molecular biology that what you're saying doesn't follow without a detailed explanation.Werewolf said:

I have to be molecular biologist to share this info......ha! Maybe I should simply quote Fauci to provide some comfort to those already JABBED. I'm sorry you made that mistake and I wish you well. I don't share to attack those that have made the mistake. For those not vaccinated yet; I share relative info that may help them stand firm.Oldsouljer said:Tell us more about this design, particularly the mechanism of action. I have a question about case counts. In Wake Forest they have a free testing center. My son's girlfriend initially tested positive. After a week or so, retested- positive again. A week later, tested again- negative. She needed two consecutive negative tests so went the next day for retest- this time positive. Next day tested again- negative. Following day- negative. How many did she add to the case count?
In the end she theoretically will count only once for a positive test.Steve Williams said:

Do you have historical observations of seeing NCDHHS go back and remove large amounts of cases? Just curious, because I don't follow those things...Wayland said:In the end she theoretically will count only once for a positive test.Steve Williams said:

But realistically short term she will add 3. Eventually NC DHHS claims they try and reconcile these cases and remove duplicates, but again it relies on a matching process and we have no visibility into how that is run and how accurate they are at matching duplicates.
Likewise for all their statistics on vaccinated vs unvaccinated cases. Vaccinated status depends on matching. So if their matching procedure doesn't catch a vaccination record OR the vaccination status is unknown (regardless if someone ACTUALLY is vaccinated) they are considered unvaccinated for NC DHHS tracking of stats.
NC DHHS acknowledges their vax match process needs improvement and on top of that does not match any vaccinations done through DoD, VA, or Indian Health.
To circle back again to the case, it should only count once. But we have to trust that NC DHHS has a robust and effective data reconciliation process.... and I am not sure.

Seeing the tweet the first time, I took it as a shot against vaccinations effectiveness ("Look at all the Vaccinated Vermonters testing positive - why bother with vaccines?").
