To be clear, I'm not advocating for everyone to get both shots at once - just relaying my experience. It was convenient for me to do it that way and I'm not in a real high risk group. Getting your doctor's advice is never a bad idea.

But it is fascinating to see that COVID in India is low but flu has returned to high levels? Will that continue?
Why don't we have a real good idea of what the true infection seroprevalence is in the U.S.?
This is mostly for the shape of the curves not the levels. It is obvious that wave in India must have been massive.
The elephant in the room may be that since the effectiveness of the vaccine wanes in a few months against infection, we may just be kicking the can down the road over and over.
Will COVID inevitably come for everyone? Should we just boost the riskiest of the risky to protect them and let the wave wash over and endemicity come?
I guess we sit and wait for the next regional/seasonal wave to come and see what it does.

There are large portions of the US who are not prepared for the disease to become endemic. They really do believe Covid can be beaten if everyone just follows orders, gets vaccinated, and wear masks/social distance when asked. For people accept the virus becoming endemic, you have to accept cases and spikes in cases at certain times of the year. You also have to accept people will die of Covid. People are not prepared to accept this after over a year and a half of masking, distancing, and shutdowns of schools and businesses.statefan91 said:

As an example, see Montgomery County, Maryland. They are planning to reinstate indoor mask mandates this week (11/3), just days after lifting mandates, due to an increase in cases. Unfortunately, Montgomery County, like many municipalities and states, are using the CDC's antiquated guidelines on transmission that were developed prior to vaccines. They have fully vaccinated 69% of their residents and currently have a testing positivity rate of 1.5% and 51 cases per 100,000 residents for the past seven days. Based on the CDC guidelines, this qualifies as "substantial transmission."
It is time for the CDC to revise their guidelines, recognizing people who are vaccinated will become infected, but most will have minor symptoms and not become a burden to the healthcare system.
I think that vaccination number might be a little low. CDC estimates over 90% of eligible (>12) in MoCo are vaccinated. CDC has over 100k more totally vaccinated in MoCo. I know I had heard discussions of one of the dashboards lowballing there in the past. Per the latest info from DHHS, immunity from previous infection appears to provide better protection from Covid infection than the vaccine. There are many studies showing immunity from previous infection is real and it is lasting. One out of Israel indicated immunity from previous infection was stronger than immunity from vaccination. I am waiting for a study to come out of Johns Hopkins in late November/early December that looks closely at post infection immunity. It could provide even more evidence that post infection immunity is as good as vaccination conveyed immunity.
While I fully support vaccination to get immunity (less risky than going the infection route), people and leaders need to stop discounting the protection of previous infection. Vaccine mandates should end and people who have had Covid previously should be considered to be as protected as someone who is vaccinated. The EU recognizes previous infection equally with vaccination, but the US has ignored immunity from previous infection.

Update. I tested positive Friday. Caught from kids. Friday was the last day I felt decent. I've felt like **** ever since. This is frustrating. Can't see my family or help. Been incredibly stopped up and then the cough came on yesterday. Had the Pfizer vaccine and got last shot in April. Didn't matter. Still got hammered.
Kids have been fine. This does not affect children like it does adults. My wife has so far been fine. She had moderna. It could be luck.
Bottom line… this thing sucks. I don't think for a minute that this wasn't engineered for this purpose. It may have been a leak but it was made.

My company today updated travel policy, effective Nov 15. You must be vaccinated to travel via airplanes going forward. Said it would be administered by our online travel agency, but all I saw was a notification specifying the requirement (maybe that will change on the 15th)

They had some people come by yesterday morning and give booster shots at the company I work at, and a lot of my co-workers got the boosters. Come today, around 30% of the people immediately around me who took the shots are taking the day off because they are not feeling good. I'm overhearing one of my co-workers complaining about how his arm (where the shot was administered) at first was very sore, and now over the course of the day he's feeling worse and his whole body is sore.
