Trying to keep this as apolitical as possible, I don't think it's a secret that many women and minority Americans feel like Trump has done an exceedingly poor job advocating for them.

If you're the coach of a team made up of mostly young African American men, or many/mostly gay women (USWNT) it's easy to see why, as one coach said, it becomes an issue of credibility with your players. It's not simply, "C'mon guys, it will be fun to go to the White House!" or an issue of 'respecting' the office.

When you feel like Trump is an affront to humanist principles, or you coach people who do, it's understandable why you opt not to participate in glad-handing with him.

The article is clear, this is unique to Trump and how divisive he is. Coaches and players don't not want to go because he's a Pub; they don't want to go because he's uniquely divisive.

It's kind've hard to avoid politics on this thread. I'd go see just about any president from my lifetime...except the current one. And I am far from liberal

I get it. But what people need to understand is, America is bigger than a president. Hell, there are 39 security clearances higher than the president and the president is not privy to any information on those levels. America is a short term thought experiment based on what would happen if everyone had a say. Well, this is what has happened so far. Not right or wrong, just fact. Most people can't see past an issue being black or white when in truth, everything is grey. Until the majority becomes okay with grey, there will be turmoil. The white house is an idea based on grey. America is an idea based on grey. All the colors mixed together=grey. Simple, yet complicated and that's ok.

It doesn't matter because if we won the national championship in basketball Kevin Keatts would be elected president.

Your telling me that the president may not have the security clearance to know if there are aliens at area 51? That is the only reason i had through about throwing my hat in the ring as a candidate. I am very disappointed

That surpises me. I expected that you would throw a toddler's tantrum by rolling around on the floor of the Oval Office... screaming about Russian collusion, obstruction of justice, racism, and Trump being a meany pants.

I'm not a Trump fan, although I don't hesitate to say that I'm anti-democrat/socialist (taking from those who earn and giving to those who dont).

Other than hurt-feelings and media propaganda, what policies has the Trump administration pushed that are anti-black or anti-gay? If I'm not mistaken, there aren't any... I'm just a country boy though, could you enlighten me?

The mainstream media has most of the blame when it comes to divisiveness along with a certain number of elected democrats. Trump may not be the sweetest guy in the world, but since he won the election the media and certain democrats have tried to tear him down on a daily basis and never accepted the election results. It's been unrelenting. He hasn't pushed any anti-gay or anti-black policies, just what the media wants to sensationalize. The man has the right to defend himself against lies and liberals think that's wrong. Lastly, just because you are not happy with the election results isn't a reason to tell lies about the person who won the election. I never voted for Obama, but I accepted the fact he won twice and supported him because he was the president!! PERIOD!

President is considered a yankee white security clearance. There are many levels above him that are compartmentalized and are need to know. President doesn't need to know. You can see around 26 levels listed on the foia site or the cia site. Let's also say, I personally know bc, well...

Just like in the west back in the 1800's I'm always concerned about which tribe I'm in....and I always look to see which feather and face paint another human has on. I immediately defend those in my tribe and attack others that are not.

I'm also a skilled yachtsman and not matter how much cargo or the # of passengers....even when struggling to stay afloat I look for as man passengers that I can find regardless of whether they can navigate or assist on the boat. I simply need more passengers that wish to call me captain..so I can stay in control of the boat.

You can stop talking whenever about 'democrats this or that' and 'liberals this or that'. This isn't about political parties. Coaches in the article were clear they would have taken their teams to see Bush, Clinton, Obama, whoever. Coaches DID routinely do this before Trump, it was a fun longstanding sports tradition for presidents of both parties and for teams of all types.

Just not with Trump as president. This is unique to him.

*snort* The president lies about a dozen times whenever he gives a speech. Him not being "the sweetest guy" may be the understatement of the year. He's the most divisive president in modern history. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a loonnng time. Eventually you have to call a spade a spade

Francis, I'm not trying to flame here, do you honestly believe Donald Trump doesn't lie on a constant basis?

I've been very curious how a well documented fact that he lies or misleads at a record level is not believed or factored in by people who support him (or the office in general regardless of who's there).
baxterC
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the answer here is you let the players decide. If the person in office is so offensive to them they would rather not visit then that's their call.

For me I've thought about this a bit, I'd go to see if I could ask him a question about something I care about. This is probably the one president you can actually convince to do something by talking to him based on his, shall we say, approach.

List the lies if they are so well documented. List the fibs, no BS from MSNBC, CNN, etc..

That's actually a great middle ground to me.

If you're invited to the White House to meet with him, you've got an incredibly novel opportunity. Not to argue with him or challenge him inappropriately, but to just engage briefly and mention to him something you care about.
