Yes, I can't see Boo rocking the boat or coming up with a creative hire.
If NC State doesn’t announce Hart by early next week

Don’t be surprised if Alex Sogard joins their staff in some capacity. Whether it’s the Head Coach or an Assistant Role…

not idea who this is legit, but i am assuming this is the "chatter". Sogard as pitching coach/AHC would be a homerunIf NC State doesn’t announce Hart by early next week

I'd take Godwin over Hart all day. Not even a close choice for me.
Godwin is a great guy. State fans would love him once they were able to disassociate him with ECU.

NC State has had a very successful program for the last 20 years. Hart is a HUGE reason for that. He pretty much runs things day to day. There's no reason not to at least let him try and see if he can handle the other parts of the program now.
If it doesn't work, there are going to be lots of great options available. That's no guarantee, though. South Carolina probably wishes they'd kept Holbrook at this point.
South Carolina Gamecocks (Southeastern Conference) (20132017)
2013 South Carolina 4320 1712 2nd (East) NCAA Super Regional
2014 South Carolina 4418 1812 2nd (East) NCAA Regional
2015 South Carolina 3225 1317 5th (East)
2016 South Carolina 4618 209 1st (East) NCAA Super Regional
2017 South Carolina 3525 1317 5th (East)
Chad is a great dude and a very good teacher of ball. I learned a lot from him working unc camps back in the day.
Hart took over 'crootin in 2010 (IIRC) and started bringing in dudes year in and year out pretty much immediately.

This is exactly what I was talking about. SC moved Holbrook into lead role and they won 40+ games 3 out of his 5 years, went to the NCAA 3 out of his 5 years and won 30+ games in the other two years. They fired him after that 2017 season and have been at or below.500 four times in the 9 years since. And only over .500 in SEC play 3 times in those 9 years.
Sometimes the guy that helped build it is a better option than the shiny new toy.

100%
Chad was able to keep Jerry Myers and Sammy Esposito from Ray's last staff and kept winning and kept recruiting the state well.
They've now stopped winning and lost the state. What's even worse, is Clemson ain't exactly recruiting the state very well either.

I was talking to someone about this recently, and I haven't bothered to look, but has Coastal started to recruit SC? They didn't really in the past. Or has SC just not produced as much talent lately?
Another factor is Holbrook still had good NC connections and got some elite players from NC regularly. Had Cory Seager played in college it was going to be at SC becuase of Holbrook.
