Nice work fellas, way to start off the series!

Tough call on what to do with Nance - probably your best pitcher and he has starter stuff and makeup.
If it's not broke don't fix it.
Retweet.
Btw, I'm thinking Andrews has a chance to be extremely effective against this lineup tomorrow.
Only time I see Nance even maybe starting is ACC tourney, first weekend of regionals or CWS. But it's also Avent who I doubt even toys with that idea.
Calculus changes a bit when you have to win 3 vs winning 2 in my eyes. Includes Smith or Consiglio figuring it out. Preferably both lol

UVA got to Nance pretty good, but that's 19(!) scoreless innings since. All without allowing a free pass, striking out 19, and ceding just 5 hits.

Who gets the win in a run rule game when neither pitcher goes 5 innings? Fritton? Nance? Fraasman?

Damn didn't realize no walks.
Yet you were wondering why they didn't go to Shaffner. Shaffner has been fantastic lately too, but Nance has been other worldly and it continued.Alex Gee said:

Nance will get the win. Only the starter has to go 5 innings.griff17matt said:

Something a little overshadowed by frassman's ridiculous night. Sosa had a great night. If he rounds into the same form as late season last year. Adds so much more to this lineup

Agreed, he was seeing the ball really well. Staff has stuck with both of those guys during their slumps, Fraasman really starting to pay off and Sosa coming around.
Personally I would rather burn one and save the other. You use both then they both might be less effective in the second outing of the weekend. Nance was dealing and there was no way he was coming out when he was in that groove.Jtilley said:DrummerboyWolf said:Yet you were wondering why they didn't go to Shaffner. I don't really get why they don't use both instead of burning a good arm for the rest of the weekend but it works.

It's been unbelievable. Dudan and smith were awesome last year but this is different with the control and the length. I know some want him to start but he's a damn weapon out of the pen and I wouldn't touch a thing. This is closer to what Evan Justice was doing when we made the run and beat Arkansas and made the CWS. He's been unreal. Hope he and the rest of the guys can keep it up! We came out ready to roll, aggressive on the base paths and fired up and it was honestly like Clemson just couldn't get to our level. Love to see it!
That was only a box you wanted checked. If you had seen him pitch the last 3 or 4 times, then you knew he was not going to be flustered. He is calm, cool, and collected when he is on the mound. When he gets knocked around next time, he will still be calm, cool, and collected. He trusts his stuff and rightly so. His control is unbelievable with the constant velocity he has. He is going to be around the plate most outings.Alex Gee said:DrummerboyWolf said:Yet you were wondering why they didn't go to Shaffner. The box Nance hadn't checked up to this point was entering into trouble and striking his way out of it against a good team. Checked that box tonight. But that's why I wanted to go Shaffner

I'm fine with it, just wish you had the option of having your best arm in a rubber match for the series on sat/sun.
But what if you don't bring him in and we lose? Then you might be saving your best arm for a meaningless 3rd game. First game is most important in winning the series. Could we still lose it? Absolutely, but Nance put us in a good position for the weekend.Jtilley said:DrummerboyWolf said:Personally I would rather burn one and save the other. They were saying either last week or two weeks ago, that Avent and Hart sat down with him and changed some things with Sosa's approach and he has been on fire since. Don't know if he was taking too much or what happened, but the talk has definitely helped him.PossumJenkins said:

Oh I know you watch, but again he has such a great demeanor and even better stuff. Right now, I would say he is our best pitcher and it's not close.Alex Gee said:DrummerboyWolf said:That was only a box you wanted checked. I haven't missed many pitches the last 6 years btw
The 4th time out is why I wanted to see that box checked.
We will just have to agree to disagree. You are right, the rest of the guys will have to pick up the slack. Nance did his job.Jtilley said:DrummerboyWolf said:But what if you don't bring him in and we lose? Then you might be saving your best arm for a meaningless 3 game. I'm saying use him but in shorter stints. Throw him two innings and 30-40 pitches game one and trust the other guys in your pen to get six outs.
You're relying on those guys the next two days anyways.
